2 Chroniques 14
1 Puis Abija s'endormit avec ses pères, et on l'ensevelit dans la Cité de David, et Asa son fils régna en sa place. De son temps le pays fut en repos durant dix ans.
And Abijah slept with his fathers, and they buried him in the city of David. And Asa his son reigned in his stead. In his days the land was quiet ten years.
2 Or Asa fit ce qui est bon et droit devant l'Eternel son Dieu.
And Asa did what was good and right in the sight of Jehovah his God;
3 Car il ôta les autels [des dieux] des étrangers, et les hauts lieux, et brisa les statues, et coupa les bocages.
and he took away the altars of the strange [gods] and the high places, and broke the columns, and cut down the Asherahs;
4 Et il commanda à Juda de rechercher l'Eternel le Dieu de leurs pères, et d'observer la Loi et les Commandements.
and commanded Judah to seek Jehovah the God of their fathers, and to practise the law and the commandment.
5 Et il ôta aussi de toutes les villes de Juda les hauts lieux et les tabernacles; et le Royaume fut en repos sous sa conduite.
And he removed out of all the cities of Judah the high places and the sun-images; and the kingdom was quiet before him.
6 Il bâtit aussi des villes fortes en Juda, parce que le pays était en repos; et pendant ces années-là il n'y eut point de guerre contre lui, parce que l'Eternel lui donnait du repos.
And he built fortified cities in Judah, for the land had rest, and he had no war in those years; because Jehovah had given him rest.
7 Car il dit à Juda: Bâtissons ces villes, et entourons-les de murailles, de tours, de portes, et de barres, pendant que nous sommes maîtres du pays; parce que nous avons invoqué l'Eternel notre Dieu; nous l'avons invoqué, et il nous a donné du repos tout alentour; c'est pourquoi ils bâtirent, et prospérèrent.
And he said to Judah, Let us build these cities, and surround them with walls and towers, gates and bars, while the land is yet before us; for we have sought Jehovah our God; we have sought him, and he has given us rest on every side. And they built and prospered.
8 Or Asa avait en son armée trois cent mille hommes de ceux de Juda, portant le bouclier et la javeline; et deux cent quatre-vingt mille de ceux de Benjamin, portant le bouclier, et tirant de l'arc, tous forts et vaillants.
And Asa had an army that bore targets and spears: out of Judah three hundred thousand; and out of Benjamin, that bore shields and drew the bow, two hundred and eighty thousand: all these, mighty men of valour.
9 Et Zeraph Ethiopien sortait contr'eux avec une armée d'un million [d'hommes], et de trois cents chariots, et il vint jusqu'à Marésa.
And Zerah the Ethiopian came out against him with a host of a thousand thousand, and three hundred chariots, and he came to Mareshah.
10 Et Asa alla au devant de lui, et on rangea la bataille en la vallée de Tséphath, près de Marésa.
And Asa went out against him, and they set the battle in array in the valley of Zephathah near Mareshah.
11 Alors Asa cria à l'Eternel son Dieu, et dit: Eternel! Il ne t'est pas plus difficile d'aider celui qui n'a point de force, que celui qui a des gens en grand nombre. Aide-nous, ô Eternel notre Dieu! car nous nous sommes appuyés sur toi; et nous sommes venus en ton Nom contre cette multitude. Tu es l'Eternel notre Dieu; que l'homme n'ait point de force contre toi!
And Asa cried unto Jehovah his God, and said, Jehovah, it maketh no difference to thee to help, whether there be much or no power: help us, O Jehovah our God, for we rely on thee, and in thy name have we come against this multitude. Jehovah, thou art our God; let not man prevail against thee.
12 Et l'Eternel frappa les Ethiopiens devant Asa et devant Juda; en sorte que les Ethiopiens s'enfuirent.
And Jehovah smote the Ethiopians before Asa and before Judah; and the Ethiopians fled.
13 Et Asa et le peuple qui était avec lui les poursuivirent jusqu'à Guérar; et il tomba tant d'Ethiopiens, qu'ils n'eurent plus aucune force; car ils furent défaits devant l'Eternel, et devant son armée; et on en rapporta un fort grand butin.
And Asa and the people that were with him pursued them to Gerar; and the Ethiopians were overthrown, that none of them was left alive; for they were crushed before Jehovah and before his army. And they carried away very much spoil.
14 Ils frappèrent aussi toutes les villes qui étaient autour de Guérar, parce que la terreur de l'Eternel était sur eux; et ils pillèrent toutes ces villes; car il y avait dans ces villes [de quoi faire] un grand butin.
And they smote all the cities round about Gerar, for the terror of Jehovah came upon them; and they spoiled all the cities, for there was very much spoil in them.
15 Ils abattirent aussi les tentes des troupeaux, et emmenèrent quantité de brebis et de chameaux; après quoi ils s'en retournèrent à Jérusalem.
They smote also the tents of cattle, and carried away sheep and camels in abundance, and returned to Jerusalem.
