2 Samuel 7
1 Or il arriva qu'après que le Roi fut assis en sa maison, et que l'Eternel lui eut donné la paix avec tous ses ennemis d'alentour;
After [King] David began to live in his palace, Yahweh protected him from all his enemies.
2 Il dit à Nathan le Prophète: Regarde maintenant, j'habite dans une maison de cèdres, et l'Arche de Dieu habite dans des courtines.
One day he said to the prophet Nathan, “[It is not right that] I am here, living in a [beautiful] house made of cedar [wood], but the chest that contains God’s Ten Commandments is kept in a tent!”
3 Et Nathan dit au Roi: Va, fais tout ce qui est en ton cœur; car l'Eternel est avec toi.
Then Nathan said to the king, “Yahweh is helping/directing you, so do [regarding that chest] whatever you are thinking.”
4 Mais il arriva cette nuit-là, que la parole de l'Eternel fut adressée à Nathan, en disant:
But that night, Yahweh said to Nathan,
5 Va, et dis à David mon serviteur: Ainsi a dit l'Eternel: Me bâtirais-tu une maison afin que j'y habite,
“Go and tell my servant, David, that this is what [I], Yahweh, am saying to him: ‘You are not the one [RHQ] who should build a temple for me to live in.
6 Puisque je n'ai point habité dans une maison depuis le jour que j'ai fait monter les enfants d'Israël hors d'Egypte, jusqu'à ce jour? mais j'ai marché çà et là dans un Tabernacle, et dans un pavillon.
I have not lived in any building from the day that I brought the Israeli people up from Egypt until now. Instead, I have been living in a tent, moving from one place to another [when the Israelis] moved to other places.
7 Dans tous les lieux où j'ai marché avec tous les enfants d'Israël, en ai-je dit un seul mot à quelqu'une des Tribus d'Israël, à laquelle j'ai commandé de paître mon peuple d'Israël, en disant: Pourquoi ne m'avez-vous point bâti une maison de cèdres?
Wherever I went with all the Israelis [as they traveled], I never said [RHQ] to any of their leaders whom I appointed to lead them, “Why have you not built me a temple made of cedar [wood]?”’
8 Maintenant donc tu diras ainsi à David mon serviteur: Ainsi a dit l'Eternel des armées: Je t'ai pris d'une cabane, d'après les brebis, afin que tu fusses le Conducteur de mon peuple d'Israël.
So this is what you should say to my servant David: ‘The Almighty Commander of the armies of angels says that he took you from a pasture where you were taking care of sheep, [and appointed you] to become the ruler of my Israeli people.
9 Et j'ai été avec toi partout où tu as marché, et j'ai exterminé tous tes ennemis de devant toi, et je t'ai tait un grand nom, comme le nom des grands qui sont sur la terre.
I have (been with/helped) you wherever you have gone. I have gotten rid of all your enemies as you advanced. I will enable you to become very famous, as well-known as the names of all the greatest men [who have ever lived] on the earth.
10 Et j'établirai un lieu à mon peuple d'Israël, je le planterai, il habitera chez soi, il ne sera plus agité, et les injustes ne les affligeront plus, comme ils ont fait auparavant,
Formerly, during the time that I appointed leaders for my Israeli people, many violent groups oppressed the Israelis. But this will not happen any more. I have chosen a place where my Israeli people can live [peacefully] and no one will disturb them any more. I will give them rest from [being attacked by] their enemies. And I will defeat all your enemies. I declare to you that I, Yahweh, will enable your descendants to rule after you [die].
11 Savoir, depuis le jour que j'ai ordonné des juges sur mon peuple d'Israël, et que je t'ai donné du repos de tous tes ennemis, et que l'Eternel t'a fait entendre qu'il te bâtirait une maison.
12 Quand tes jours seront accomplis, et que tu te seras endormi avec tes pères, je susciterai après toi ton fils, qui sera sorti de tes entrailles, et j'affermirai son règne.
When your life ends [EUP] and you go to be with your ancestors, I will appoint one of your sons to be king, and I will enable his kingdom to (be strong/resist all their enemies).
13 Ce sera lui qui bâtira une maison à mon Nom, et j'affermirai le trône de son règne à jamais.
He is the one who will arrange for a temple to be built for me [MTY], and I will cause his [descendants] to be kings [MTY] [of Israel] forever.
14 Je lui serai père, et il me sera fils; que s'il commet quelque iniquité, je le châtierai avec une verge d'homme, et de plaies des fils des hommes.
I will be [like] a father to him, and [it will be as though] he [is] a son to me [MET]. When he does something that is wrong, I will punish him as fathers punish their sons.
