2 Samuel 2
1 Or il arriva après cela que David consulta l'Eternel, en disant: Monterai-je en quelqu'une des villes de Juda? Et l'Eternel lui répondit: Monte. Et David dit: En laquelle monterai-je? Il répondit: A Hébron.
After this, Dauid asked counsel of the Lord, saying, Shall I go vp into any of the cities of Iudah? And the Lord sayd vnto him, Goe vp. And Dauid sayd Whither shall I goe? Hee then answered, Vnto Hebron.
2 David donc monta là avec ses deux femmes, Ahinoham qui était de Jizréhel, et Abigal, [qui avait été] femme de Nabal, lequel était de Carmel.
So Dauid went vp thither, and his two wiues also, Ahinoam the Izreelite, and Abigail Nabals wife the Carmelite.
3 David fit remonter aussi les hommes qui étaient avec lui, chacun avec sa famille, et ils demeurèrent dans les villes de Hébron.
And Dauid brought vp the men that were with him, euery man with his houshold, and they dwelt in the cities of Hebron.
4 Et ceux de Juda vinrent, et oignirent là David pour Roi sur la maison de Juda. Et on fit rapport à David; en disant: Les hommes de Jabés de Galaad ont enseveli Saül.
Then the men of Iudah came, and there they anoynted Dauid King ouer the house of Iudah. And they tolde Dauid, saying, that the men of Iabesh Gilead buried Saul.
5 Et David envoya des messagers vers les hommes de Jabés de Galaad, et leur fit dire: Bénis soyez-vous de l'Eternel de ce que vous avez fait cette gratuité à Saül votre Seigneur, que de l'avoir enseveli.
And Dauid sent messengers vnto the men of Iabesh Gilead, and said vnto them, Blessed are ye of the Lord, that yee haue shewed such kindenes vnto your lord Saul, that you haue buried him.
6 Que maintenant donc l'Eternel veuille user envers vous de gratuité, et de vérité; de ma part aussi je vous ferai du bien, parce que vous avez fait cela.
Therefore now the Lord shewe mercie and trueth vnto you: and I will recompence you this benefite, because ye haue done this thing.
7 Et que maintenant vos mains se fortifient, et soyez hommes de cœur; car Saül votre Seigneur est mort, et la maison de Juda m'a oint pour être Roi sur eux.
Therefore nowe let your handes be strong, and be you valiant: albeit your master Saul bee dead, yet neuerthelesse the house of Iudah hath anoynted me King ouer them.
8 Mais Abner fils de Ner, chef de l'armée de Saül, prit Is-boseth fils de Saül, et le fit passer à Mahanajim;
But Abner the sonne of Ner that was captaine of Sauls hoste, tooke Ish-bosheth the sonne of Saul, and brought him to Mahanaim,
9 Et l'établit Roi sur Galaad, et sur les Asuriens, et sur Jizréhel, et sur Ephraïm, et sur Benjamin; même sur tout Israël.
And made him King ouer Gilead, and ouer the Ashurites, and ouer Izreel, and ouer Ephraim, and ouer Beniamin, and ouer al Israel.
10 Is-boseth fils de Saül était âgé de quarante ans quand il commença à régner sur Israël, et il régna deux ans. Il n'y avait que la maison de Juda qui suivît David.
Ish-bosheth Sauls sonne was fourtie yeere olde when he began to reigne ouer Israel, and reigned two yeere: but the house of Iudah followed Dauid.
11 Et le nombre des jours que David régna à Hébron sur la maison de Juda, fut de sept ans et six mois.
(And the time which Dauid reigned in Hebron ouer the house of Iudah, was seuen yeere and sixe moneths)
12 Or Abner fils de Ner, et les gens d'Is-boseth fils de Saül, sortirent de Mahanajim, vers Gabaon.
And Abner the sonne of Ner, and the seruantes of Ish-bosheth the sonne of Saul went out of Mahanaim to Gibeon.
13 Joab aussi fils de Tséruja, et les gens de David sortirent, et ils se rencontrèrent les uns les autres près de l'étang de Gabaon; et les uns se tenaient auprès de l'étang du côté de deçà, et les autres auprès de l'étang du côté de delà.
And Ioab the sonne of Zeruiah, and the seruants of Dauid went out and met one another by the poole of Gibeon: and they sate downe, the one on the one side of the poole, and the other on the otherside of the poole.
14 Alors Abner dit à Joab: Que quelques-uns de ces jeunes gens se lèvent maintenant, et qu'ils escarmouchent devant nous. Et Joab dit: Qu'ils se lèvent.
Then Abner saide to Ioab, Let the yong men nowe arise, and play before vs. And Ioab said, Let them arise.
15 Ils se levèrent donc, et on en compta douze de Benjamin pour le parti d'Is-boseth fils de Saül; et douze des gens de David.
Then there arose and went ouer twelue of Beniamin by number, which perteined to Ish-bosheth the sonne of Saul, and twelue of the seruants of Dauid.
16 Alors chacun d'eux empoignant son homme lui passa son épée dans les flancs, et ils tombèrent tous ensemble; et ce lieu-là fut appelé Helkath-hatsurim, qui est en Gabaon.
