1 Chroniques 21
1 Mais Satan s'éleva contre Israël, et incita David à faire le dénombrement d'Israël.
And the Accuser stood up against Israel, and incited David to count Israel.
2 Et David dit à Joab et aux principaux du peuple: Allez [et] dénombrez Israël, depuis Béer-sebah jusqu'à Dan, et rapportez-le moi, afin que j'en sache le nombre.
And David said to Joab, and to the princes of the people, Go, number Israel from Beer-sheba' even to Dan, and bring their number to me, that I may know it.
3 Mais Joab répondit: Que l'Eternel veuille augmenter son peuple cent fois autant qu'il est, ô Roi mon Seigneur! tous ne sont-ils pas serviteurs de mon Seigneur? Pourquoi mon Seigneur cherche-t-il cela? [et] pourquoi cela serait-il imputé comme un crime à Israël?
Then said Joab, May the Lord add unto his people, how many soever they be, a hundred-fold more: are they not all, my lord the king, my lord's servants? why then will my lord require this thing? why shall it be a cause of guiltiness for Israel?
4 Mais la parole du Roi l'emporta sur Joab; et Joab partit, et alla par tout Israël; puis il revint à Jérusalem.
Nevertheless the king's word remained firm against Joab; and Joab went out, and moved about throughout all Israel, and came [back] to Jerusalem.
5 Et Joab donna à David le rôle du dénombrement du peuple, et il se trouva de tout Israël onze cent mille hommes tirant l'épée, et de Juda, quatre cent soixante et dix mille hommes, tirant l'épée.
And Joab gave up the sum of the number of the people unto David: and there were [in] all Israel a thousand times thousand and one hundred thousand men that drew the sword: and [of] Judah were four hundred and seventy thousand men that drew the sword.
6 Bien qu'il n'eût pas compté entr'eux Lévi ni Benjamin, parce que Joab exécutait la parole du Roi à contre-cœur.
But Levi and Benjamin did he not count among them: for the king's word was abominable to Joab.
7 Or cette chose déplut à Dieu, c'est pourquoi il frappa Israël.
And this thing was displeasing in the eyes of God, and he smote Israel.
8 Et David dit à Dieu: J'ai commis un très-grand péché d'avoir fait une telle chose; je te prie pardonne maintenant l'iniquité de ton serviteur, car j'ai agi très-follement.
And David said unto God, I have sinned greatly, because I have done this thing; but now, I beseech thee, cause the iniquity of thy servant to pass away; for I have acted very foolishly.
9 Et l'Eternel parla à Gad, le Voyant de David, en disant:
And the Lord spoke unto Gad, David's seer, saying,
10 Va, parle à David, et lui dis: Ainsi a dit l'Eternel, je te propose trois choses; choisis l'une d'elles, afin que je te la fasse.
Go and speak unto David, saying, Thus hath said the Lord, Three things do I offer thee: choose for thyself one of them, and I will do it unto thee.
11 Et Gad vint à David, et lui dit: Ainsi a dit l'Eternel:
So Gad came to David, and said unto him, Thus hath said the Lord, Select for thyself,
12 Choisis ou la famine durant l'espace de trois ans; ou d'être consumé, durant trois mois, étant poursuivi de tes ennemis, en sorte que l'épée de tes ennemis t'atteigne; ou que l'épée de l'Eternel, c'est-à-dire, la mortalité, soit durant trois jours sur le pays, et que l'Ange de l'Eternel fasse le dégât dans toutes les contrées d'Israël. Maintenant donc regarde ce que j'aurai à répondre à celui qui m'a envoyé.
Whether there shall be three years famine; or three months, to be destroyed before thy adversaries, so that the sword of thy enemies overtake thee; or that during three days the sword of the Lord, even the pestilence, shall be in the land, and an angel of the Lord destroying throughout all the boundaries of Israel? And now reflect what word I shall bring back to him that hath sent me.
13 Alors David répondit à Gad: Je suis dans une très-grande angoisse; que je tombe, je te prie, entre les mains de l'Eternel, parce que ses compassions sont en très grand nombre; mais que je ne tombe point entre les mains des hommes!
And David said unto Gad, I am in a great strait: let me fall then into the hand of the Lord; for his mercies are very great; but let me not fall into the hand of man.
14 L'Eternel envoya donc la mortalité sur Israël; et il tomba soixante et dix mille hommes d'Israël.
So the Lord sent a pestilence in Israel, and there fell of Israel seventy thousand men.
15 Dieu envoya aussi l'Ange à Jérusalem pour y faire le dégât; et comme il faisait le dégât, l'Eternel regarda, [et] se repentit de ce mal; et il dit à l'Ange qui faisait le dégât: C'est assez; retire à présent ta main. Et l'Ange de l'Eternel était auprès de l'aire d'Ornan Jébusien.
And God sent an angel unto Jerusalem to destroy it; but as he was destroying, the Lord looked on, and he bethought himself of the evil, and said to the angel that destroyed, It is enough: now stay thy hand. And the angel of the Lord was standing by the threshing-floor of Ornan the Jebusite.
