Genèse 4
1 Or Adam connut Eve sa femme, laquelle conçut, et enfanta Caïn; et elle dit: J'ai acquis un homme de par l'Eternel.
Forsothe Adam knewe Eue his wijf, which conseyuede, and childide Cayn, and seide, Y haue gete a man bi God.
2 Elle enfanta encore Abel son frère; et Abel fut berger, et Caïn laboureur.
And efte sche childide his brother Abel. Forsothe Abel was a kepere of scheep, and Cayn was an erthe tilyere.
3 Or il arriva, au bout de quelque temps, que Caïn offrit à l'Eternel une oblation des fruits de la terre;
Sotheli it was don after many daies, that Cayn offride yiftis to the Lord of the fruytis of erthe;
4 Et qu'Abel aussi offrit des premiers-nés de son troupeau, et de leur graisse; et l'Eternel eut égard à Abel, et à son oblation.
and Abel offride of the first gendrid of his floc, and of the fatnesse of tho. And the Lord bihelde to Abel and to the yiftis of hym;
5 Mais il n'eut point d'égard à Caïn, ni à son oblation; et Caïn fut fort irrité, et son visage fut abattu.
sotheli he bihelde not to Cayn and to hise yiftis. And Cayn was wrooth greetli, and his cheer felde doun.
6 Et l'Eternel dit à Caïn: Pourquoi es-tu irrité? et pourquoi ton visage est-il abattu?
And the Lord seide to hym, Whi art thou wrooth, and whi felde doun thi face?
7 Si tu fais bien, ne sera-t-il pas reçu? mais si tu ne fais pas bien, le péché est à la porte; or ses désirs se [rapportent] à toi, et tu as Seigneurie sur lui.
Whether not if thou schalt do wel, thou schalt resseyue; but if thou doist yuele, thi synne schal be present anoon in the yatis? but the desir therof schal be vndur thee, and thou schalt be lord therof.
8 Or Caïn parla avec Abel son frère, et comme ils étaient aux champs, Caïn s'éleva contre Abel son frère, et le tua.
And Cayn seide to Abel his brother, Go we out. And whanne thei weren in the feeld, Cayn roos ayens his brother Abel, and killide him.
9 Et l'Eternel dit à Caïn: Où est Abel ton frère? Et il lui répondit: Je ne sais, suis-je le gardien de mon frère, moi?
And the Lord seide to Cayn, Where is Abel thi brother? Which answerde, Y woot not; whether Y am the kepere of my brothir?
10 Et Dieu dit: Qu'as-tu fait? La voix du sang de ton frère crie de la terre à moi.
And God seide to Cayn, What hast thou do? the vois of the blood of thi brother crieth to me fro erthe.
11 Maintenant donc tu [seras] maudit, [même] de la part de la terre, qui a ouvert sa bouche pour recevoir de ta main le sang de ton frère.
Now therfor thou schalt be cursid on erthe, that openyde his mouth, and resseyuede of thin hond the blood of thi brothir.
12 Quand tu laboureras la terre, elle ne te rendra plus son fruit, et tu seras vagabond et fugitif sur la terre.
Whanne thou schalt worche the erthe, it schal not yyue his fruytis to thee; thou schalt be vnstable of dwellyng and fleynge aboute on erthe in alle the daies of thi lijf.
13 Et Caïn dit à l'Eternel: Ma peine est plus grande que je ne puis porter.
And Cayn seide to the Lord, My wickidnesse is more than that Y disserue foryyuenesse; lo!
14 Voici, tu m'as chassé aujourd'hui de cette terre-ci, et je serai caché de devant ta face, et serai vagabond et fugitif sur la terre, et il arrivera que quiconque me trouvera, me tuera.
to dai thou castist me out fro the face of the erthe; and Y schal be hid fro thi face, and Y schal be vnstable of dwellyng and fleynge aboute in erthe; therfore ech man that schal fynde me schal slee me.
15 Et l'Eternel lui dit: C'est pourquoi quiconque tuera Caïn sera puni sept fois davantage. Ainsi l'Eternel mit une marque sur Caïn, afin que quiconque le trouverait, ne le tuât point.
And the Lord seide to hym, It schal not be don so, but ech man that schal slee Cayn shal be punyschid seuenfold. And the Lord settide a signe in Cayn, that ech man that schulde fynde hym schulde not slee hym.
16 Alors Caïn sortit de devant la face de l'Eternel, et habita au pays de Nod, vers l'Orient d'Héden.
And Cayn yede out fro the face of the Lord, and dwellide fleynge aboute in erthe, at the eest coost of Eden.
17 Puis Caïn connut sa femme, qui conçut et enfanta Hénoc; et il bâtit une ville, et appela la ville Hénoc, du nom de son fils.
Forsothe Cayn knewe his wiif, which conseyuede, and childide Enoth; and Cayn bildide a citee, and clepide the name therof of the name of hise sone Enoth.
18 Puis Hirad naquit à Hénoc, et Hirad engendra Méhujaël, et Méhujaël engendra Méthusaël, et Méthusaël engendra Lémec.
Forsothe Enoth gendride Irad, and Irad gendride Manyael, and Manyael gendride Matusael, and Matusael gendride Lameth;
19 Et Lémec prit deux femmes; le nom de l'une était Hada, et le nom de l'autre, Tsilla.
that took twei wyues, the name to o wijf was Ada, and the name to the tother was Sella.
20 Et Hada enfanta Jabal, qui fut père de ceux qui demeurent dans les tentes, et des pasteurs.
And Ada gendride Jabel, that was the fadir of dwellers in tentis and of shepherdis;
21 Et le nom de son frère fut Jubal, qui fut père de tous ceux qui touchent le violon et les orgues.
and the name of his brother was Tubal, he was the fadir of syngeris in harpe and orgun.
22 Et Tsilla aussi enfanta Tubal-Caïn, qui fut forgeur de toute sorte d'instruments d'airain et de fer; et la sœur de Tubal-Caïn fut Nahama.
And Sella gendride Tubalcayn, that was an hamerbetere, and smyyt on alle werkis of bras and of yrun; forsothe the sistir of Tubalcayn was Neoma.
23 Et Lémec dit à Hada et à Tsilla ses femmes: Femmes de Lémec, entendez ma voix, écoutez ma parole; je tuerai un homme, moi étant blessé, même un jeune homme, moi étant meurtri.
And Lameth seide to his wyues Ada and Sella, Ye wyues of Lameth, here my vois, and herkne my word; for Y haue slayn a man bi my wounde, and a yong wexynge man bi my `violent betyng;
24 Car [si] Caïn est vengé sept fois davantage, Lémec le sera soixante-dix sept fois.
veniaunce schal be youun seuenfold of Cayn, forsothe of Lameth seuentisithis seuensithis.
25 Et Adam connut encore sa femme, qui enfanta un fils, et il appela son nom Seth, car Dieu m'a, [dit-il], donné un autre fils au lieu d'Abel, que Caïn a tué.
Also yit Adam knewe his wijf, and sche childide a sone, and clepide his name Seth, and seide, God hath put to me another seed for Abel, whom Cayn killide.
26 Il naquit aussi un fils à Seth, et il l'appela Enos. Alors on commença d'appeler du nom de l'Eternel.
But also a sone was borun to Seth, which sone he clepide Enos; this Enos bigan to clepe inwardli the name of the Lord.
