1 Samuel 27

1 Mais David dit en son cœur: Certes je périrai un jour par les mains de Saul; ne vaut-il pas mieux que je me sauve au pays des Philistins, afin que Saul n'espère plus de [me trouver], en me cherchant encore en quelqu'une des contrées d'Israël? car je me sauverai ainsi de ses mains.

And David said in his heart: “At some time, I will one day fall into the hands of Saul. Is it not better if I flee, and be saved in the land of the Philistines, so that Saul may despair and cease to seek me in all the parts of Israel? Therefore, I will flee away from his hands.”

2 David donc se leva, lui et les six cents hommes qui étaient avec lui, et il passa vers Akis fils de Mahoc, Roi de Gath.

And David rose up and went away, he and the six hundred men who were with him, to Achish, the son of Maoch, the king of Gath.

3 Et David demeura avec Akis à Gath, lui et ses gens, chacun avec sa famille, David et ses deux femmes; [savoir] Ahinoham, qui était de Jizréhel, et Abigaïl, [qui avait été] femme de Nabal, lequel était de Carmel.

And David lived with Achish at Gath, he and his men: each man with his household, and David with his two wives, Ahinoam, the Jezreelite, and Abigail, the wife of Nabal of Carmel.

4 Alors on rapporta à Saül que David s'en était fui à Gath; ainsi il ne continua plus de le chercher.

And it was reported to Saul that David had fled to Gath. And so, he did not continue to seek him.

5 Or David dit à Akis: Je te prie, si j'ai trouvé grâce devant toi, qu'on me donne quelque lieu dans l'une des villes de la campagne, afin que je demeure là; car pourquoi ton serviteur demeurerait-il dans la ville royale avec toi?

And David said to Achish: “If I have found favor in your eyes, let a place be given to me in one of the cities of this region, so that I may live there. For why should your servant stay in the city of the king with you?”

6 Akis donc lui donna en ce jour-là Tsiklag; c'est pourquoi Tsiklag est demeurée aux Rois de Juda jusqu'à ce jour.

And so, Achish gave Ziklag to him on that day. And for this reason, Ziklag belongs to the kings of Judah, even to this day.

7 Le nombre des jours que David demeura au pays des Philistins fut un an et quatre mois.

Now the number of days that David lived in the region of the Philistines was four months.

8 Or David montait avec ses gens, et ils faisaient des courses sur les Guesuriens, les Guirziens, et les Hamalécites; car ces [nations]-là habitaient au pays où [elles avaient habité] d'ancienneté, depuis Sur jusqu'au pays d'Egypte.

And David and his men went up and took plunder from Geshuri, and from Girzi, and from the Amalekites. For in the land long ago, these were the inhabitants of the area, going from Shur as far as the land of Egypt.

9 Et David désolait ces pays-là, il ne laissait ni homme ni femme en vie, et il prenait les brebis, les bœufs, les ânes, les chameaux, et les vêtements, puis il s'en retournait, et venait vers Akis.

And David struck the entire land. Neither did he leave alive man or woman. And he took away the sheep, and the oxen, and the donkeys, and the camels, and the garments. And he returned and went to Achish.

10 Et Akis disait: Où avez-vous fait vos courses aujourd'hui? Et David répondait: Vers le Midi de Juda, vers le Midi des Jerahméeliens, et vers le Midi des Kéniens.

Then Achish said to him, “Whom did you go out against today?” And David responded, “Against the south of Judah, and against the south of Jerahmeel, and against the south of Keni.”

11 Mais David ne laissait en vie ni homme ni femme pour les amener à Gath, de peur, disait-il, qu'ils ne rapportent [quelque chose] contre nous, en disant: Ainsi a fait David. Et il en usa ainsi pendant tous les jours qu'il demeura au pays des Philistins.

Neither man nor woman was left alive by David. Neither did he lead back any of them to Gath, saying, “Lest perhaps they may speak against us.” David did these things. And this was his decision during all the days that he lived in the region of the Philistines.

12 Et Akis croyait David, et disait: Il s'est mis en mauvaise odeur auprès d'Israël son peuple; c'est pourquoi il sera mon serviteur à jamais.

Therefore, Achish trusted David, saying: “He has worked much harm against his people Israel. And so, he will be a servant to me forever.”
