Matthieu 25
1 Alors le royaume des cieux sera semblable à dix vierges qui, ayant pris leurs lampes, allèrent à la rencontre de l’époux.
"Then will the Kingdom of the Heavens be found to be like ten bridesmaids who took their torches and went out to meet the bridegroom.
2 Cinq d’entre elles étaient folles, et cinq sages.
Five of them were foolish and five were wise.
3 Les folles, en prenant leurs lampes, ne prirent point d’huile avec elles;
For the foolish, when they took their torches, did not provide themselves with oil;
4 mais les sages prirent, avec leurs lampes, de l’huile dans des vases.
but the wise, besides their torches, took oil in their flasks.
5 Comme l’époux tardait, toutes s’assoupirent et s’endormirent.
The bridegroom was a long time in coming, so that meanwhile they all became drowsy and fell asleep.
6 Au milieu de la nuit, on cria: Voici l’époux, allez à sa rencontre!
But at midnight there is a loud cry, "'The bridegroom! Go out and meet him!'
7 Alors toutes ces vierges se réveillèrent, et préparèrent leurs lampes.
"Then all those bridesmaids roused themselves and trimmed their torches.
8 Les folles dirent aux sages: Donnez-nous de votre huile, car nos lampes s’éteignent.
"'Give us some of your oil,' said the foolish ones to the wise, 'for our torches are going out.'
9 Les sages répondirent: Non; il n’y en aurait pas assez pour nous et pour vous; allez plutôt chez ceux qui en vendent, et achetez-en pour vous.
"'But perhaps,' replied the wise, 'there will not be enough for all of us. Go to the shops rather, and buy some for yourselves.'
10 Pendant qu’elles allaient en acheter, l’époux arriva; celles qui étaient prêtes entrèrent avec lui dans la salle des noces, et la porte fut fermée.
"So they went to buy. But meanwhile the bridegroom came; those bridesmaids who were ready went in with him to the wedding banquet; and the door was shut.
11 Plus tard, les autres vierges vinrent, et dirent: Seigneur, Seigneur, ouvre-nous.
"Afterwards the other bridesmaids came and cried, "'Sir, Sir, open the door to us.'
12 Mais il répondit: Je vous le dis en vérité, je ne vousconnais pas.
"'In solemn truth I tell you,' he replied, 'I do not know you.'
13 Veillez donc, puisque vous ne savez ni le jour, ni l’heure.
"Keep awake therefore; for you know neither the day nor the hour.
14 Il en sera comme d’un homme qui, partant pour un voyage, appela ses serviteurs, et leur remit ses biens.
"Why, it is like a man who, when going on his travels, called his bondservants and entrusted his property to their care.
15 Il donna cinq talents à l’un, deux à l’autre, et un au troisième, à chacun selon sa capacité, et il partit.
To one he gave five talents, to another two, to another one--to each according to his individual capacity; and then started from home.
16 Aussitôt celui qui avait reçu les cinq talents s’en alla, les fit valoir, et il gagna cinq autres talents.
Without delay the one who had received the five talents went and employed them in business, and gained five more.
17 De même, celui qui avait reçu les deux talents en gagna deux autres.
In the same way he who had the two gained two more.
18 Celui qui n’en avait reçu qu’un alla faire un creux dans la terre, et cacha l’argent de son maître.
But the man who had received the one went and dug a hole and buried his master's money.
19 Longtemps après, le maître de ces serviteurs revint, et leur fit rendre compte.
"After a long lapse of time the master of those servants returned, and had a reckoning with them.
20 Celui qui avait reçu les cinq talents s’approcha, en apportant cinq autres talents, et il dit: Seigneur, tu m’as remis cinq talents; voici, j’en ai gagné cinq autres.
The one who had received the five talents came and brought five more, and said, "'Sir, it was five talents that you entrusted to me: see, I have gained five more.'
21 Son maître lui dit: C’est bien, bon et fidèle serviteur; tu as été fidèle enpeu de chose, je te confierai beaucoup; entre dans la joie de ton maître.
"'You have done well, good and trustworthy servant,' replied his master; 'you have been trustworthy in the management of a little, I will put you in charge of much: share your master's joy.'
22 Celui qui avait reçu les deux talents s’approcha aussi, et il dit: Seigneur, tu m’as remis deux talents; voici, j’en ai gagné deux autres.
"The second, who had received the two talents, came and said, "'Sir, it was two talents you entrusted to me: see, I have gained two more.'
23 Son maître lui dit: C’est bien, bon et fidèle serviteur; tu as été fidèle en peu de chose, je te confierai beaucoup; entre dans la joie de ton maître.
"'Good and trustworthy servant, you have done well,' his master replied; 'you have been trustworthy in the management of a little, I will put you in charge of much: share your master's joy.'
24 Celui qui n’avait reçu qu’un talent s’approcha ensuite, et il dit: Seigneur, je savais que tu es un homme dur, qui moissonnes où tu n’as pas semé, et qui amasses où tu n’as pas vanné;
"But, next, the man who had the one talent in his keeping came and said, "'Sir, I knew you to be a severe man, reaping where you had not sown and garnering what you had not winnowed.
25 j’ai eu peur, et je suis allé cacher ton talent dans la terre; voici, prends ce qui est à toi.
