Exode 14
1 Et l'Eternel parla à Moïse, en disant:
Then spake Yahweh unto Moses, saying:
2 Parle aux enfants d'Israël; [et leur dis], qu'ils se détournent, et qu'ils se campent devant Pi-Hahiroth, entre Migdol et la mer, vis-à-vis de Bahal-Tsépnon; vous camperez vis-à-vis de ce [lieu-là] près de la mer.
Speak unto the sons of Israel, that they turn back and encamp before Pi-hahiroth, between Migdol and the sea, —before Baal-zephon, over against it, shall ye encamp, by the sea.
3 Alors Pharaon dira des enfants d'Israël: ils sont embarrassés dans le pays, le désert les a enfermés.
Then will Pharaoh say, of the sons of Israel, Entangled, they are in the land, —the desert hath closed in upon them.
4 Et j'endurcirai le cœur de Pharaon, et il vous poursuivra; ainsi je serai glorifié en Pharaon, et en toute son armée, et les Egyptiens sauront que je suis l'Eternel; et ils firent ainsi.
So will I let the heart of Pharaoh wax bold, and he will pursue them, that I may get me honour over Pharaoh, and over all his forces, and the Egyptians shall know, that I, am Yahweh. And they did so.
5 Or on avait rapporté au Roi d'Egypte que le peuple s'enfuyait, et le cœur de Pharaon et de ses serviteurs fut changé à l'égard du peuple, et ils dirent: qu'[est-ce que] nous avons fait, que nous ayons laissé aller Israël, en sorte qu'il ne nous servira plus?
And it was told the king of Egypt, that the people had fled, —and the heart of Pharaoh and his servants was turned against the people, and they said—What is this we have done, that we have let Israel go from serving us?
6 Alors il fit atteler son chariot, et il prit son peuple avec soi.
So he yoked his chariot, —and his people, took he with him.
7 Il prit donc six cents chariots d'élite, et tous les chariots d'Egypte; et il y avait des Capitaines sur tout cela.
And he took six hundred chosen chariots, and all the chariots of Egypt, —with warriors in every one.
8 Et l'Eternel endurcit le cœur de Pharaon Roi d'Egypte, qui poursuivit les enfants d'Israël. Or les enfants d'Israël étaient sortis à main levée.
And Yahweh let the heart of Pharaoh king of Egypt wax bold, and he pursued the sons of Israel, —when the sons of Israel, were going out with a high hand.
9 Les Egyptiens donc les poursuivirent; et tous les chevaux des chariots de Pharaon, ses gens de cheval, et son armée les atteignirent comme ils étaient campés près de la mer, vers Pi-Hahiroth vis-à-vis de Bahal-Tséphon.
So the Egyptians pursued them and overtook them, encamping by the sea—all the horses and chariots of Pharaoh, and his horsemen, and his forces, —by Pi-hahiroth, before Baal-zephon.
10 Et lorsque Pharaon se fut approché, les enfants d'Israël levèrent leurs yeux, et voici, les Egyptiens marchaient après eux, et les enfants d'Israël eurent une fort grande peur, et crièrent à l'Eternel.
Now when, Pharaoh, had drawn near, the sons of Israel lifted up their eyes, and lo! the Egyptians, moving along after them and they feared greatly, and the sons of Israel made outcry unto Yahweh.
11 Et dirent à Moïse: est-ce qu'il n'y avait pas de sépulcres en Egypte, que tu nous aies emmenés pour mourir au désert? Qu'est-ce que tu nous as fait de nous avoir fait sortir d'Egypte?
Then said they unto Moses, Was it because there were no graves in Egypt, that thou didst fetch us to die in the desert? What is this thou hast done to us, bringing us forth out of Egypt?
12 N'est-ce pas ce que nous te disions en Egypte, disant: retire-toi de nous, et que nous servions les Egyptiens? Car il vaut mieux que nous les servions, que si nous mourions au désert.
Is not this the word which we spake unto thee in Egypt, saying, Let us alone, that we may serve the Egyptians, —for it is better for us, to serve the Egyptians, than to die in the desert?
13 Et Moïse dit au peuple: ne craignez point, arrêtez-vous, et voyez la délivrance de l'Eternel, laquelle il vous donnera aujourd'hui; car pour les Egyptiens que vous avez vus aujourd'hui, vous ne les verrez plus.
And Moses said unto the people—Do not fear, stand still and see the salvation of Yahweh, which he will work for you to-day, —for as for the Egyptians whom ye have seen to-day, ye shall not again see them any more to times age-abiding.
14 L'Eternel combattra pour vous, et vous demeurerez tranquilles.
Yahweh, will fight for you, —and, ye, shall forbear.
