1 La seconde part échut par le sort à Siméon, à la tribu des fils de Siméon, selon leurs familles. Leur héritage était au milieu de l’héritage des fils de Juda.
The second/next tribe that was allotted land was the tribe of Simeon. Each clan in that tribe was allotted some land that was inside the area that had been allotted to the tribe of Judah.
2 Ils eurent dans leur héritage: Beer-Schéba, Schéba, Molada,
Their land included the towns of Beersheba ([which is also named] Sheba), Moladah,
3 Hatsar-Schual, Bala, Atsem,
Hazar-Shual, Balah, Ezem,
4 Eltholad, Bethul, Horma,
Eltolad, Bethul, Hormah,
5 Tsiklag, Beth-Marcaboth, Hatsar-Susa,
Ziklag, Beth-Marcaboth. Hazar-Susah,
6 Beth-Lebaoth et Scharuchen, treize villes, et leurs villages;
Beth-Lebaoth, and Sharuhen. Altogether there were 13 towns and the surrounding villages.
7 Aïn, Rimmon, Éther, et Aschan, quatre villes, et leurs villages;
The land allotted to them also included the four cities of Ain, Rimmon, Ether, and Ashan, and their surrounding villages.
8 et tous les villages aux environs de ces villes, jusqu’à Baalath-Beer, qui est Ramath du midi. Tel fut l’héritage de la tribu des fils de Siméon, selon leurs familles.
They were also allotted some very small villages in an area that extended south to Baalath-Beer (which is [also named] Ramah, in the southern desert). That was the land allotted to the clans of the tribe of Simeon.
9 L’héritage des fils de Siméon fut pris sur la portion des fils de Juda; car la portion des fils de Juda était trop grande pour eux, et c’est au milieu de leur héritage que les fils de Siméon reçurent le leur.
The tribe of Judah had been allotted much more land than they needed, so part of their land was given to the tribe of Simeon.
10 La troisième part échut par le sort aux fils de Zabulon, selon leurs familles.
The third/next tribe that was allotted land was the tribe of Zebulun. Each clan of that tribe was allotted some of the land. The southern border started at Sarid [city].
11 La limite de leur héritage s’étendait jusqu’à Sarid. Elle montait à l’occident vers Mareala, et touchait à Dabbéscheth, puis au torrent qui coule devant Jokneam.
It extended west to Maralah [city] and on to Dabbesheth [city], and on to the brook just north of Jokneam [city].
12 De Sarid elle tournait à l’orient, vers le soleil levant, jusqu’à la frontière de Kisloth-Thabor, continuait à Dabrath, et montait à Japhia.
The border extended east from Sarid to the area near Kisloth-Tabor [city] and on to Daberath [town] and on to Japhia [town].
13 De là elle passait à l’orient par Guittha-Hépher, par Ittha-Katsin, continuait à Rimmon, et se prolongeait jusqu’à Néa.
From there it extended east to Gath-Hepher [city] and Eth-Kazin [town], and north to Rimmon [city]. From there the border extended [west] to Neah [town].
14 Elle tournait ensuite du côté du nord vers Hannathon, et aboutissait à la vallée de Jiphthach-El.
From Neah it extended south to Hannathon [city] and from there to Iphtah-El Valley.
15 De plus, Katthath, Nahalal, Schimron, Jideala, Bethléhem. Douze villes, et leurs villages.
Their area included the towns of Kattath, Nahalal, Shimron, Idalah, and Bethlehem. Altogether there were twelve towns and the surrounding villages.
16 Tel fut l’héritage des fils de Zabulon, selon leurs familles, ces villes-là et leurs villages.
That was the land that was allotted to the clans of the tribe of Zebulun.
17 La quatrième part échut par le sort à Issacar, aux fils d’Issacar, selon leurs familles.
The fourth/next tribe that was allotted land was the tribe of Issachar. Each of the clans of that tribe was allotted some of the land.
