Genèse 28
1 Isaac donc appela Jacob, et le bénit, et lui commanda, en disant: Tu ne prendras point de femme d'entre les filles de Canaan.
Than Isaac called Iacob his sonne and blessed him ad charged him and sayde vnto him: se thou take not a wife of the doughters of Canaan
2 Lève-toi; va en Paddan-Aram, à la maison de Béthuel, père de ta mère, et prends-toi de là une femme des filles de Laban, frère de ta mère.
but aryse ad gett the to Mesopotamia to the house of Bethuel thy mothers father: and there take the a wife of the doughters of Laban thi mothers brother.
3 Et le [Dieu] Fort, Tout-Puissant te bénisse, et te fasse croître et multiplier, afin que tu deviennes une assemblée de peuples.
And God allmightie blesse the increase the and multiplie the that thou mayst be a nombre of people
4 Et qu'il te donne la bénédiction d'Abraham, à toi et à la postérité avec toi, afin que tu obtiennes en héritage le pays où tu as été étranger, lequel Dieu a donné à Abraham.
and geue the the blessynge of Abraham: both to the and to thy seed with the that thou mayst possesse the lade (wherein thou art a strangere) which God gaue vnto Abraham.
5 Isaac donc fit partir Jacob, qui s'en alla en Paddan-Aram, vers Laban, fils de Béthuel Syrien, frère de Rébecca, mère de Jacob et d'Esaü.
Thus Isaac sent forth Iacob to goo to Mesopotamia vnto Laban sonne of Bethuel the Sirien and brother to Rebecca Iacobs and Esaus mother.
6 Et Esaü vit qu'Isaac avait béni Jacob, et qu'il l'avait envoyé en Paddan-Aram, afin qu'il prît femme de ce pays-là pour lui, et qu'il lui avait commandé, quand il le bénissait, disant: Ne prends point de femme d'entre les filles de Canaan;
When Esau sawe that Isaac had blessed Iacob and sent him to Mesopotamia to fett him a wife thence and that as he blessed him he gaue him a charge saynge: se thou take not a wife of the doughters of Canaan:
7 Et que Jacob avait obéi à son père et à sa mère, et s'en était allé en Paddan-Aram.
and that Iacob had obeyed his father and mother and was gone vnto Mesopotamia:
8 C'est pourquoi Esaü voyant que les filles de Canaan déplaisaient à Isaac son père,
and seynge also that the doughters of Canaan pleased not Isaac his father:
9 S'en alla vers Ismaël, et prit pour femme, outre ses [autres] femmes, Mahalath, fille d'Ismaël, fils d'Abraham, sœur de Nébajoth.
Then went he vnto Ismael and toke vnto the wiues which he had Mahala the doughter of Ismael Abrahams sonne the sister of Nabaioth to be his wife.
10 Jacob donc partit de Béer-Sébah, et s'en alla à Caran.
Iacob departed from Berseba and went toward Haran
11 Et il se rencontra en un lieu où il passa la nuit, parce que le soleil était couché. Il prit donc des pierres de ce lieu-là, et en fit son chevet, et s'endormit en ce même lieu.
and came vnto a place and taried there all nyghte because the sonne was downe. And toke a stone of the place and put it vnder his heade and layde him downe in the same place to slepe.
12 Et il songea; et voici, une échelle dressée sur la terre, dont le bout touchait jusqu'aux cieux; et voici, les Anges de Dieu montaient et descendaient par cette échelle.
And he dreamed: and beholde there stode a ladder apon the erth and the topp of it reached vpp to heaue. And se the angells of God went vp and downe apon it
13 Et voici, l'Eternel se tenait sur l'échelle, et il lui dit: Je suis l'Eternel, le Dieu d'Abraham ton père, et le Dieu d'Isaac; je te donnerai et à ta postérité, la terre sur laquelle tu dors.
yee ad the LORde stode apon it and sayde. I am the LORde God of Abraham thi father and the God of Isaac: The londe which thou slepest apon will I geue the and thy seed.
14 Et ta postérité sera comme la poussière de la terre, et tu t'étendras à l'Occident, à l'Orient, au Septentrion, et au Midi, et toutes les familles de la terre seront bénies en toi et en ta semence.
And thy seed shalbe as the dust of the erth: And thou shalt spreade abrode: west east north and south. And thorow the and thy seed shall all the kynreddes of the erth be blessed.
15 Et voici, je suis avec toi; et je te garderai partout où tu iras; et je te ramènerai en ce pays; car je ne t'abandonnerai point que je n'aie fait ce que je t'ai dit.
And se I am with the and wylbe thy keper in all places whother thou goost and wyll brynge ye agayne in to this lande: Nether will I leaue the vntill I haue made good all that I haue promysed the.
16 Et quand Jacob fut réveillé de son sommeil, il dit: Certes! l'Eternel est en ce lieu-ci, et je n'en savais rien.
When Iacob was awaked out of his slepe he sayde: surely the LORde is in this place ad I was not aware.
17 Et il eut peur, et dit: Que ce lieu-ci est effrayant! C'est ici la maison de Dieu, et c'est ici la porte des cieux.
And he was afrayde and sayde how fearfull is this place? it is none other but euen the house of God and the gate of heaue.
18 Et Jacob se leva de bon matin, et prit la pierre dont il avait fait son chevet, et la dressa pour monument; et versa de l'huile sur son sommet.
And Iacob stode vp early in the mornynge and toke the stone that he had layde vnder his heade and pitched it vp an ende and poured oyle on the topp of it.
19 Et il appela le nom de ce lieu-là, Béthel: mais auparavant la ville s'appelait Luz.
And he called the name of the place Bethell for in dede the name of the citie was called Lus before tyme.
20 Et Jacob fit un vœu, en disant: Si Dieu est avec moi, et s'il me garde dans le voyage que je fais, s'il me donne du pain à manger, et des habits pour me vêtir,
And Iacob vowed a vowe saynge: Yf God will be with me and wyll kepe me in this iourney which I goo and will geue me bread to eate and cloothes to put on
21 Et si je retourne en paix à la maison de mon père, certainement l'Eternel me sera Dieu.
so that I come agayne vnto my fathers house in saftie: then shall the LORde be my God
22 Et cette pierre que j'ai dressée pour monument, sera la maison de Dieu; et de tout ce que tu m'auras donné, je t'en donnerai entièrement la dîme.
and this stone which I haue sett vp an ende shalbe godes house And of all that thou shalt geue me will I geue the tenth vnto the.
