2 Chroniques 24
1 Joas était âgé de sept ans quand il commença à régner, et il régna quarante ans à Jérusalem. Sa mère avait nom Tsibia, [et] elle était de Béer-sebah.
Joash was seven years old when he began to reign; and he reigned forty years in Jerusalem: and his mother's name was Zibiah, of Beersheba.
2 Or Joas fit ce qui est droit devant l'Eternel, durant tout le temps de Jéhojadah le Sacrificateur.
Joash did that which was right in the eyes of the LORD all the days of Jehoiada the priest.
3 Et Jéhojadah lui donna deux femmes, desquelles il eut des fils et des filles.
Jehoiada took for him two wives; and he became the father of sons and daughters.
4 Après cela Joas prit à cœur de renouveler la maison de l'Eternel.
It happened after this, that Joash intended to restore the house of the LORD.
5 Et il assembla les Sacrificateurs et les Lévites, et leur dit: Allez par les villes de Juda, et amassez de l'argent de tout Israël, pour réparer la maison de votre Dieu, d'année en année, et hâtez cette affaire; mais les Lévites ne la hâtèrent point.
He gathered together the priests and the Levites, and said to them, "Go out to the cities of Judah, and gather money to repair the house of your God from all Israel from year to year. See that you expedite this matter." However the Levites did not do it right away.
6 Et le Roi appela Jéhojadah le principal [Sacrificateur], et lui dit: Pourquoi n'as-tu pas fait en sorte que les Lévites apportassent de Juda, et de Jérusalem, et de tout Israël, le tribut ordonné par Moïse serviteur de l'Eternel, pour le Tabernacle du Témoignage?
The king called for Jehoiada the chief, and said to him, "Why haven't you required of the Levites to bring in the tax of Moses the servant of the LORD, and of the assembly of Israel, out of Judah and out of Jerusalem, for the tent of the testimony?"
7 Car la méchante Hathalie [et] ses enfants avaient dépouillé la maison de Dieu, et ils avaient même approprié aux Bahalins toutes les choses consacrées à la maison de l'Eternel.
For the sons of Athaliah, that wicked woman, had broken up God's house; and they also gave all the dedicated things of the house of the LORD to the Baals.
8 C'est pourquoi le Roi commanda qu'on fit un coffre, et qu'on le mît à la porte de la maison de l'Eternel en dehors.
So the king commanded, and they made a chest, and set it outside at the gate of the house of the LORD.
9 Puis on publia dans Juda et dans Jérusalem, qu'on apportât à l'Eternel l'impôt que Moïse serviteur de Dieu avait mis dans le désert sur Israël.
They made a proclamation through Judah and Jerusalem, to bring in for the LORD the tax that Moses the servant of God laid on Israel in the wilderness.
10 Et tous les principaux et tout le peuple s'en réjouirent; et ils apportèrent [l'argent], et le jetèrent dans le coffre, jusqu'à ce qu'on eût achevé [de réparer le Temple].
And all the leaders and all the people rejoiced, and brought in, and threw it into the chest, until it was full.
11 Or quand les Lévites emportaient le coffre suivant l'ordre du Roi, ce qu'on faisait dès qu'on voyait qu'il y avait beaucoup d'argent; le Secrétaire du Roi, et le Commis du principal Sacrificateur venaient, et vidaient le coffre, puis ils le reportaient, et le remettaient en sa place Ils faisaient ainsi tous les jours; et on amassa quantité d'argent.
It was so, that whenever the chest was brought to the king's officers by the hand of the Levites, and when they saw that there was much money, the king's scribe and the chief priest's officer came and emptied the chest, and took it, and carried it to its place again. Thus they did day by day, and gathered money in abundance.
12 Et le Roi et Jéhojadah le distribuaient à ceux qui avaient la charge de l'ouvrage du service de la maison de l'Eternel, lesquels louaient des tailleurs de pierres et des charpentiers pour refaire la maison de l'Eternel, et des ouvriers travaillant en fer et en airain pour réparer la maison de l'Eternel.
The king and Jehoiada gave it to such as did the work of the service of the house of the LORD; and they hired masons and carpenters to restore the house of the LORD, and also such as worked iron and bronze to repair the house of the LORD.
13 Ceux donc qui avaient la charge de l'ouvrage travaillèrent, et il fut entièrement achevé par leur moyen, de sorte qu'ils rétablirent la maison de Dieu en son état, et l'affermirent.
So the workmen worked, and the work of repairing went forward in their hands, and they set up God's house in its state, and strengthened it.
14 Et dès qu'ils eurent achevé, ils apportèrent devant le Roi et devant Jéhojadah le reste de l'argent, dont il fit faire des ustensiles pour la maison de l'Eternel; [savoir] des ustensiles pour le service et pour les oblations, et des tasses et d'autres ustensiles d'or et d'argent; et ils offrirent continuellement des holocaustes dans la maison de l'Eternel, durant tout le temps de Jéhojadah.
When they had made an end, they brought the rest of the money before the king and Jehoiada, of which were made vessels for the house of the LORD, even vessels with which to minister and to offer, and spoons, and vessels of gold and silver. They offered burnt offerings in the house of the LORD continually all the days of Jehoiada.