18 Leur limite passait par Jizreel, Kesulloth, Sunem,
Their land included the cities of Jezreel, Kesulloth, Shunem,
19 Hapharaïm, Schion, Anacharath,
Hapharaim, Shion, Anaharath,
20 Rabbith, Kischjon, Abets,
Rabbith, Kishion, Ebez,
21 Rémeth, En-Gannim, En-Hadda, et Beth-Patsets;
Remeth, En-Gannim, En-Haddah, and Beth-Pazzez.
22 elle touchait à Thabor, à Schachatsima, à Beth-Schémesch, et aboutissait au Jourdain. Seize villes, et leurs villages.
The border of the area that was allotted to the tribe of Issachar was close to Tabor, Shahazumah, and Beth-Shemesh [cities], and ended [in the east] at the Jordan [River]. Altogether there were 16 cities and the surrounding villages.
23 Tel fut l’héritage de la tribu des fils d’Issacar, selon leurs familles, ces villes-là et leurs villages.
Those cities and villages were in the land allotted to the clans of the tribe of Issachar.
24 La cinquième part échut par le sort à la tribu des fils d’Aser, selon leurs familles.
The fifth/next tribe that was allotted land was the tribe of Asher. Each of the clans in that tribe was allotted some of the land.
25 Leur limite passait par Helkath, Hali, Béthen, Acschaph,
Their land included the towns of Helkath, Hali, Beten, Acshaph,
26 Allammélec, Amead et Mischeal; elle touchait, vers l’occident, au Carmel et au Schichor-Libnath;
Allammelech, Amad, and Mishal. The western border started at Carmel [Mountain] and Shihor-Libnath.
27 puis elle tournait du côté de l’orient à Beth-Dagon, atteignait Zabulon et la vallée de Jiphthach-El au nord de Beth-Émek et de Neïel, et se prolongeait vers Cabul, à gauche,
From there it extended [southeast] to Beth-Dagon [town], and then to [the area that was allotted to the tribe of] Zebulun and Iphtah-El Valley. From there the border extended east and then north to Beth-Emek [town] and Neiel and Cabul [towns].
28 et vers Ébron, Rehob, Hammon et Kana, jusqu’à Sidon la grande.
From there it extended west to Abdon, Rehob, Hammon, and Kanah [cities], and continued to Sidon, which is a big city.
29 Elle tournait ensuite vers Rama jusqu’à la ville forte de Tyr, et vers Hosa, pour aboutir à la mer, par la contrée d’Aczib.
From there the border extended south toward Ramah and to the big city of Tyre that had strong walls around it. From there the border extended [west] to Hosah [town] and ended at the [Mediterranean] Sea. Within their area were the towns of Aczib,
30 De plus, Umma, Aphek et Rehob. Vingt-deux villes, et leurs villages.
Ummah, Aphek, and Rehob. Altogether there were 22 towns and their surrounding villages.
31 Tel fut l’héritage de la tribu des fils d’Aser, selon leurs familles, ces villes-là et leurs villages.
Those cities and villages were within the land that was allotted to the clans of the tribe of Asher.
32 La sixième part échut par le sort aux fils de Nephthali, selon leurs familles.
The sixth/next tribe that was allotted land was the tribe of Naphtali. Each of the clans in that tribe was allotted some of the land.
33 Leur limite s’étendait depuis Héleph, depuis Allon, par Tsaanannim, Adami-Nékeb et Jabneel, jusqu’à Lakkum, et elle aboutissait au Jourdain.
The border of their land started [in the west] at the [huge] oak tree at Zaanannim, near Heleph [town]. It extended [east] through Adami-Nekeb [city] and Jabneel, and then to Lakkum, and ended at the Jordan [River].
34 Elle tournait vers l’occident à Aznoth-Thabor, et de là continuait à Hukkok; elle touchait à Zabulon du côté du midi, à Aser du côté de l’occident, et à Juda; le Jourdain était du côté de l’orient.
The western boundary extended through Aznoth-Tabor as far as Hukkok [city]. It extended to the borders of [the tribe of] Zebulun at the south, to [the border of the tribe of] Asher on the west, and the Jordan [River] at the east.