15 Mais ma gratuité ne se retirera point de lui, comme je l'ai retirée de Saül, que j'ai ôté de devant toi.
But I will not stop faithfully loving him as I stopped loving Saul, whom I removed from being king before you became king.
16 Ainsi ta maison et ton règne seront assurés pour jamais devant tes yeux, [et] ton trône sera affermi à jamais.
Your descendants will rule the kingdom [of Israel] forever. Their rule will never end. [DOU]’”
17 Nathan parla ainsi à David, selon toutes ces paroles, et selon toute cette vision.
So Nathan told David everything that Yahweh had told him.
18 Alors le Roi David entra, et se tint devant l'Eternel, et dit: Qui suis-je, ô Seigneur Eternel! et quelle est ma maison, que tu m'aies fait venir au point [où je suis]?
Then David went into [the Sacred Tent] and sat in the presence of Yahweh, and prayed this: “Yahweh, my God, I am not worthy [RHQ] [for you to have done all these things] for me, and my family is not worthy, either.
19 Et encore cela t'a semblé être peu de chose, ô Seigneur Eternel! car tu as même parlé de la maison de ton serviteur pour un long temps. Est-ce là la manière d'agir des hommes, ô Seigneur Eternel!
“And now, O Yahweh my God, in addition to everything else, you have spoken about what will happen to my descendants in the future for many generations.
20 Et que te pourrait dire davantage David? car, Seigneur Eternel, tu connais ton serviteur.
“Yahweh God, what more can I, David, say to you [for honoring me]? Although you know very well [what I am like], Yahweh my God, you have done things for me as though I was the most important man [on the earth]!
21 Tu as fait toutes ces grandes choses pour l'amour de ta parole, et selon ton cœur, afin de faire connaître ton serviteur.
For my sake and because it is what you wanted to do, you have done all these great things for me.
22 C'est pourquoi tu t'es montré grand, ô Eternel Dieu! car il n'y en a point de tel que toi, et il n'y a point d'autre Dieu que toi, selon tout ce que nous avons entendu de nos oreilles.
“Yahweh my God, you are great. There is no one like you. Only you are God, just as we have always heard.
23 Et qui est comme ton peuple, comme Israël, la seule nation de la terre que Dieu est venu racheter, pour [en faire] son peuple, tant pour s'acquérir à lui-même un [grand] nom, que pour vous acquérir cette grandeur, et pour faire dans ton pays devant ton peuple, que tu t'es racheté d'Egypte, des choses terribles contre les nations et contre leurs dieux?
And there is no other nation in the world like Israel. Israel is the only nation on the earth whose people you went out to rescue [RHQ]. By the great and awesome things that you did, you have become famous/well-known throughout the world. As your people advanced [through this land], you expelled other people-groups [who were here in Canaan], who worshiped other gods.
24 Car tu t'es assuré ton peuple d'Israël, pour être ton peuple à jamais; et toi, ô Eternel! tu leur as été Dieu.
And you caused us Israeli people to be your people forever, and you, Yahweh, have become our God!
25 Maintenant donc, ô Eternel Dieu! confirme pour jamais la parole que tu as prononcée touchant ton serviteur, et touchant sa maison, et fais comme tu en as parlé.
“And now, Yahweh my God, [I pray that you will] cause the things that you promised to me about my descendants to be fulfilled forever, and [that you will] do the things that you said [that you would do].
26 Et que ton Nom soit magnifié à jamais, tellement qu'on dise: L'Eternel des armées est le Dieu d'Israël; et que la maison de David ton serviteur demeure stable devant toi.
When that happens, you will become famous forever, and people will exclaim, ‘The Almighty Commander of the armies of angels is the God who rules Israel.’ And you will cause that forever there will be descendants of mine who will rule.
27 Car toi, ô Eternel des armées! Dieu d'Israël! tu as fait entendre à ton serviteur, et tu lui as dit: Je te bâtirai une maison, c'est pourquoi ton serviteur a pris la hardiesse de te faire cette prière.
“Yahweh Almighty, the God whom we Israeli people [worship], you have revealed to me that you will make some of my descendants kings. For that reason, I have been brave enough to pray like this to you.
28 Maintenant donc, Seigneur Eternel! tu es Dieu, tes paroles seront véritables; or tu as promis ce bien à ton serviteur.
So now, O Yahweh Almighty, because you are God, we can trust that you will do what you promise. You have promised these good things to me.
29 Veuille donc maintenant bénir la maison de ton serviteur, afin qu'elle soit éternellement devant toi; car tu en as ainsi parlé, Seigneur Eternel! et la maison de ton serviteur sera comblée de ta bénédiction éternellement.
So now I ask you that if it pleases you, you will bless my descendants, in order that they may continue [to rule] forever. Yahweh God, you have promised these things, and [so I know that] you will keep blessing my descendants forever.”
