1 Samuel 30
1 Or trois jours après David et ses gens étant revenus à Tsiklag, [trouvèrent] que les Hamalécites s'étaient jetés du côté du Midi, et sur Tsiklag, et qu'ils avaient frappé Tsiklag, et l'avaient brûlée;
On the third day David and his men arrived in Ziklag, and the Amalekites had raided the Negev, attacked Ziklag, and burned it down.
2 Et qu'ils avaient fait prisonnières les femmes qui étaient là, sans avoir tué aucun homme, depuis les plus petits jusqu'aux plus grands: mais ils les avaient emmenés, et s'en étaient allés leur chemin.
They had taken captive the women and all who were there, both young and old. They had not killed anyone, but had carried them off as they went on their way.
3 David donc et ses gens revinrent en la ville: et voici elle était brûlée, et leurs femmes, et leurs fils, et leurs filles avaient été faits prisonniers.
When David and his men came to the city, they found it burned down and their wives and sons and daughters taken captive.
4 C'est pourquoi David et le peuple qui était avec lui élevèrent leur voix, et pleurèrent tellement qu'il n'y avait plus en eux de force pour pleurer.
So David and the troops with him lifted up their voices and wept until they had no strength left to weep.
5 Et les deux femmes de David avaient été prises prisonnières, [savoir] Ahinoham de Jizréhel, et Abigaïl [qui avait été] femme de Nabal, lequel était de Carmel.
David’s two wives, Ahinoam of Jezreel and Abigail the widow of Nabal of Carmel, had been taken captive.
6 Mais David fut dans une grande extrémité, parce que le peuple parlait de le lapider; car tout le peuple était outré à cause de leurs fils et de leurs filles; toutefois David se fortifia en l'Eternel son Dieu.
And David was greatly distressed because the people spoke of stoning him, because the soul of every man grieved for his sons and daughters. But David found strength in the LORD his God.
7 Et il dit à Abiathar le Sacrificateur, fils d'Ahimélec: Mets, je te prie, l'Ephod pour moi; et Abiathar mit l'Ephod pour David.
Then David said to Abiathar the priest, the son of Ahimelech, “Bring me the ephod.” So Abiathar brought it to him,
8 Et David consulta l'Eternel, en disant: Poursuivrai-je cette troupe-là; l'atteindrai-je? et il lui répondit: Poursuis-la; car tu ne manqueras point de l'atteindre, et de recouvrer [tout].
and David inquired of the LORD: “Should I pursue these raiders? Will I overtake them?” “Pursue them,” the LORD replied, “for you will surely overtake them and rescue the captives.”
9 David donc s'en alla avec les six cents hommes qui étaient avec lui, et ils arrivèrent au torrent de Bésor, où s'arrêtèrent ceux qui demeuraient en arrière.
So David and his six hundred men went to the Brook of Besor, where some stayed behind
10 Ainsi David et quatre cents hommes firent la poursuite, mais deux cents hommes s'arrêtèrent, qui étaient trop fatigués pour pouvoir passer le torrent de Bésor.
because two hundred men were too exhausted to cross the brook. But David and four hundred men continued in pursuit.
11 Or ayant trouvé un homme Egyptien par les champs, ils l'amenèrent à David, et lui donnèrent du pain, et il mangea, puis ils lui donnèrent de l'eau à boire.
Now his men found an Egyptian in the field and brought him to David. They gave the man water to drink and food to eat—
12 Ils lui donnèrent aussi quelques figues sèches, et deux grappes de raisins secs, et il mangea, et le cœur lui revint; car il y avait trois jours et trois nuits qu'il n'avait point mangé de pain, ni bu d'eau.
a piece of a fig cake and two clusters of raisins. So he ate and was revived, for he had not had any food or water for three days and three nights.
13 Et David lui dit: A qui es-tu? et d'où es-tu? Et il répondit: Je suis un garçon Egyptien, serviteur d'un homme Hamalécite; et mon maître m'a abandonné, parce que je tombai malade il y a trois jours.
Then David asked him, “To whom do you belong, and where are you from?” “I am an Egyptian,” he replied, “the slave of an Amalekite. My master abandoned me three days ago when I fell ill.
14 Nous nous étions jetés du côté du Midi des Keréthiens, et sur ce qui est de Juda, et du côté du Midi de Caleb, et nous avons brûlé Tsiklag par feu.
We raided the Negev of the Cherethites, the territory of Judah, and the Negev of Caleb, and we burned down Ziklag.”
15 Et David lui dit: Me conduiras-tu bien vers cette troupe-là? Et il répondit: Jure-moi par [le nom de] Dieu que tu ne me feras point mourir, et que tu ne me livreras point entre les mains de mon maître, et je te conduirai vers cette troupe-là.
“Will you lead me to these raiders?” David asked. And the man replied, “Swear to me by God that you will not kill me or deliver me into the hand of my master, and I will lead you to them.”