35 Les villes fortes étaient: Tsiddim, Tser, Hammath, Rakkath, Kinnéreth,
[Within their land were] several cities with strong walls around them. They were Ziddim, Zer, Hammath, Rakkath, Kinnereth,
37 Kédesch, Édréï, En-Hatsor,
Kedesh, Edrei, En-Hazor,
38 Jireon, Migdal-El, Horem, Beth-Anath et Beth-Schémesch. Dix-neuf villes, et leurs villages.
Iron, Migdal-El, Horem, Beth-Anath, and Beth-Shemesh. Altogether there were 19 cities and the surrounding villages.
39 Tel fut l’héritage de la tribu des fils de Nephthali, selon leurs familles, ces villes-là et leurs villages.
Those cities and surrounding villages were in the land that was allotted to the clans of the tribe of Naphtali.
40 La septième part échut par le sort à la tribu des fils de Dan, selon leurs familles.
The seventh/last tribe that was allotted land was the tribe of Dan. Each of the clans in that tribe was allotted some of the land.
41 La limite de leur héritage comprenait Tsorea, Eschthaol, Ir-Schémesch,
Their land included the towns of Zorah, Eshtaol, Ir-Shemesh,
42 Schaalabbin, Ajalon, Jithla,
Shaalabbin, Aijalon, Ithlah,
43 Élon, Thimnatha, Ékron,
Elon, Timnah, Ekron,
44 Eltheké, Guibbethon, Baalath,
Eltekeh, Gibbethon, Baalath,
45 Jehud, Bené-Berak, Gath-Rimmon,
Jehud, Bene-Berak, Gath-Rimmon,
46 Mé-Jarkon et Rakkon, avec le territoire vis-à-vis de Japho.
Me-Jarkon, Rakkon, and the area near Joppa.
47 Le territoire des fils de Dan s’étendait hors de chez eux. Les fils de Dan montèrent et combattirent contre Léschem; ils s’en emparèrent et la frappèrent du tranchant de l’épée; ils en prirent possession, s’y établirent, et l’appelèrent Dan, du nom de Dan, leur père.
But the people of the tribe of Dan were unable to take control of the land that had been allotted to them. So they went [northeast] and fought against the people in Leshem [city]. They defeated and killed all the people who lived there. Then they began to live in Leshem, and changed the name of the city to Dan, the man from whom their tribe descended.
48 Tel fut l’héritage de la tribu des fils de Dan, selon leurs familles, ces villes-là et leurs villages.
All of those towns and surrounding villages were in the land that was allotted to the clans in the tribe of Dan.
49 Lorsqu’ils eurent achevé de faire le partage du pays, d’après ses limites, les enfants d’Israël donnèrent à Josué, fils de Nun, une possession au milieu d’eux.
After the Israeli leaders divided the land among the tribes, they allotted some land to Joshua.
50 Selon l’ordre de l’Éternel, ils lui donnèrent la ville qu’il demanda, Thimnath-Sérach, dans la montagne d’Éphraïm. Il rebâtit la ville, et y fit sa demeure.
They allotted to him Timnath-Serah. Yahweh had said that he could have whatever city he wanted, and that was the city that he chose. It was in the hilly region which was allotted to the tribe of Ephraim. Joshua rebuilt the city and lived there.
51 Tels sont les héritages que le sacrificateur Éléazar, Josué, fils de Nun, et les chefs de famille des tribus des enfants d’Israël, distribuèrent par le sort devant l’Éternel à Silo, à l’entrée de la tente d’assignation. Ils achevèrent ainsi le partage du pays.
Those were the areas that were allotted to the various tribes of Israel. Eleazar the Supreme Priest and Joshua and the leaders of each tribe divided up the land while they were all at Shiloh, by (casting lots/throwing marked stones) [to decide which area each tribe would receive]. They did that while Yahweh was watching, at the entrance of the Sacred Tent. In that way they completed dividing up the land.
