2 Samuel 20
1 Et il se trouva là un méchant homme qui avait nom Sébah, fils de Bicri, homme de Jémini, qui sonna de la trompette, et qui dit: Nous n'avons point de part avec David, ni d'héritage [à attendre du] fils d'Isaï. Ô Israël! que chacun [se retire] en ses tentes.
And there happened to be a man of worthlessness there, and his name [is] Sheba, son of Bichri, a Benjamite, and he blows with a horn and says, “We have no portion in David, and we have no inheritance in the son of Jesse; each [goes] to his tents, O Israel.”
2 Ainsi tous les hommes d'Israël se séparèrent de David, et suivirent Sébah fils de Bicri; mais les hommes de Juda s'attachèrent à leur Roi, [et l'accompagnèrent] depuis le Jourdain jusqu'à Jérusalem.
And every man of Israel goes up from after David, after Sheba son of Bichri, and the men of Judah have cleaved to their king, from the Jordan even to Jerusalem.
3 Or quand David fut venu en sa maison à Jérusalem, il prit ses dix femmes concubines qu'il avait laissées pour garder sa maison, et les fit garder dans une maison, [où il] les nourrissait; mais il n'allait point vers elles; ainsi elles furent séquestrées jusqu'au jour de leur mort, pour vivre en veuvage.
And David comes to his house at Jerusalem. And the king takes the ten women-concubines whom he had left to keep the house, and puts them in a house of ward and sustains them, and he has not gone in to them, and they are shut up to the day of their death, living in widowhood.
4 Puis le Roi dit à Hamasa: Assemble-moi dans trois jours à cri public les hommes de Juda, et représente toi ici.
And the king says to Amasa, “Call the men of Judah for me [within] three days, and you, stand here,”
5 Hamasa donc s'en alla assembler à cri public ceux de Juda; mais il tarda au delà du temps qu'on lui avait assigné.
and Amasa goes to call Judah, and tarries beyond the appointed time that he had appointed him;
6 Et David dit à Abisaï: Maintenant Sébah fils de Bicri nous fera plus de mal que n'a fait Absalom; toi [donc] prends les serviteurs de ton Seigneur, et le poursuis, de peur qu'il ne trouve quelques villes fortes, et que nous ne le perdions de vue.
and David says to Abishai, “Now Sheba son of Bichri does evil to us more than Absalom; you, take the servants of your lord, and pursue after him, lest he has found fortified cities for himself, and delivered himself [from] our eye.”
7 Ainsi les gens de Joab sortirent après lui, avec les Kéréthiens, et les Péléthiens, et tous les hommes forts; ils sortirent donc de Jérusalem pour poursuivre Sébah fils de Bicri.
And the men of Joab go out after him, and the Cherethite, and the Pelethite, and all the mighty men, and they go out from Jerusalem to pursue after Sheba son of Bichri;
8 Et comme ils étaient auprès de la grande pierre qui est à Gabaon, Hamasa vint au devant d'eux, et Joab avait sa casaque, dont il était vêtu, ceinte, et son épée était ceinte par dessus, attachée sur ses reins dans son fourreau, et quand il sortit elle tomba.
they [are] near the great stone that [is] in Gibeon, and Amasa has gone before them, and Joab [is] girded; he has put his long robe on him, and on it a girdle—a sword [is] fastened on his loins in its sheath; and he has gone out, and it falls.
9 Et Joab dit à Hamasa: Te portes-tu bien, mon frère? Puis Joab prit de sa main droite la barbe de Hamasa pour le baiser.
And Joab says to Amasa, “Are you [in] peace, my brother?” And the right hand of Joab lays hold on the beard of Amasa to give a kiss to him;
10 Or Hamasa ne prenait point garde à l'épée qui était en la main de Joab; et Joab l'en frappa à la cinquième côte, et répandit ses entrailles à terre, sans le frapper une seconde fois; et ainsi il mourut. Après cela Joab et Abisaï son frère poursuivirent Sébah fils de Bicri.
and Amasa has not been watchful of the sword that [is] in the hand of Joab, and he strikes him with it to the fifth [rib], and sheds out his bowels to the earth, and he has not repeated [it] to him, and he dies; and Joab and his brother Abishai have pursued after Sheba son of Bichri.
11 Alors un des serviteurs de Joab s'arrêta auprès d'Hamasa, et dit: Quiconque aime Joab, et quiconque est pour David, qu'il suive Joab.
And a man has stood by him, of the young men of Joab, and says, “He who has delight in Joab, and he who [is] for David—after Joab!”
12 Et Hamasa était vautré dans son sang au milieu du chemin; mais cet homme-là voyant que tout le peuple s'arrêtait, poussa Hamasa hors du chemin dans un champ, et jeta un vêtement sur lui, après qu'il eut vu que tous ceux qui venaient à lui s'arrêtaient.
