Ézéchiel 14

1 Or quelques-uns des Anciens d'Israël vinrent vers moi, et s'assirent devant moi.

Then came there unto me certain men of the elders of Israel, and sat down before me.

2 Et la parole de l'Eternel me fut [adressée], en disant:

And the word of the Lord came unto me, saying,

3 Fils d'homme, ces gens-ci ont posé leurs idoles dans leurs cœurs, et ont mis devant leur face l'achoppement de leur iniquité; serais-je recherché d'eux sérieusement?

Son of man, these men have set up their idols in their heart, and the stumbling-block of their iniquity have they placed before their faces: shall I in any wise let myself be inquired of by them?

4 C'est pourquoi parle-leur, et leur dis: ainsi a dit le Seigneur l'Eternel. Quiconque de la maison d'Israël aura posé ses idoles dans son cœur, et aura mis devant sa face l'achoppement de son iniquité, et viendra vers le Prophète, Je [suis] l'Eternel, je lui ai répondu [tout] ce que je lui veux répondre, [puisqu'il] vient avec la multitude de ses idoles.

Therefore speak with them and say unto them, Thus hath said the Lord Eternal, Whatever man it be of the house of Israel that setteth up his idols in his heart, and layeth the stumbling-block of his iniquity before his face, and cometh to the prophet: I the Lord will answer him, although he cometh with the multitude of his idols;

5 Afin que je prenne la maison d'Israël par leur propre cœur, car eux tous se sont éloignés de moi par leurs idoles.

In order that I may grasp the house of Israel by their heart, those who are separated from me through all their idols.

6 C'est pourquoi dis à la maison d'Israël: ainsi a dit le Seigneur l'Eternel, convertissez-vous, et faites qu'on se retire de vos idoles, et détournez-vous de toutes vos abominations.

Therefore say unto the house of Israel, Thus hath said the Lord Eternal, Return, and cause [your heart] to turn away from your idols: and from all your abominations turn away your faces.

7 Car quiconque de la maison d'Israël, ou des étrangers qui séjournent en Israël, se sera séparé de moi, et aura posé ses idoles dans son cœur, et mis l'achoppement de son iniquité devant sa face, s'il vient vers le Prophète pour m'interroger par lui, je suis l'Eternel, on lui a répondu tout ce qu'on a à lui répondre de ma part.

For whatever man it be of the house of Israel, or of the stranger that sojourneth in Israel, that separateth himself from me, and setteth up his idols in his heart, and layeth the stumbling-block of his iniquity before his face, and then cometh to the prophet to inquire through him of me: I the Lord will answer him through my word;

8 Et je me tournerai contre cet homme, et je le ferai servir de signe, et de jouet, et je le retrancherai du milieu de mon peuple; et vous saurez que je [suis] l'Eternel.

And I will set my face against that man, and will make him an astonishment for a sign and for proverbs, and I will cut him off from the midst of my people; and ye shall know that I am the Lord.

9 Et s'il arrive que le Prophète soit séduit, et qu'il profère quelque parole, moi l'Eternel j'aurai séduit ce Prophète-là, et j'étendrai ma main sur lui, et je l'exterminerai du milieu de mon peuple d'Israël;

And when the prophet suffereth himself to be deceived, and he speaketh a word: I the Lord have suffered that prophet to be deceived: and I will stretch out my hand against him, and will destroy him from the midst of my people Israel.

10 Et ils porteront la peine de leur iniquité; la peine de l'iniquité du Prophète sera toute telle que la peine de celui qui l'aura interrogé;

And they shall bear their guilt: as the guilt of the inquirer is, so shall the guilt of the prophet be;

11 Afin que la maison d'Israël ne s'éloigne plus de moi, et qu'ils ne se souillent plus par tous leurs crimes; alors ils seront mon peuple, et je serai leur Dieu, dit le Seigneur l'Eternel.

In order that the house of Israel may go no more astray by not following me, and not pollute themselves any more with all their transgressions; but that they may become unto me a people, and I may be unto them a God, saith the Lord Eternal.