15 Or Jéhojadah étant devenu vieux et rassasié de jours, mourut. Il était âgé de cent trente ans quand il mourut.
But Jehoiada grew old and was full of days, and he died; one hundred thirty years old was he when he died.
16 Et on l'ensevelit en la Cité de David avec les Rois, parce qu'il avait fait du bien en Israël, envers Dieu, et envers sa maison.
They buried him in the City of David among the kings, because he had done good in Israel, and toward God and his house.
17 Mais après que Jéhojadah fut mort, les principaux de Juda vinrent, et se prosternèrent devant le Roi; [et] alors le Roi les écouta.
Now after the death of Jehoiada the leaders of Judah came and paid homage to the king. And the king listened to them.
18 Et ils abandonnèrent la maison de l'Eternel le Dieu de leurs pères, et [s'attachèrent] au service des bocages, et des faux dieux; c'est pourquoi la colère de [l'Eternel s'alluma] contre Juda et contre Jérusalem, parce qu'ils s'étaient rendus coupables en cela.
They forsook the house of the LORD, the God of their fathers, and served the Asherim and the idols: and wrath came on Judah and Jerusalem for this their guiltiness.
19 Et quoiqu'il leur envoyât des Prophètes pour les faire retourner à l'Eternel, et que [ces Prophètes] les [en] sommassent, toutefois ils ne voulurent point écouter.
Yet he sent prophets to them, to bring them again to the LORD; and they testified against them: but they would not give ear.
20 Et même l'Esprit de Dieu revêtit Zacharie fils de Jéhojadah le Sacrificateur, de sorte qu'il se tint debout au dessus du peuple, et leur dit: Dieu a dit ainsi: Pourquoi transgressez-vous les commandements de l'Eternel? Car vous ne prospérerez point; [et] parce que vous avez abandonné l'Eternel, il vous abandonnera aussi.
The Spirit of God came on Zechariah the son of Jehoiada the priest; and he stood above the people, and said to them, "Thus says God, 'Why do you disobey the commandments of the LORD, so that you can't prosper? Because you have forsaken the LORD, he has also forsaken you.'"
21 Et ils se liguèrent contre lui, et l'assommèrent de pierres, par le commandement du Roi, au parvis de la maison de l'Eternel;
They conspired against him, and stoned him with stones at the commandment of the king in the court of the house of the LORD.
22 De sorte que le Roi Joas ne se souvint point de la gratuité dont Jéhojadah, père de Zacharie, avait usé envers lui; mais il tua son fils, qui en mourant dit: Que l'Eternel le voie, et le redemande!
Thus Joash the king did not remember the kindness which Jehoiada his father had done to him, but killed his son. When he died, he said, "May the LORD look at it, and repay it."
23 Et il arriva qu'au bout d'un an l'armée de Syrie monta contre lui, et vint en Juda et à Jérusalem, et [les Syriens] détruisirent d'entre le peuple tous les principaux du peuple, et envoyèrent au Roi à Damas tout leur butin.
It happened at the end of the year, that the army of the Arameans came up against him. And they came to Judah and Jerusalem, and destroyed all the leaders of the people from among the people, and sent all their spoil to the king in Damascus.
24 Et quoique l'armée venue de Syrie fût peu nombreuse, l'Eternel livra pourtant entre leurs mains une très-grosse armée, parce qu'ils avaient abandonné l'Eternel Dieu de leurs pères. Ainsi [les Syriens] mirent Joas pour un exemple de jugement.
For the army of the Arameans came with a small company of men; and the LORD delivered a very great army into their hand, because they had forsaken the LORD, the God of their fathers. So they executed judgment on Joash.
25 Et quand ils se furent retirés d'avec lui, parce qu'ils l'avaient laissé dans de grandes langueurs, ses serviteurs conjurèrent contre lui, à cause du meurtre des fils de Jéhojadah le Sacrificateur, et le tuèrent sur son lit; et ainsi il mourut, et on l'ensevelit en la Cité de David, mais on ne l'ensevelit point aux sépulcres des Rois.
When they were departed for him (for they left him very sick), his own servants conspired against him for the blood of the son of Jehoiada the priest, and killed him on his bed, and he died; and they buried him in the City of David, but they did not bury him in the tombs of the kings.
26 Et ce sont ici ceux qui conjurèrent contre lui, Zabad, fils de Simhat femme Hammonite, et Jéhozabad fils de Simrith femme Moabite.
These are those who conspired against him: Zabad the son of Shimeath the Ammonitess, and Jehozabad the son of Shimrith the Moabitess.
27 Or quant à ses enfants, et à la grande levée de deniers qui avait été faite pour lui, et au rétablissement de la maison de Dieu, voilà, ces choses sont écrites dans les Mémoires du Livre des Rois; et Amatsia son fils régna en sa place.
Now concerning his sons, and the many oracles against him, and the rebuilding of God's house, look, they are written in the commentary of the book of the kings. Amaziah his son reigned in his place.
