Amos 5
1 Ecoutez cette parole, qui est la complainte que je prononce à haute voix touchant vous, maison d'Israël!
Give ear to this word, my song of sorrow over you, O children of Israel.
2 Elle est tombée, elle ne se relèvera plus, la vierge d'Israël; elle est abandonnée sur la terre, il n'y a personne qui la relève.
The virgin of Israel has been made low, never again to be lifted up: she is stretched out by herself on her land; there is no one to put her on her feet again.
3 Car ainsi a dit le Seigneur l'Eternel, à la maison d'Israël: La ville de laquelle il en sortait mille, n'en aura de reste que cent; et celle de laquelle il en sortait cent, n'en aura de reste que dix.
For these are the words of the Lord God: The town which was able to send out a thousand, will have only a hundred; and that which sent out a hundred, will have only ten, in Israel.
4 Car ainsi a dit l'Eternel à la maison d'Israël: Cherchez-moi, et vous vivrez.
For these are the words of the Lord to the children of Israel: Let your hearts be turned to me, so that you may have life:
5 Et ne cherchez point Béthel, et n'entrez point dans Guilgal, et ne passez point à Béer-Sébah; car Guilgal sera entièrement transportée en captivité, et Béthel sera détruite.
Do not be looking for help to Beth-el, and do not go to Gilgal, or make your way to Beer-sheba: for Gilgal will certainly be taken prisoner, and Beth-el will come to nothing.
6 Cherchez l'Eternel, et vous vivrez, de peur qu'il ne saisisse la maison de Joseph, comme un feu qui la consumera, sans qu'il y ait personne qui l'éteigne à Béthel.
Go to the Lord for help so that you may have life; for fear that he may come like fire bursting out in the family of Joseph, causing destruction, and there will be no one to put it out in Beth-el.
7 Parce qu'ils changent le jugement en absinthe, et qu'ils renversent la justice.
You who make the work of judging a bitter thing, crushing down righteousness to the earth;
8 [Cherchez] celui qui a fait la Poussinière et l'Orion, qui change les plus noires ténèbres en aube du jour, et qui fait devenir le jour obscur comme la nuit; qui appelle les eaux de la mer, et les répand sur le dessus de la terre, le nom duquel est l'Eternel.
Go for help to him who makes Orion and the Pleiades, by whom the deep dark is turned into morning, who makes the day black with night; whose voice goes out to the waters of the sea, sending them out over the face of the earth: the Lord is his name;
9 Qui renforce le fourrageur par-dessus l'homme fort, tellement que le fourrageur entrera dans la forteresse.
Who sends sudden destruction on the strong, so that destruction comes on the walled town.
10 Ils haïssent à la porte ceux qui les reprennent, et ils ont en abomination celui qui parle en intégrité.
They have hate for him who makes protest against evil in the public place, and he whose words are upright is disgusting to them.
11 C'est pourquoi à cause que vous opprimez le pauvre, et lui enlevez la charge de froment, vous avez bâti des maisons de pierre de taille; mais vous n'y habiterez point; vous avez planté des vignes bonnes à souhait; mais vous n'en boirez point le vin.
So because the poor man is crushed under your feet, and you take taxes from him of grain: you have made for yourselves houses of cut stone, but you will not take your rest in them; the fair vine-gardens planted by your hands will not give you wine.
12 Car j'ai connu vos crimes, ils sont en grand nombre, et vos péchés se sont multipliés: vous êtes des oppresseurs du juste, et des preneurs de rançon, et vous pervertissez à la porte le droit des pauvres.
For I have seen how your evil-doing is increased and how strong are your sins, you troublers of the upright, who take rewards and do wrong to the cause of the poor in the public place.
13 C'est pourquoi l'homme prudent se tiendra dans le silence en ce temps-là; car le temps est mauvais.
So the wise will say nothing in that time; for it is an evil time.
14 Cherchez le bien, et non pas le mal, afin que vous viviez; et ainsi l'Eternel, le Dieu des armées, sera avec vous, comme vous l'avez dit.
Go after good and not evil, so that life may be yours: and so the Lord, the God of armies, will be with you, as you say.
15 Haïssez le mal, et aimez le bien, et établissez le jugement à la porte; l'Eternel le Dieu des armées, aura peut-être pitié du reste de Joseph.
Be haters of evil and lovers of good, and let right be done in the public place: it may be that the Lord, the God of armies, will have mercy on the rest of Joseph.
16 C'est pourquoi l'Eternel le Dieu des armées, le Seigneur dit ainsi; Il y aura lamentation par toutes les places, et on criera par toutes les rues Hélas! Hélas! Et on appellera au deuil le laboureur, et à la lamentation ceux qui en savent le métier.
So these are the words of the Lord, the God of armies, the Lord: There will be weeping in all the open spaces; and in all the streets they will say, Sorrow! sorrow! and they will get in the farmer to the weeping, and the makers of sad songs to give cries of grief.
17 Et il y aura lamentation par toutes les vignes; car je passerai tout au travers de toi, a dit l'Eternel.
In all the vine-gardens there will be cries of grief: for I will go through among you, says the Lord.
18 Malheur à vous qui désirez le jour de l'Eternel; De quoi vous [servira] le jour de l'Eternel? Ce sont des ténèbres, et non pas une lumière.
Sorrow to you who are looking for the day of the Lord! what is the day of the Lord to you? it is dark and not light.
19 C'est comme si un homme s'enfuyait de devant un lion, et qu'un ours le rencontrât, ou qu'il entrât en la maison, et appuyât sa main sur la paroi, et qu'un serpent le mordît.
As if a man, running away from a lion, came face to face with a bear; or went into the house and put his hand on the wall and got a bite from a snake.
20 Le jour de l'Eternel ne sont-ce pas des ténèbres, et non une lumière? Et l'obscurité n'est-elle point en lui, et non la clarté?
Will not the day of the Lord be dark and not light? even very dark, with no light shining in it?
21 Je hais et rejette vos fêtes solennelles, et je ne flairerai point [l'odeur de vos parfums] dans vos assemblées solennelles.
Your feasts are disgusting to me, I will have nothing to do with them; I will take no delight in your holy meetings.
22 Que si vous m'offrez des holocaustes et des gâteaux, je ne les accepterai point; et je ne regarderai point les oblations de prospérités que vous ferez de vos bêtes grasses.
Even if you give me your burned offerings and your meal offerings, I will not take pleasure in them: I will have nothing to do with the peace-offerings of your fat beasts.
23 Ote de devant moi le bruit de tes chansons, car je n'écouterai point la mélodie de tes musettes.
Take away from me the noise of your songs; my ears are shut to the melody of your instruments.
24 Mais le jugement roulera comme de l'eau, et la justice comme un torrent impétueux.
But let the right go rolling on like waters, and righteousness like an ever-flowing stream.
25 Est-ce à moi, maison d'Israël, que vous avez offert des sacrifices et des gâteaux dans le désert pendant quarante ans?
Did you come to me with offerings of beasts and meal offerings in the waste land for forty years, O Israel?
26 Au contraire vous avez porté le tabernacle de votre Moloc, [et] Kijun vos images, et l'étoile de vos dieux, que vous vous êtes faits.
Truly, you will take up Saccuth your king and Kaiwan your images, the star of your god, which you made for yourselves.
27 C'est pourquoi je vous transporterai au-delà de Damas, a dit l'Eternel, duquel le nom est le Dieu des armées.
And I will send you away as prisoners farther than Damascus, says the Lord, whose name is the God of armies.
