Daniel 1
1 La troisième année de Jéhojakim Roi de Juda, Nébucadnetsar Roi de Babylone vint [contre] Jérusalem, et l'assiégea.
In the third year of the reign of Jehoyakim the king of Judah came Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon unto Jerusalem, and besieged it.
2 Et le Seigneur livra en sa main Jéhojakim Roi de Juda, et une partie des vaisseaux de la maison de Dieu, lesquels [Nébucadnetsar] fit emporter au pays de Sinhar en la maison de son Dieu; et il mit ces vaisseaux en la Trésorerie de son Dieu.
And the Lord gave up into his hand Yehoyakim the king of Judah, with part of the vessels of the house of God: and he brought them into the land of Shin'ar into the house of his god, namely, he brought the vessels into the treasure-house of his god.
3 Et le Roi dit à Aspenaz, Capitaine de ses Eunuques, qu'il amenât d'entre les enfants d'Israël, et de la race Royale et des principaux Seigneurs,
And the king said unto Ashpenas, the chief of his eunuchs, that he should bring out of the children of Israel, and of the royal seed, and of the nobles,
4 Quelques jeunes enfants, en qui il n'y eût aucun défaut, beaux de visage, instruits en toute sagesse, connaissant les sciences, qui eussent beaucoup d'intelligence, et en qui il y eût de la force, pour se tenir au palais du Roi; et qu'on leur enseignât les lettres et la langue des Caldéens.
[Certain] lads in whom there should be no kind of blemish, but who should be handsome in appearance, and intelligent in all wisdom, and acquainted with knowledge, and understanding science, and such as should have the ability to serve in the king's palace, and that these should be taught the learning and the language of the Chaldeans.
5 Et le Roi leur assigna pour provision chaque jour une portion de la viande Royale, et du vin dont il buvait; afin qu'on les nourrît ainsi trois ans, et qu'ensuite [quelques-uns d'entre eux] servissent en la présence du Roi.
And the king ordered for them a daily provision for its day of the king's food, and of the wine which he drank, and to educate them three years, so that at the end thereof they should serve before the king.
6 Entre ceux-là il y eut des enfants de Juda, Daniel, Hanania, Misaël et Hazaria.
Now there were among these of the children of Judah, Daniel, Chananyah, Mishael, and 'Azaryah.
7 Mais le Capitaine des Eunuques leur mit d'autres noms; car il donna à Daniel le nom de Beltesatsar; à Hanania, celui de Sadrac; à Misaël, celui de Mésac; et à Hazaria, celui d'Habed-nego.
And the chief of the eunuchs assigned them names; and he assigned to Daniel the name of Belteshazzar; and to Chananyah, of Shadrach; and to Mishael, of Meshach; and to 'Azaryah, of 'Abed-nego.
8 Or Daniel se proposa dans son cœur de ne se point souiller par la portion de la viande du Roi, ni par le vin dont le Roi buvait; c'est pourquoi il supplia le Chef des Eunuques afin qu'il ne l'engageât point à se souiller.
But Daniel resolved in his heart that he would not defile himself with the food of the king, nor with the wine which he drank: and therefore he requested of the chief of the eunuchs that he might not need to defile himself.
9 Et Dieu fit que le Chef des Eunuques eut de la bonté pour Daniel, et qu'il eut pitié de lui.
And God gave Daniel kindness and mercy before the chief of the eunuchs.
10 Toutefois le Capitaine des Eunuques dit à Daniel: Je crains le Roi mon maître, qui a ordonné votre manger et votre boire; pourquoi verrait-il vos visages plus défaits que ceux des autres jeunes enfants vos semblables, et rendriez-vous ma tête coupable envers le Roi?
And the chief of the eunuchs said unto Daniel, I fear my lord the king, who hath ordered your food and your drink; for why should he see your face sadder looking than that of the lads who are of your age? and ye would thus endanger my head with the king.
11 Mais Daniel dit à Meltsar, qui avait été ordonné par le Capitaine des Eunuques sur Daniel, Hanania, Misaël, et Hazaria;
Then said Daniel to the steward whom the chief of the eunuchs had given charge over Daniel, Chananyah, Mishael, and 'Azaryah,
12 Eprouve, je te prie, tes serviteurs pendant dix jours, et qu'on nous donne des légumes à manger, et de l'eau à boire.
Prove, I beseech thee, thy servants, ten days; and let them give us vegetables to eat, and water to drink;
13 Et après cela regarde nos visages, et les visages des jeunes enfants qui mangent la portion de la viande Royale; puis tu feras à tes serviteurs selon ce que tu auras vu.
And then let our countenances be looked at before thee, and the countenance of the lads that eat the food of the king: and as thou mayest see [fitting], so deal with thy servants.
14 Et il leur accorda cela, et les éprouva pendant dix jours.
And he hearkened unto them in this matter, and proved them ten days.
15 Mais au bout des dix jours leurs visages parurent en meilleur état, et ils avaient plus d'embonpoint que tous les jeunes enfants qui mangeaient la portion de la viande Royale.
And at the end of ten days their countenances appeared better and fuller in flesh than [that of] all the lads who ate the food of the king.
16 Ainsi Meltsar prenait la portion de leur viande, et le vin qu'ils devaient boire, et leur donnait des légumes.
And the steward took away their [apportioned] food, and the wine that they were to drink, and gave them vegetables.
17 Et Dieu donna à ces quatre jeunes enfants de la science et de l'intelligence dans toutes les lettres, et de la sagesse; et Daniel s'entendait en toute vision, et dans les songes.
But as regardeth all these four lads, God gave them knowledge and intelligence in all learning and wisdom; and Daniel had understanding in all visions and dreams.
18 Et au bout des jours que le Roi avait dit qu'on les amenât, le Capitaine des Eunuques les amena devant Nébucadnetsar.
And at the end of the days [after] which the king had said that they should be presented, the chief of the eunuchs presented them before Nebuchadnezzar.
19 Et le Roi s'entretint avec eux; mais entre eux tous il ne s'en trouva point de tels que Daniel, Hanania, Misaël, et Hazaria; et ils se tinrent en la présence du Roi.
And the king spoke with them; and there was not found among them all any one like Daniel, Chananyah, Mishael, and 'Azaryah: and so they served before the king.
20 Et dans toute question savante et qui demandait de la pénétration, sur quoi le Roi les interrogeait il trouva dix fois plus de science en eux que dans tous les tireurs d'horoscope et les astrologues qui étaient en tout son Royaume.
And in every matter of wise understanding, which the king required of them, he found them ten times superior above all the magicians and astrologers that were in all his kingdom.
21 Et Daniel [y] fut jusqu'à la première année du Roi Cyrus.
And Daniel continued even unto the first year of king Cyrus.