16 Et il le conduisit dans ce lieu-là. Et voici, ils étaient dispersés sur toute la terre, mangeant, buvant, et dansant, à cause de ce grand butin qu'ils avaient pris au pays des Philistins, et au pays de Juda.
So he led David down, and there were the Amalekites spread out over all the land, eating, drinking, and celebrating the great amount of plunder they had taken from the land of the Philistines and the land of Judah.
17 Et David les frappa depuis l'aube du jour jusqu'au soir du lendemain qu'il s'était mis à les poursuivre; et il n'en échappa aucun d'eux, hormis quatre cents jeunes hommes qui montèrent sur des chameaux, et qui s'enfuirent.
And David struck them down from twilight until the evening of the next day. Not a man escaped, except four hundred young men who fled, riding off on camels.
18 Et David recouvra tout ce que les Hamalécites avaient emporté; il recouvra aussi ses deux femmes.
So David recovered everything the Amalekites had taken, including his two wives.
19 Et ils trouvèrent que rien ne leur manquait, depuis le plus petit jusqu'au plus grand, tant des fils que des filles, et du butin, et de tout ce qu'ils leur avaient emporté; David recouvra le tout.
Nothing was missing, young or old, son or daughter, or any of the plunder the Amalekites had taken. David brought everything back.
20 David prit aussi tout le [reste du] gros et du menu bétail, qu'on mena devant les troupeaux [qu'on leur avait pris]; [et] on disait: C'est ici le butin de David.
And he recovered all the flocks and herds, which his men drove ahead of the other livestock, calling out, “This is David’s plunder!”
21 Puis David vint vers les deux cents hommes qui avaient été tellement fatigués qu'ils n'avaient pu marcher après David, qui les avait fait demeurer auprès du torrent de Bésor; et ils sortirent au devant de David, et au devant du peuple qui était avec lui; et David s'étant approché du peuple, il les salua aimablement.
When David came to the two hundred men who had been too exhausted to follow him from the Brook of Besor, they came out to meet him and the troops with him. As David approached the men, he greeted them,
22 Mais tous les mauvais et méchants hommes qui étaient allés avec David, prirent la parole, et dirent: Puisqu'ils ne sont point venus avec nous, nous ne leur donnerons rien du butin que nous avons recouvré, sinon à chacun d'eux sa femme et ses enfants, et qu'ils les emmènent, et s'en aillent.
but all the wicked and worthless men among those who had gone with David said, “Because they did not go with us, we will not share with them the plunder we recovered, except for each man’s wife and children. They may take them and go.”
23 Mais David dit: Mes frères, vous ne ferez pas ainsi de ce que l'Eternel nous a donné, lequel nous a gardés, et a livré entre nos mains la troupe qui était venue contre nous.
But David said, “My brothers, you must not do this with what the LORD has given us. He has protected us and delivered into our hands the raiders who came against us.
24 Qui vous croirait en ce cas-ci? car celui qui demeure au bagage doit avoir autant de part que celui qui descend à la bataille; ils partageront également.
Who will listen to your proposal? The share of the one who went to battle will match the share of the one who stayed with the supplies. They will share alike.”
25 Ce qui fut ainsi pratiqué depuis ce jour-là, et il en fut fait une ordonnance et une loi en Israël, jusqu'à ce jour.
And so it has been from that day forward. David established this statute as an ordinance for Israel to this very day.
26 David donc revint à Tsiklag, et envoya du butin aux Anciens de Juda, [savoir] à ses amis, en disant: Voici, un présent pour vous, du butin des ennemis de l'Eternel.
When David arrived in Ziklag, he sent some of the plunder to his friends, the elders of Judah, saying, “Here is a gift for you from the plunder of the LORD’s enemies.”
27 [Il en envoya] à ceux qui étaient à Béthel, et à ceux qui étaient à Ramoth du Midi, et à ceux qui étaient à Jattir,
He sent gifts to those in Bethel, Ramoth Negev, and Jattir;
28 Et à ceux qui étaient à Haroher, et à ceux qui étaient à Siphamoth, et à ceux qui étaient à Estemoah,
to those in Aroer, Siphmoth, and Eshtemoa;
29 Et à ceux qui étaient à Racal, et à ceux qui étaient dans les villes des Jerahméeliens, et à ceux qui étaient dans les villes des Kéniens,
to those in Racal and in the cities of the Jerahmeelites and Kenites;
30 Et à ceux qui étaient à Horma, et à ceux qui étaient à Cor-hasan, et à ceux qui étaient à Hathac,
to those in Hormah, Bor-ashan, and Athach;
31 Et à ceux qui étaient à Hébron, et dans tous les lieux où David avait demeuré, lui et ses gens.
and to those in Hebron and in all the places where David and his men had roamed.
