Esther 6
1 Cette nuit-là le Roi ne pouvait dormir; et il commanda qu'on [lui] apportât le Livre des Mémoires, [c'est-à-dire] les Chroniques; et on les lut devant le Roi.
That night the king could not sleep. He commanded servants to bring the records of the events of his reign, and they were being read aloud to the king.
2 Et il trouva écrit que Mardochée avait donné avis [de la conspiration] de Bigthana et de Térès, deux des Eunuques du Roi, d'entre ceux qui gardaient l'entrée, lesquels avaient cherché de mettre la main sur le Roi Assuérus.
It was found recorded there that Mordecai had told about Bigthana and Teresh, two of the king's officials who guarded the entrance, who had tried to harm King Ahasuerus.
3 Alors le Roi dit: Quel honneur et quelle distinction a-t-on accordés à Mardochée pour cela? Et les gens du Roi, qui le servaient, répondirent: On n'a rien fait pour lui.
The king asked, “What was done to give honor or recognition to Mordecai for doing this?” Then the king's young men who served him said, “Nothing was done for him.”
4 Et le Roi dit: Qui est au parvis? Or Haman était venu au parvis du palais du Roi, pour dire au Roi qu'il fît pendre Mardochée au gibet qu'il lui avait fait préparer.
The king said, “Who is in the courtyard?” Now Haman had entered the outer courtyard of the king's house to speak to him about hanging Mordecai on the gallows he set up for him.
5 Et les gens du Roi lui répondirent: Voilà Haman qui est au parvis; et le Roi dit: Qu'il entre.
The king's servants said to him, “Haman is standing in the courtyard.” The king said, “Let him come in.”
6 Haman donc entra, et le Roi lui dit: Que faudrait-il faire à un homme que le Roi prend plaisir d'honorer? (Or Haman dit en son cœur: A qui le Roi voudrait-il faire plus d'honneur qu'à moi?)
When Haman entered, the king said to him, “What should be done for the man whom the king takes pleasure in honoring?” Now Haman said in his heart, “Whom would the king take pleasure in honoring more than me?”
7 Et Haman répondit au Roi: Quant à l'homme que le Roi prend plaisir d'honorer,
Haman said to the king, “For the man whom the king takes pleasure in honoring,
8 Qu'on lui apporte le vêtement Royal, dont le Roi se vêt, et [qu'on lui amène] le cheval que le Roi monte, et qu'on lui mette la couronne Royale sur la tête.
let royal robes be brought, robes that the king has worn, and a horse that the king has ridden and on whose head is the royal crest.
9 Et qu'ensuite on donne ce vêtement et ce cheval à quelqu'un des principaux [et] des plus grands Seigneurs qui sont auprès du Roi, et qu'on revête l'homme que le Roi prend plaisir d'honorer, et qu'on le fasse aller à cheval par les rues de la ville; et qu'on crie devant lui: C'est ainsi qu'on doit faire à l'homme que le Roi prend plaisir d'honorer.
Then let the robes and the horse be given to one of the king's most noble officials. Let them dress the man whom the king takes pleasure in honoring, and let them lead him on the horse through the city streets. Let them proclaim before him, 'This is what is done to the one whom the king takes pleasure in honoring!'”
10 Alors le Roi dit à Haman: Hâte-toi, prends le vêtement, et le cheval, comme tu l'as dit, et fais ainsi à Mardochée le Juif qui est assis à la porte du Roi; n'omets rien de tout ce que tu as dit.
Then the king said to Haman, “Hurry, take the robes and the horse, as you have said, and do this for Mordecai the Jew who sits at the king's gate. Do not fail in a single matter of what you have said.”
11 Haman donc prit le vêtement et le cheval, et vêtit Mardochée, et il le fit aller à cheval par les rues de la ville, et il criait devant lui: C'est ainsi qu'on doit faire à l'homme que le Roi prend plaisir d'honorer.
Then Haman took the robe and the horse. He dressed Mordecai and led him on the horse through the city streets. He proclaimed before him, “This is what is done for a man whom the king takes pleasure in honoring!”
12 Puis Mardochée s'en retourna à la porte du Roi; mais Haman se retira promptement en sa maison, tout affligé, et ayant la tête couverte.
Mordecai returned to the king's gate. But Haman hurried to his house, mourning, with his head covered.
13 Et Haman raconta à Zérès sa femme, et à tous ses amis, tout ce qui lui était arrivé. Alors ses sages et Zérès sa femme lui répondirent: Si Mardochée (devant lequel tu as commencé de tomber) est de la race des Juifs, tu n'auras point le dessus sur lui, mais certainement tu tomberas devant lui.
Haman told Zeresh his wife and all his friends everything that happened to him. Then his men who were known for their wisdom, and Zeresh his wife, said to him, “If Mordecai, before whom you have begun to fall, is Jewish, you will not overcome him, but you will certainly fall before him.”
14 Et comme ils parlaient encore avec lui, les Eunuques du Roi vinrent, et se hâtèrent d'amener Haman au festin qu'Esther avait préparé.
While they were talking with him, the king's officials arrived. They hurried to bring Haman to the feast that Esther had prepared.