12 Puis la parole de l'Eternel me fut [adressée], en disant:

And the word of the Lord came unto me, saying,

13 Fils d'homme, lorsqu'un pays aura péché contre moi, en commettant une infidélité, et que j'aurai étendu ma main contre lui, et que je lui aurai rompu le bâton du pain, et envoyé la famine, et retranché du milieu de lui tant les hommes que les bêtes;

Son of man, if a land should sin against me by trespassing grievously, and I stretch out my hand against it, and break unto it the staff of bread, and send out famine against it, and cut off from it man and beast;

14 Et que ces trois hommes, Noé, Daniel et Job, y seraient, ils délivreraient leurs âmes par leur justice, dit le Seigneur l'Eternel.

And if there be these three men, Noah, Daniel, and Job, in the midst of it: these through their righteousness should save but their own soul; saith the Lord Eternal.

15 Si je fais passer les mauvaises bêtes par ce pays-là, et qu'elles le désolent, tellement que ce [ne] soit [que] désolation, sans qu'il y ait personne qui [y] passe à cause des bêtes;

If I cause wild beasts to pass through the land, and they depopulate it, and it becometh desolate, without any one to pass through because of the beasts:

16 [Et] que ces trois hommes-là s'y trouvent; je suis vivant, dit le Seigneur l'Eternel, qu'ils ne délivreront ni fils ni filles, eux seulement seront délivrés, et le pays [ne] sera [que] désolation.

These three men [if they were] in it, as I live, saith the Lord Eternal, should not save either sons or daughters: they only should be saved, but the land should be made desolate.

17 Ou si je fais venir l'épée sur ce pays-là, et si je dis: que l'épée passe par le pays, et qu'elle en retranche les hommes et les bêtes;

Or, if I should bring a sword over that land, and say, The sword shall pass through the land, and I cut off from it man and beast;

18 Si ces trois hommes-là se trouvent au milieu du pays, je suis vivant, dit le Seigneur l'Eternel, qu'ils ne délivreront ni fils, ni filles; mais eux seulement seront délivrés.

And if these three men should be in it: as I live, saith the Lord Eternal, they should not save either sons or daughters, but they alone should be saved.

19 Ou [si] j'envoie la mortalité sur ce pays-là, et que je répande ma colère contre lui, jusques à faire ruisseler le sang, tellement que je retranche du milieu de lui les hommes et les bêtes;

Or, if I should send out the pestilence against that land, and pour out my fury over it in blood, to cut off from it man and beast;

20 Et que Noé, Daniel et Job s'y trouvent, je [suis] vivant, dit le Seigneur l'Eternel, qu'ils ne délivreront ni fils ni filles; [mais] ils délivreront leurs âmes par leur justice.

And if Noah, Daniel, and Job, should be in the midst of it: as I live, saith the Lord Eternal, they should not save either son or daughter; they through their righteousness should save their own soul.

21 Car ainsi a dit le Seigneur l'Eternel: combien plus quand j'aurai envoyé mes quatre plaies mortelles, l'épée, et la famine, et les bêtes nuisibles, et la mortalité, contre Jérusalem, pour en retrancher les hommes et les bêtes?

For thus hath said the Lord Eternal, Although I send my four dreadful means of punishment over Jerusalem, the sword, and the famine, and the wild beasts, and the pestilence, to cut off from it man and beast:

22 Et toutefois, voici, quelques réchappés y demeureront de reste, [savoir] ceux qu'on s'en va faire sortir, et fils et filles; voici, ils viennent vers vous, et vous verrez leur train [de vie], et leurs actions, et vous serez satisfaits du mal que j'aurai fait venir contre Jérusalem, et de tout ce que j'aurai fait venir sur elle.

Still, behold, there are left therein some that escape who shall be carried forth, both sons and daughters; behold, they are coming forth unto you, and ye will see their way and their doings; and then will ye be comforted concerning the evil that I have brought upon Jerusalem, yea, concerning all that I have brought upon it;

23 Vous en serez, dis-je, satisfaits, lorsque vous aurez vu leur train [de vie], et leurs actions; et vous connaîtrez que je n'aurai point exécuté sans cause tout ce que j'aurai fait en elle, dit le Seigneur l'Eternel.

And they will comfort you, when ye see their way and their doings; and ye shall know that I have not done without cause all that I have executed in it, saith the Lord Eternal.
