2 Samuel 24
1 Or la colère de l'Eternel s'embrasa encore contre Israël; parce que David fut incité contr'eux à dire: Va, dénombre Israël et Juda.
And the strong veniaunce of the Lord addide to be wrooth ayens Israel, and he stiride in hem Dauid, seiynge to Joab, Go thou, and noumbre thou Israel and Juda.
2 Le Roi donc dit à Joab, chef de l'armée, lequel il avait avec soi: Passe maintenant par toutes les Tribus d'Israël, depuis Dan jusqu'à Beersébah, et dénombre le peuple, afin que j'en sache le nombre.
And the kyng seide to Joab, the prince of his oost, Go thou bi alle lynagis of Israel fro Dan `til to Bersabee, and noumbre thou the puple, that Y wite the noumbre therof.
3 Mais Joab répondit au Roi: Que l'Eternel ton Dieu veuille augmenter ton peuple autant, et cent fois autant qu'il est maintenant; et que les yeux du Roi mon Seigneur le voient! mais pourquoi le Roi mon Seigneur prend-il plaisir à cela?
And Joab seide to the kyng, Thi Lord God encresse to this puple, `hou greet it is now, and eft multiplie he an hundrid fold in the siyt of my lord the kyng; but what wole my lord the kyng to hym silf in sich a thing?
4 Néanmoins la parole du Roi l'emporta sur Joab, et sur les Chefs de l'armée; et Joab et les chefs de l'armée sortirent de la présence du Roi pour dénombrer le peuple, [savoir] Israël.
Sotheli the word of the kyng ouer cam the wordis of Joab, and of the princes of the oost; and Joab yede out, and the princes of the knyytis, fro the face of the kyng, that thei schulden noumbre the puple of Israel.
5 Ils passèrent donc le Jourdain, et se campèrent en Haroher, à main droite de la ville, qui est au milieu du torrent de Gad, et vers Jahzer.
And whanne thei hadden passid Jordan, thei camen in to Aroer, to the riyt side of the citee which is in the valei of Gad;
6 Et ils vinrent en Galaad, et dans la terre de ceux qui habitent au bas [pays] d'Hodsi, et vinrent à Dan-Jahan, et ensuite aux environs de Sidon.
and thei passiden bi Jazer in to Galaad, and in to the lowere lond of Odsi, and camen in to the wodi places of Dan; and thei cumpassiden bisidis Sidon,
7 Et ils vinrent jusqu'à la forteresse de Tsor, et dans toutes les villes des Héviens, et des Cananéens, et sortirent vers le Midi de Juda à Beersébah.
and passiden nyy the wallis of Tire, and nyy al the lond of Euei, and of Chananei; and thei camen to the south of Juda, in Bersabee.
8 Ainsi ils traversèrent tout le pays, et revinrent à Jérusalem au bout de neuf mois et vingt jours.
And whanne al the lond was cumpassid, thei camen aftir nyne monethis and twenti daies in to Jerusalem.
9 Et Joab donna au Roi le rolle du dénombrement du peuple; et il y eut de ceux d'Israël huit cent mille hommes de guerre tirant l'épée, et de ceux de Juda cinq cent mille hommes.
Therfor Joab yaf the noumbre of discriuyng of the puple to the kyng. And of Israel weren foundun nyne hundryd thousynd of stronge men, that drewen out swerd; and of Juda fyue hundrid thousynde of fiyteris.
10 Alors David fut touché en son cœur, après qu'il eut fait ainsi dénombrer le peuple; et David dit à l'Eternel: J'ai commis un grand péché en faisant cela, mais, je te prie, ô Eternel! pardonne l'iniquité de ton serviteur; car j'ai agi très-follement.
Forsothe the herte of Dauid smoot hym, `that is, his concience repreuyde hym, aftir that the puple was noumbrid; and Dauid seide to the Lord, Y synnede greetli in this dede; but, Lord, Y preye that thou turne awei the wickidnesse of thi seruaunt, for Y dide ful folili.
11 Après cela David se leva dès le matin, et la parole de l'Eternel fut [adressée] à Gad le Prophète, qui était le Voyant de David, en disant:
Therfor Dauid roos eerli, and the word of the Lord was maad to Gad, the prophete and seere, and seide, Go thou,
12 Va, et dis à David: Ainsi a dit l'Eternel: J'apporte trois choses contre toi; choisis l'une des trois, afin que je te la fasse.
and speke to Dauid, The Lord seith these thingis, The chesyng of thre thingis is youun to thee; chese thou oon, which thou wolt of these, that Y do to thee.
13 Gad vint donc vers David, et lui fit entendre cela en disant: Que veux-tu qui t'arrive: ou sept ans de famine sur ton pays; ou que durant trois mois tu fuies devant tes ennemis, et qu'ils te poursuivent; ou que durant trois jours la mortalité soit en ton pays? Avises-y maintenant, et regarde ce que tu veux que je réponde à celui qui m'a envoyé.
And whanne Gad hadde come to Dauid, he telde to Dauid, and seide, Ether hungur schal come to thee in thi lond seuene yeer; ethir thre monethis thou schalt fle thin aduersaries, and thei schulen pursue thee; ether certis thre daies pestilence schal be in thi lond; now therfor delyuere thou, `ether auyse thou, and se, what word Y schal answere to hym that sente me.