16 Or David élevant ses yeux vit l'Ange de l'Eternel qui était entre la terre et le ciel, ayant dans sa main son épée nue, tournée contre Jérusalem. Et David et les Anciens couverts de sacs, tombèrent sur leurs faces.
And David lifted up his eyes, and saw the angel of the Lord standing between the earth and the heavens, with his sword drawn in his hand, stretched out over Jerusalem. Then fell David, with the elders wrapt in sackcloth, upon their faces.
17 Et David dit à Dieu: N'est-ce pas moi qui ai commandé qu'on fit le dénombrement du peuple? c'est donc moi qui ai péché et qui ai très-mal agi; mais ces brebis qu'ont-elles fait? Eternel mon Dieu! je te prie que ta main soit contre moi, et contre la maison de mon père, mais qu'elle ne soit pas contre ton peuple, pour le détruire.
And David said unto God, Was it not I that ordered to count the people? and I am the one that have sinned and have done evil indeed; but these sheep, what have they done? O Lord my God, let thy hand, I pray thee, be against me, and against my father's house, but not against thy people, that there should be a plague.
18 Alors l'Ange de l'Eternel commanda à Gad de dire à David, qu'il montât pour dresser un autel à l'Eternel, dans l'aire d'Ornan Jébusien.
And the angel of the Lord spoke to Gad to say to David, that David should go up, to erect an altar unto the Lord on the threshing-floor of Ornan the Jebusite.
19 David donc monta selon la parole que Gad [lui] avait dite au nom de l'Eternel.
And David went up by the word of Gad, which he had spoken in the name of the Lord.
20 Et Ornan s'étant retourné, et ayant vu l'Ange, se tenait caché avec ses quatre fils. Or Ornan foulait du blé.
And when Ornan turned back, and saw the angel, then did he and his four sons with him hide themselves. Now Ornan was threshing wheat.
21 Et David vint jusqu'à Ornan; et Ornan regarda, et ayant vu David, il sortit de l'aire, et se prosterna devant lui, le visage en terre.
And as David came up to Ornan, Ornan looked up and saw David; and he went out of the threshing-floor, and bowed himself to David with his face to the ground.
22 Et David dit à Ornan: Donne-moi la place de cette aire, et j'y bâtirai un autel à l'Eternel; donne-la-moi pour le prix qu'elle vaut, afin que cette plaie soit arrêtée de dessus le peuple.
Then said David to Ornan, “Grant me the site of this threshing-floor, that I may build thereon an altar unto the Lord: for the full price shalt thou give it unto me, so that the plague may be stayed from the people.”
23 Et Ornan dit à David: Prends-la, et que le Roi mon Seigneur fasse tout ce qui lui semblera bon. Voici, je donne ces bœufs pour les holocaustes, et ces instruments à fouler du blé, au lieu de bois, et ce blé pour le gâteau; je donne toutes ces choses.
And Ornan said unto David, Take it for thyself, and let my lord the king do what is good in his eyes: lo, I give the oxen for burnt-offerings, and the threshing-rollers for wood, and the wheat for the meat-offering; the whole do I give [thee].
24 Mais le Roi David lui répondit: Non; mais certainement j'achèterai [tout] cela au prix qu'il vaut; car je ne présenterai point à l'Eternel ce qui est à toi, et je n'offrirai point un holocauste d'une chose que j'aie eue pour rien.
And king David said to Ornan, No: but I will surely buy it at the full value; for I will not take what is thine for the Lord, so as to offer burnt-offerings without paying therefore.
25 David donna donc à Ornan pour cette place, six cents sicles d'or de poids.
So David gave to Ornan for the place six hundred shekels of gold by weight.
26 Puis il bâtit là un autel à l'Eternel, et il offrit des holocaustes, et des sacrifices de prospérités, et il invoqua l'Eternel, qui l'exauça par le feu envoyé des cieux sur l'autel de l'holocauste.
And David built there an altar unto the Lord, and offered burnt-offerings and peace-offerings, and he called on the Lord: and he answered him from heaven by fire upon the altar of burnt-offering.
27 Alors l'Eternel commanda à l'Ange; et l'Ange remit son épée dans son fourreau.
And the Lord spoke to the angel, and he put back his sword into its sheath.
28 En ce temps-là David voyant que l'Eternel l'avait exaucé dans l'aire d'Ornan Jébusien, y sacrifia.
At that time when David saw that the Lord had answered him on the threshing-floor of Ornan the Jebusite, then did he sacrifice there.
29 [Or] le pavillon de l'Eternel que Moïse avait fait au désert, et l'autel des holocaustes étaient en ce temps-là dans le haut lieu de Gabaon.
But the tabernacle of the Lord, which Moses had made in the wilderness, and the altar of the burnt-offering, were at that time in the high-place at Gib'on.
30 Mais David ne put point aller devant cet autel pour invoquer Dieu, parce qu'il avait été troublé à cause de l'épée de l'Ange de l'Eternel.
But David was not able to go before it to inquire of God; for he was afraid because of the sword of the angel of the Lord.
