1 Or sache ceci, qu'aux derniers jours il surviendra des temps fâcheux.
Be sure of this, that in the last days difficult times will come.
2 Car les hommes seront idolâtres d'eux-mêmes, avares, vains, orgueilleux, blasphémateurs, désobéissants à leurs pères et à leurs mères, ingrats, profanes;
Men will be selfish, mercenary, boastful, haughty, and blasphemous; disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, impure,
3 Sans affection naturelle, sans fidélité, calomniateurs, incontinents, cruels, haïssant les gens de bien;
incapable of affection, merciless, slanderous, wanting in self-control, brutal, careless of the right,
4 Traîtres, téméraires, enflés [d'orgueil], amateurs des voluptés, plutôt que de Dieu.
treacherous, reckless, and puffed up with pride; they will love pleasure more than they love God;
5 Ayant l'apparence de la piété, mais en ayant renié la force: éloigne-toi donc de telles gens.
and while they retain the outward form of religion, they will not allow it to influence them. Turn your back on such men as these.
6 Or d'entre ceux-ci sont ceux qui se glissent dans les maisons, et qui tiennent captives les femmes chargées de péchés, et agitées de diverses convoitises;
For among them are to be found those who creep into homes and captivate weak women — women who, loaded with sins, and slaves to all kinds of passions,
7 Qui apprennent toujours, mais qui ne peuvent jamais parvenir à la pleine connaissance de la vérité.
are always learning, and yet never able to attain to a real knowledge of the Truth.
8 Et comme Jannès et Jambrès ont résisté à Moise, ceux-ci de même résistent à la vérité; [étant des] gens qui ont l'esprit corrompu, et qui sont réprouvés quant à la foi.
Just as Jannes and Jambres opposed Moses, so do these people, in their turn, oppose the Truth. Their minds are corrupted, and, as regards the Faith, they are utterly worthless.
9 Mais ils n'avanceront pas plus avant: car leur folie sera manifestée à tous, comme le fut celle de ceux-là.
They will not, however, make further progress; for their wicked folly will be plain to every one, just as that of Jannes and Jambres was.
10 Mais pour toi, tu as pleinement compris ma doctrine, ma conduite, mon intention, ma foi, ma douceur, ma charité, ma patience.
But you, Timothy, were a close observer of my teaching, my conduct, my purposes, my faith, my forbearance, my love, and my patient endurance,
11 Et tu [sais] les persécutions et les afflictions qui me sont arrivées à Antioche, à Iconie, et à Lystre, quelles persécutions, [dis-je], j'ai soutenues, et [comment] le Seigneur m'a délivré de toutes.
as well as of my persecutions, and of the sufferings which I met with at Antioch, Iconium, and Lystra. You know what persecutions I underwent; and yet the Lord brought me safe out of all!
12 Or tous ceux aussi qui veulent vivre selon la piété en Jésus-Christ, souffriront persécution.
Yes, and all who aim at living a religious life in union with Christ Jesus will have to suffer persecution;
13 Mais les hommes méchants et séducteurs iront en empirant, séduisant, et étant séduits.
but wicked people and impostors will go from bad to worse, deceiving others and deceived themselves.
14 Mais toi, demeure ferme dans les choses que tu as apprises, et qui t'ont été confiées, sachant de qui tu les as apprises;
You, however, must stand by what you learnt and accepted as true. You know who they were from whom you learnt it;
15 Vu même que dès ton enfance tu as la connaissance des saintes Lettres, qui te peuvent rendre sage à salut, par la foi en Jésus-Christ.
and that, from your childhood, you have known the Sacred Writings, which can give you the wisdom that, through belief in Christ Jesus, leads to Salvation.
16 Toute l'Ecriture est divinement inspirée, et utile pour enseigner, pour convaincre, pour corriger, et pour instruire selon la justice;
Everything that is written under divine inspiration is helpful for teaching, for refuting error, for giving guidance, and for training others in righteousness;
17 Afin que l'homme de Dieu soit accompli, et parfaitement instruit pour toute bonne œuvre.
so that the Servant of God may be perfect himself, and perfectly equipped for every good action.