So being afraid I went and buried your talent in the ground: there you have what belongs to you.'
26 Son maître lui répondit: Serviteur méchant et paresseux, tu savais que je moissonne où je n’ai pas semé, et que j’amasse où je n’ai pas vanné;
"'You wicked and slothful servant,' replied his master, 'did you know that I reap where I have not sown, and garner what I have not winnowed?
27 il te fallait donc remettre mon argent aux banquiers, et, à mon retour, j’aurais retiré ce qui est à moi avec un intérêt.
Your duty then was to deposit my money in some bank, and so when I came I should have got back my property with interest.
28 Otez-lui donc le talent, et donnez-le à celui qui a les dix talents.
So take away the talent from him, and give it to the man who has the ten.'
29 Car on donnera à celui qui a, et il sera dans l’abondance, mais à celui qui n’a pas on ôtera même ce qu’il a.
(For to every one who has, more shall be given, and he shall have abundance; but from him who has nothing, even what he has shall be taken away.)
30 Et le serviteur inutile, jetez-le dans les ténèbres du dehors, où il y aura des pleurs et des grincements de dents.
'But as for this worthless servant, put him out into the darkness outside: there will be the weeping and the gnashing of teeth.'
31 Lorsque le Fils de l’homme viendra dans sa gloire, avec tous les anges, il s’assiéra sur letrône de sa gloire.
"When the Son of Man comes in His glory, and all the angels with Him, then will He sit upon His glorious throne,
32 Toutes les nations seront assemblées devant lui. Il séparera les uns d’avec les autres, comme le berger sépare les brebis d’avec les boucs;
and all the nations will be gathered into His presence. And He will separate them from one another, just as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats;
33 et il mettra les brebis à sa droite, et les boucs à sa gauche.
and will make the sheep stand at His right hand, and the goats at His left.
34 Alors le roi dira à ceux qui seront à sa droite: Venez, vous qui êtes bénis de mon Père; prenez possession du royaumequi vous a été préparé dès la fondation du monde.
"Then the King will say to those at His right, "'Come, my Father's blessed ones, receive your inheritance of the Kingdom which has been divinely intended for you ever since the creation of the world.
35 Car j’ai eu faim, et vous m’avez donné à manger; j’ai eu soif, et vous m’avez donné à boire; j’étais étranger, et vous m’avez recueilli;
For when I was hungry, you gave me food; when I was thirsty, you gave me drink; when I was homeless, you gave me a welcome;
36 j’étaisnu, et vous m’avez vêtu; j’étais malade, et vous m’avez visité; j’étaisen prison, et vous êtes venus vers moi.
when I was ill-clad, you clothed me; when I was sick, you visited me; when I was in prison, you came to see me.'
37 Les justes lui répondront: Seigneur, quand t’avons-nous vu avoir faim, et t’avons-nous donné à manger; ou avoir soif, et t’avons-nous donné à boire?
"'When, Lord,' the righteous will reply, 'did we see Thee hungry, and feed Thee; or thirsty, and give Thee drink?
38 Quand t’avons-nous vu étranger, et t’avons-nous recueilli; ou nu, et t’avons-nous vêtu?
When did we see Thee homeless, and give Thee a welcome? or ill-clad, and clothe Thee?
39 Quand t’avons-nous vu malade, ou en prison, et sommes-nous allés vers toi?
When did we see Thee sick or in prison, and come to see Thee?'
40 Et le roi leur répondra: Je vous le dis en vérité, toutes les fois que vous avez fait ces choses à l’un de ces plus petits de mes frères, c’est à moi que vous les avez faites.
"But the King will answer them, "'In solemn truth I tell you that in so far as you rendered such services to one of the humblest of these my brethren, you rendered them to myself.'
41 Ensuite il dira à ceux qui seront à sa gauche: Retirez-vous de moi, maudits; allez dans le feu éternel qui a été préparé pour le diable et pour ses anges. (aiōnios g166)
"Then will He say to those at His left, "'Begone from me, with the curse resting upon you, into the Fire of the Ages, which has been prepared for the Devil and his angels. (aiōnios g166)
42 Car j’ai eu faim, et vous ne m’avez pas donné à manger; j’ai eu soif, et vous ne m’avez pas donné à boire;
For when I was hungry, you gave me nothing to eat; when thirsty, you gave me nothing to drink;
43 j’étais étranger, et vous ne m’avez pas recueilli; j’étais nu, et vous ne m’avez pas vêtu; j’étais malade et en prison, et vous ne m’avez pas visité.
when homeless, you gave me no welcome; ill-clad, you clothed me not; sick or in prison, you visited me not.'
44 Ils répondront aussi: Seigneur, quand t’avons-nous vu ayant faim, ou ayant soif, ou étranger, ou nu, ou malade, ou en prison, et ne t’avons-nous pas assisté?
"Then will they also answer, "'Lord, when did we see Thee hungry or thirsty or homeless or ill-clad or sick or in prison, and not come to serve Thee?'
45 Et il leur répondra: Je vous le dis en vérité, toutes les fois que vous n’avez pas fait ces choses à l’un de ces plus petits, c’est à moi que vous ne les avez pas faites.
"But he will reply, "'In solemn truth I tell you that in so far as you withheld such services from one of the humblest of these, you withheld them from me.'