And Amasa is rolling himself in blood, in the midst of the highway, and the man sees that all the people have stood still, and he brings around Amasa out of the highway to the field, and casts a garment over him when he has seen that everyone who has come by him has stood still.
13 Et quand on l'eut ôté du chemin, tous les hommes qui suivaient Joab passaient au delà, afin de poursuivre Sébah fils de Bicri;
When he has been removed out of the highway, every man has passed on after Joab, to pursue after Sheba son of Bichri.
14 Qui passa par toutes les Tribus d'Israël, jusqu'à Abelah, et Beth-mahaca, avec tous les Bériens qui s'étaient assemblés, et qui aussi l'avaient suivi.
And he passes over through all the tribes of Israel to Abel, and to Beth-Maachah, and to all the Berites, and they are assembled, and also go in after him,
15 Les gens donc de Joab s'en vinrent, et l'assiégèrent à Abel Beth-mahaca, et ils élevèrent une terrasse contre la ville, au devant de la muraille; et tout le peuple qui était avec Joab rompait la muraille pour la faire tomber.
and they go in and lay siege against him, in Abel of Beth-Maachah, and cast up a mound against the city, and it stands in a trench, and all the people who are [are] with Joab are destroying, to cause the wall to fall.
16 Alors une femme sage de la ville s'écria: Ecoutez, écoutez: Dites, je vous prie, à Joab: Approche-toi d'ici, [et] que je parle à toi.
And a wise woman calls out of the city, “Hear! Hear! Please say to Joab, Come near here, and I speak to you.”
17 Et quand il se fut approché d'elle, elle lui dit: Es-tu Joab? Il répondit: Je le suis. Elle lui dit: Ecoute les paroles de ta servante. Il répondit: J'écoute.
And he comes near to her, and the woman says, “Are you Joab?” And he says, “I [am].” And she says to him, “Hear the words of your handmaid”; and he says, “I am hearing.”
18 Elle parla encore, et dit: On disait communément autrefois: Qu'on aille demander conseil à Abel, et on a ainsi continué.
And she speaks, saying, “They spoke often in former times, saying, Let them diligently inquire at Abel, and so they finished.
19 Entre les [villes] fidèles d'Israël je suis une des plus paisibles; tu cherches à détruire une ville qui est une des capitales d'Israël; pourquoi détruirais-tu l'héritage de l'Eternel?
I [am] of the peaceable, faithful ones of Israel; you are seeking to destroy a city and mother in Israel; why do you swallow up the inheritance of YHWH?”
20 Joab lui répondit, et dit: A Dieu ne plaise! à Dieu ne plaise que je détruise, ni que je ruine!
And Joab answers and says, “Far be it—far be it from me; I do not swallow up nor destroy.
21 La chose n'est pas ainsi; mais un homme de la montagne d'Ephraïm, qui a nom Sébah, fils de Bicri, a levé sa main contre le Roi David; livrez-le moi lui seul, et je m'en irai de devant la ville. Et la femme dit à Joab: Voici, sa tête te sera jetée de dessus la muraille.
The matter [is] not so; for a man of the hill-country of Ephraim—Sheba son of Bichri [is] his name—has lifted up his hand against the king, against David; give him up by himself, and I go away from the city.” And the woman says to Joab, “Behold, his head is cast to you over the wall.”
22 Cette femme-là donc vint vers tout le peuple, et leur parla sagement, et ils coupèrent la tête à Sébah fils de Bicri, et la jetèrent à Joab. Alors on sonna de la trompette, et chacun se retira de devant la ville en sa tente; puis Joab s'en retourna vers le Roi à Jérusalem.
And the woman comes to all the people in her wisdom, and they cut off the head of Sheba son of Bichri, and cast [it] to Joab, and he blows with a horn, and they are scattered from the city, each [goes] to his tents, and Joab has turned back to Jerusalem to the king.
23 Joab donc [demeura établi] sur toute l'armée d'Israël, et Bénaja fils de Jéhojadah sur les Kéréthiens, et sur les Péléthiens;
And Joab [is] over all the host of Israel, and Benaiah son of Jehoiada [is] over the Cherethite, and over the Pelethite,
24 Et Adoram sur les tributs, et Jehosaphat fils d'Ahilud était commis sur les Registres.
and Adoram [is] over the tribute, and Jehoshaphat son of Ahilud [is] the remembrancer,
25 Séla était le Secrétaire; et Tsadok et Abiathar étaient les Sacrificateurs.
and Sheva [is] scribe, and Zadok and Abiathar [are] priests,
26 Et Hira Jaïrite était le principal officier de David.
and also, Ira the Jairite has been minister to David.