14 Et David répondit à Gad: Je suis dans une très-grande angoisse. Je te prie que nous tombions entre les mains de l'Eternel, car ses compassions sont en grand nombre; et que je ne tombe point entre les mains des hommes.
Forsothe Dauid seide to Gad, Y am constreyned on ech side greetli; but it is betere that Y falle in to the hondis of the Lord, for his emercies ben manye, than in the hondis of men.
15 L'Eternel donc envoya la mortalité en Israël, depuis le matin jusqu'au temps de l'assignation; et il mourut du peuple depuis Dan jusqu'à Beersébah, soixante-dix mille hommes.
And the Lord sente pestilence in to Israel fro the morewtid `til to the tyme ordeyned; and seuenti thousynde of men weren deed of the puple fro Dan `til to Bersabee.
16 Mais quand l'Ange eut étendu sa main sur Jérusalem pour la ravager, l'Eternel se repentit de ce mal-là et dit à l'Ange qui faisait le dégât parmi le peuple: C'est assez, retire à cette heure ta main. Or l'Ange de l'Eternel était auprès de l'aire d'Arauna Jébusien.
And whanne the aungel of the Lord hadde holde forth his hond ouer Jerusalem, that he schulde distrie it, the Lord hadde mercy on the turmentyng; and seide to the aungel smytynge the puple, It sufficith now; withholde thin hond. Forsothe the aungel of the Lord was bisidis the corn floor of Areuna Jebusey.
17 Car David voyant l'Ange qui frappait le peuple, parla à l'Eternel, et dit: Voici, c'est moi qui ai péché, c'est moi qui ai commis l'iniquité, mais ces brebis qu'ont-elles fait? Je te prie que ta main soit contre moi, et contre la maison de mon père.
And Dauid seide to the Lord, whanne he hadde seyn the aungel sleynge the puple, Y am he that `haue synned, and Y dide wickidli; what han these do, that ben scheep? Y biseche, thin hond be turned ayens me, and ayens the hows of my fadir.
18 Et en ce jour-là Gad vint vers David, et lui dit: Monte, et dresse un autel à l'Eternel dans l'aire d'Arauna Jébusien.
Forsothe Gad, the prophete, cam to Dauid in that dai, and seide to hym, Stie thou, and ordeyne an auter to the Lord in the corn floor of Areuna Jebusei.
19 Et David monta selon la parole de Gad, ainsi que l'Eternel l'avait commandé.
And Dauid stiede, vpe the word of Gad, which the Lord hadde comaundid to hym.
20 Et Arauna regarda, et vit le Roi, et ses serviteurs qui venaient vers lui; et ainsi Arauna sortit, et se prosterna devant le Roi, le visage contre terre.
And Areuna bihelde, and perseyuede, that the kyng and hise seruauntis passiden to hym;
21 Et Arauna dit: Pour quel sujet le Roi mon Seigneur vient-il vers son serviteur? Et David répondit: Pour acheter ton aire, et y bâtir un autel à l'Eternel, afin que cette plaie soit arrêtée de dessus le peuple.
and he yede out, and worschipide the kyng bi low cheer to the erthe; and seide, What `cause is, that my lord the kyng cometh to his seruaunt? To whom Dauid seide, That Y bie of thee the corn floor, and bilde an auter to the Lord, and the sleynge ceesse, which is cruel in the puple.
22 Et Arauna dit à David: Que le Roi mon Seigneur prenne et offre ce qu'il lui plaira. Voilà des bœufs pour l'holocauste, et des chariots, et un attelage de bœufs au lieu de bois.
And Areuna seide to Dauid, My lord the kyng take, and offre, as it plesith hym; thou hast oxis in to brent sacrifice, and a wayn and yockis of oxis in to vss of wode.
23 Arauna donna tout cela au Roi [comme] un Roi. Et Arauna dit au Roi: L'Eternel ton Dieu veuille t'avoir pour agréable!
Areuna yaf alle thingis to the king. And Areuna seide to the king, Thi Lord God reseyue thi vow.
24 Et le Roi répondit à Arauna: Non, mais je l'achèterai de toi pour un certain prix, et je n'offrirai point à l'Eternel mon Dieu des holocaustes qui ne me coûtent rien. Ainsi David acheta l'aire, et il [acheta aussi] les bœufs cinquante sicles d'argent.
To whom the king answeride, and seide, Not as thou wolt, but Y schal bie of thee for prijs, and Y schal not offre to `my Lord God brent sacrifices youun freli. Therfor Dauid bouyte the corn floor, and `he bouyte oxis for fifti siclis of siluer.
25 Puis David bâtit là un autel à l'Eternel, et offrit des holocaustes et des sacrifices de prospérités; et l'Eternel fut apaisé envers le pays, et la plaie fut arrêtée en Israël.
And Dauid bildide there an auter to the Lord, and offride brent sacrifices and pesible sacrifices; and the Lord dide merci to the lond, and the veniaunce was refreyned fro Israel.