And euery one caught his fellowe by the head, and thrust his sword in his fellowes side, so they fell downe together: wherefore ye place was called Helkath-hazzurim, which is in Gibeon.
17 Et il y eut en ce jour-là un très-rude combat, dans lequel Abner fut battu avec ceux d'Israël par les gens de David.
And the battel was exceeding sore that same day: for Abner and the men of Israel fell before the seruants of Dauid.
18 Les trois fils de Tséruja, Joab, Abisaï, et Hasaël étaient là. Et Hasaël était léger du pied comme un chevreuil [qui est] par les champs.
And there were three sonnes of Zeruiah there, Ioab, and Abishai, and Asahel. And Asahel was as light on foote as a wilde roe.
19 Et Hasaël poursuivit Abner, sans se détourner à droite ni à gauche d'après Abner.
And Asahel followed after Abner, and in going he turned neither to the right hand nor to the left from Abner.
20 Abner donc regardant derrière soi, dit: Es-tu Hasaël? et [Hasaël] répondit: Je le suis.
Then Abner looked behind him, and said, Art thou Asahel? And he answered, Yea.
21 Et Abner lui dit: Détourne-toi à droite ou à gauche, et saisis-toi de l'un de ces jeunes gens, et prends sa dépouille pour toi. Mais Hasaël ne voulut point se détourner de lui.
Then Abner said, Turne thee either to the right hande, or to the left, and take one of the yong men, and take thee his weapons: and Asahel would not depart from him.
22 Et Abner continuait à dire à Hasaël: Détourne-toi de moi; pourquoi te jetterais-je mort par terre? et comment oserais-je paraître devant Joab ton frère?
And Abner saide to Asahel, Depart from me: wherefore shoulde I smite thee to the grounde? howe then shoulde I be able to holde vp my face to Ioab thy brother?
23 Mais il ne voulut jamais se détourner; et Abner le frappa de sa hallebarde à la cinquième côte du bout de derrière, tellement que sa hallebarde lui sortait par derrière, et il tomba là roide mort sur la place; et tous ceux qui venaient à l'endroit où Hasaël était tombé mort, s'arrêtaient.
And when he woulde not depart, Abner with the hinder ende of the speare smote him vnder the fift ryb, that the speare came out behind him: and he fell downe there, and dyed in his place. And as many as came to the place where Asahel fell downe and dyed, stoode still.
24 Joab donc et Abisaï poursuivirent Abner, et le soleil se coucha quand ils arrivèrent au coteau d'Amma, qui est vis-à-vis de Gujah, au chemin du désert de Gabaon.
Ioab also and Abishai pursued after Abner: and the sunne went downe, when they were come to the hill Ammah, that lieth before Giah, by the way of the wildernesse of Gibeon.
25 Et les enfants de Benjamin s'assemblèrent auprès d'Abner, se rangèrent en un bataillon, et se tinrent sur le sommet d'un coteau.
And the children of Beniamin gathered them selues together after Abner, and were on an heape and stoode on the top of an hill.
26 Alors Abner cria à Joab, et dit: L'épée dévorera-t-elle sans cesse? ne sais-tu pas bien que l'amertume est à la fin; et jusqu'à quand différeras-tu de dire au peuple, qu'il cesse de poursuivre ses frères?
Then Abner called to Ioab, and said, Shall the sworde deuoure for euer? knowest thou not, that it will be bitternesse in the latter ende? howe long then shall it be, or thou bid the people returne from following their brethren?
27 Et Joab dit: Dieu est vivant, que si tu avais parlé ainsi, le peuple se serait retiré dès le matin chacun arrière de son frère.
And Ioab sayde, As God liueth, if thou haddest not spoken, surely euen in the morning the people had departed euery one backe from his brother.
28 Joab donc sonna de la trompette et tout le peuple s'arrêta, ils ne poursuivirent plus Israël, et ils ne continuèrent plus à se battre.
So Ioab blew a trumpet, and all the people stoode still, and pursued after Israel no more, neither fought they any more.
29 Ainsi Abner et ses gens marchèrent toute cette nuit-là par la campagne, traversèrent le Jourdain, passèrent par tout Bithron, et arrivèrent à Mahanajim.
And Abner and his men walked all that night through the plaine, and went ouer Iorden, and past through all Bithron till they came to Mahanaim.
30 Joab aussi revint de la poursuite d'Abner; et quand il eut assemblé tout le peuple, on trouva qu'il en manquait dix-neuf des gens de David, et Hasaël.
Ioab also returned backe from Abner: and when he had gathered all the people together, there lacked of Dauids seruants nineteene men and Asahel.
31 Mais les gens de David frappèrent de ceux de Benjamin, [savoir] des gens d'Abner, trois cent soixante hommes qui moururent.
But the seruants of Dauid had smitten of Beniamin, and of Abners men, so that three hundreth and threescore men dyed.
32 Et ils enlevèrent Hasaël, et l'ensevelirent au sépulcre de son père, à Bethléhem; et toute cette nuit-là Joab et ses gens marchèrent et arrivèrent à Hébron sur le point du jour.
And they tooke vp Asahel, and buried him in the sepulchre of his father, which was in Bethlehem: and Ioab and his men went all night, and when they came to Hebron, the day arose.