15 Or l'Eternel avait dit à Moïse: que cries-tu à moi? Parle aux enfants d'Israël, qu'ils mArchent.
And Yahweh said unto Moses, What outcry wouldst thou make unto me? Speak unto the sons of Israel, that they go forward;
16 Et toi, élève ta verge, et étends ta main sur la mer, et la fends, et que les enfants d'Israël entrent au milieu de la mer à sec.
and, thou, lift high thy staff and stretch forth thy hand over the sea and cleave it asunder, —that the sons of Israel may enter into the midst of the sea on dry ground;
17 Et quant à moi, voici, je m'en vais endurcir le cœur des Egyptiens, afin qu'ils entrent après eux; et je serai glorifié en Pharaon, et en toute son armée, en ses chariots et en ses gens de cheval.
and, I, behold me letting the heart of the Egyptians wax bold, that they may enter after them, —that I may get me honour over Pharaoh and over his forces, over his chariots, and over his horsemen,
18 Et les Egyptiens sauront que je suis l'Eternel, quand j'aurai été glorifié en Pharaon, en ses chariots, et en ses gens de cheval.
And the Egyptians shall know, that, I, am Yahweh, —when I have gotten me honour over Pharaoh, over his chariots and over his horsemen.
19 Et l'Ange de Dieu qui allait devant le camp d'Israël, partit, et s'en alla derrière eux; et la colonne de nuée partit de devant eux, et se tint derrière eux:
And the messenger of God who was going on before the camp of Israel removed, and came on behind them, —and the pillar of cloud removed from before them, and stood behind them;
20 Et elle vint entre le camp des Egyptiens et le camp d'Israël; et elle était aux uns une nuée et une obscurité, et pour les autres, elle les éclairait la nuit; et l'un [des camps] n'approcha point de l'autre durant toute la nuit.
so it came in between the camp of the Egyptians and the camp of Israel, so it became a cloud and darkness, and yet lighted up the night, —so that the one came not near unto the other, all the night.
21 Or Moïse avait étendu sa main sur la mer; et l'Eternel fit reculer la mer toute la nuit par un vent d'Orient fort véhément, et mit la mer à sec, et les eaux se fendirent.
And Moses stretched forth his hand over the sea, and Yahweh carried away the sea by a mighty east wind all the night, and turned the sea into dry land, —and the waters were cloven asunder.
22 Et les enfants d'Israël entrèrent au milieu de la mer au sec, et les eaux leur servaient de mur à droite et à gauche.
Then went the sons of Israel into the midst of the sea on the dry ground, —and, the waters, to them, were a wall, on their right hand and on their left.
23 Et les Egyptiens les poursuivirent; et ils entrèrent après eux au milieu de la mer, [savoir] tous les chevaux de Pharaon, ses chariots, et ses gens de cheval.
And the Egyptians pursued, and entered after them—all the horses of Pharaoh his chariots and his horsemen, —into the midst of the sea.
24 Mais il arriva que sur la veille du matin, l'Eternel étant dans la colonne de feu et dans la nuée, regarda le camp des Egyptiens, et le mit en déroute.
And it came to pass in the morning watch, that Yahweh looked down into the camp of the Egyptians, through the pillar of fire and cloud, and confused the camp of the Egyptians;
25 Il ôta les roues de ses chariots, et fit qu'on les menait bien pesamment. Alors les Egyptiens dirent: fuyons de devant les Israélites, car l'Eternel combat pour eux contre les Egyptiens.
and he took off the wheels of their chariots, and made them drive heavily, —so that the Egyptians said—We must flee from the face of Israel, for Yahweh, is fighting for them against the Egyptians.
26 Et l'Eternel dit à Moïse: étends ta main sur la mer, et les eaux retourneront sur les Egyptiens, sur leurs chariots, et sur leurs gens de cheval.
Then said Yahweh unto Moses, Stretch forth thy hand over the sea, —that the waters may return upon the Egyptians, upon their chariots, and upon their horsemen.
27 Moïse donc étendit sa main sur la mer, et la mer reprit son impétuosité comme le matin venait; et les Egyptiens s'enfuyant rencontrèrent la mer [qui s'était rejointe]; et ainsi l'Eternel jeta les Egyptiens au milieu de la mer.
So Moses stretched forth his hand over the sea and the sea returned, towards morning, to its steady flow, when the Egyptians, were fleeing to meet it, —thus Yahweh shook off the Egyptians into the midst of the sea;
28 Car les eaux retournèrent et couvrirent les chariots et les gens de cheval de toute l'armée de Pharaon, qui étaient entrés après les Israélites dans la mer, et il n'en resta pas un seul.
thus the waters returned and covered the chariots, and the horsemen, even all the forces of Pharaoh that were entering after them into the sea, —there was not left remaining among them so much as one.
29 Mais les enfants d'Israël marchèrent au milieu de la mer à sec; et les eaux leur servaient de mur à droite et à gauche.
But the sons of Israel, had gone their way on dry ground in the saidst of the sea, —and the waters had been to them a wall, on their right hand and on their left.
30 Ainsi l'Eternel délivra en ce jour-là Israël de la main des Egyptiens; et Israël vit sur le bord de la mer les Egyptiens morts.
Thus did Yahweh, on that day, save Israel, out of the hand of the Egyptians, —and Israel saw the Egyptians, dead on the shore of the sea.
31 Israël vit donc la grande puissance que l'Eternel avait déployée contre les Egyptiens; et le peuple craignit l'Eternel, et ils crurent en l'Eternel, et à Moïse son serviteur.
And when Israel saw the mighty hand wherewith Yahweh had wrought against the Egyptians, then did the people revere Yahweh, —and they put their trust in Yahweh, and in Moses, his servant.
