2 Samuel 16

1 Quand David eut passé un peu au delà du sommet [de la montagne], voici Tsiba, serviteur de Méphiboseth, vint au devant de lui, avec deux ânes bâtés, sur lesquels il y avait deux cents pains, et cent paquets de raisins secs, et cent [autres paquets] de [fruits] d'Eté, et un baril de vin.

And when David had gone a little way past the top of the slope, Ziba, the servant of Mephibosheth, came to him, with two asses on which were two hundred cakes of bread and a hundred stems of dry grapes and a hundred summer fruits and a skin of wine.

2 Et le Roi dit à Tsiba: Que veux-tu faire de cela? Et Tsiba répondit: Les ânes sont pour la famille du Roi, afin qu'ils montent dessus; et le pain, et les autres fruits d'Eté à manger, sont pour les jeunes gens, et il y a du vin pour boire, afin que ceux qui se trouveront fatigués au désert, en boivent.

And David said to Ziba, What is your reason for this? And Ziba said, The asses are for the use of the king's people, and the bread and the fruit are food for the young men; and the wine is for drink for those who are overcome by weariness in the waste land.

3 Et le Roi lui dit: Mais où est le fils de ton Maître? Et Tsiba répondit au Roi: Voilà, il est demeuré à Jérusalem; car il a dit: Aujourd'hui la maison d'Israël me rendra le Royaume de mon père.

And the king said, And where is your master's son? And Ziba said, He is still at Jerusalem: for he said, Today Israel will give back to me the kingdom of my father.

4 Alors le Roi dit à Tsiba: Voilà, tout ce qui est à Méphiboseth, [est à toi]. Et Tsiba dit: Je me prosterne devant toi, je trouve grâce devant toi, ô Roi mon Seigneur!

Then the king said to Ziba, Truly everything which was Mephibosheth's is yours. And Ziba said, I give honour to my lord, may I have grace in your eyes, my lord, O king!

5 Et le Roi David vint jusqu'à Bahurim; et voici il sortit de là un homme de la famille de la maison de Saül, nommé Simhi fils de Guéra, qui étant sorti avec impétuosité, faisait des imprécations.

And when King David came to Bahurim, a man of Saul's family named Shimei, the son of Gera, came out from there, calling curses after him.

6 Et jetait des pierres contre David, et contre tous les serviteurs du Roi David, et tout le peuple, et tous les hommes forts étaient à la droite et à la gauche du Roi.

And he sent stones at David and at all the king's servants and at all the people and at all the men of war by his side, on the right hand and on the left.

7 Or Simhi parlait ainsi en le maudissant: Sors, sors, homme de sang, et méchant homme.

And Shimei said, with curses, Be gone, be gone, you man of blood, you good-for-nothing:

8 L'Eternel a fait retomber sur toi tout le sang de la maison de Saül, en la place duquel tu as régné, et l'Eternel a mis le royaume entre les mains de ton fils Absalom, et voilà, [tu souffres] le mal [que tu as fait], parce que tu es un homme de sang.

The Lord has sent punishment on you for all the blood of the family of Saul, whose kingdom you have taken; and the Lord has given the kingdom to Absalom, your son: now you yourself are taken in your evil, because you are a man of blood.

9 Alors Abisaï, fils de Tséruja, dit au Roi: Comment ce chien mort maudit-il le Roi mon Seigneur? que je passe, je te prie, et que je lui ôte la tête.

Then Abishai, the son of Zeruiah, said to the king, Is this dead dog to go on cursing my lord the king? let me go over and take off his head.

10 Mais le Roi répondit: Qu'ai-je à faire avec vous, fils de Tséruja? Qu'il [me] maudisse; car l'Eternel lui a dit: Maudis David; qui donc lui dira: Pourquoi l'as-tu fait?

And the king said, What have I to do with you, you sons of Zeruiah? Let him go on cursing, for the Lord has said, Put a curse on David, and who then may say, Why have you done so?

11 David dit aussi à Abisaï, et à tous ses serviteurs: Voici, mon propre fils qui est sorti de mes entrailles, cherche ma vie, et combien plus maintenant un fils de Jémini? Laissez-le, et qu'il [me] maudisse; car l'Eternel le lui a dit.

And David said to Abishai and to all his servants, You see how my son, the offspring of my body, has made designs against my life: how much more then may this Benjamite do so? Let him be, and let him go on cursing; for the Lord has given him orders.

12 Peut-être l'Eternel regardera mon affliction, l'Eternel me rendra le bien au lieu des malédictions que celui-ci me donne aujourd'hui.

It may be that the Lord will take note of my wrongs, and give me back good in answer to his cursing of me today.

13 David donc avec ses gens continuait son chemin, et Simhi allait à côté de la montagne, vis-à-vis de lui, continuant à maudire, jetant des pierres contre lui, et de la poudre en l'air.

So David and his men went on their way: and Shimei went by the hillside parallel with them, cursing and sending stones and dust at him.

14 Ainsi le Roi David, et tout le peuple qui était avec lui, étant fatigués, vinrent, et se rafraîchirent là.

And the king and his people came tired to Jordan, and took their rest there.

15 Or Absalom et tout le peuple, [savoir] les hommes d'Israël, entrèrent dans Jérusalem; et Achithophel était avec lui.

And Absalom and the men of Israel came to Jerusalem, and Ahithophel was with him.

16 Or il arriva que quand Cusaï Arkite, l'intime ami de David, fut venu vers Absalom, il dit à Absalom: Vive le Roi, vive le Roi.

Then Hushai the Archite, David's friend, came to Absalom and said, Long life to the king, long life to the king!

17 Et Absalom dit à Cusaï: Est-ce donc là l'affection que tu as pour ton intime ami? pourquoi n'es-tu point allé avec ton intime ami?

And Absalom said, Is this your love for your friend? why did you not go with your friend?

18 Mais Cusaï répondit à Absalom: Non; mais je serai à celui que l'Eternel a choisi, et que ce peuple, et tous les hommes d'Israël [ont aussi choisi], et je demeurerai avec lui.

And Hushai said to Absalom, Not so; I am for that man whom the Lord and this people and all the men of Israel have taken as king, and I will take my place with him.

19 Et de plus, qui servirai-je? ne sera-ce pas son fils? Je serai ton serviteur, comme j'ai été le serviteur de ton père.

And more than this! where is my place as a servant? is it not before his son? as I have been your father's servant, so will I be yours.

20 Alors Absalom dit à Achithophel: Consultez ensemble [pour voir] ce que nous avons à faire.

Then Absalom said to Ahithophel, Give your opinion now, what are we to do?

21 Et Achithophel dit à Absalom: Va vers les concubines de ton père, qu'il a laissées pour garder la maison, afin que quand tout Israël saura que tu te seras mis en mauvaise odeur auprès de ton père, les mains de tous ceux qui sont avec toi, soient fortifiées.

And Ahithophel said to Absalom, Go in to your father's women who are here looking after his house; then all Israel will have the news that you are hated by your father, and the hands of your supporters will be strong.

22 On dressa donc un pavillon à Absalom sur le toit de la maison: et Absalom vint vers les concubines de son père, à la vue de tout Israël.

So they put up the tent for Absalom on the top of the house, and Absalom went in to his father's women before the eyes of all Israel.

23 Or le conseil que donnait Achithophel en ce temps-là était autant estimé, que si quelqu'un eût demandé le conseil de Dieu. C'est ainsi qu'on considérait tous les conseils qu'Achithophel donnait, tant à David qu'à Absalom.

In those days the opinions of Ahithophel were valued as highly as if through him a man might get direction from God; so were they valued by David as much as by Absalom.
