Jean 3
1 Mais il y eut un homme d’entre les pharisiens, nommé Nicodème, un chef des Juifs,
NOW there was a man of the Pharisees, whose name was Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews:
2 qui vint, lui, auprès de Jésus, de nuit, et lui dit: Rabbi, nous savons que tu es un docteur venu de Dieu; car personne ne peut faire ces miracles que tu fais, si Dieu n’est avec lui.
this man came to Jesus in the night, and said to him, Rabbi, we know that thou art a teacher come from God: for no man can do these miracles which thou dost, unless God be with him.
3 Jésus lui répondit: En vérité, en vérité, je te le dis, si un homme ne naît de nouveau, il ne peut voir le royaume de Dieu.
Jesus answered and said to him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.
4 Nicodème lui dit: Comment un homme peut-il naître quand il est vieux? Peut-il rentrer dans le sein de sa mère et naître?
Nicodemus saith unto him, How can a man be born when he is old? can he enter a second time into his mother’s womb, and be born?
5 Jésus répondit: En vérité, en vérité, je te le dis, si un homme ne naît d’eau et d’Esprit, il ne peut entrer dans le royaume de Dieu.
Jesus replied, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God.
6 Ce qui est né de la chair est chair, et ce qui est né de l’Esprit est esprit.
That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.
7 Ne t’étonne pas que je t’aie dit: Il faut que vous naissiez de nouveau.
Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again.
8 Le vent souffle où il veut, et tu en entends le bruit; mais tu ne sais d’où il vient, ni où il va. Il en est ainsi de tout homme qui est né de l’Esprit.
The wind bloweth where it will, and thou hearest the sound of it, but knowest not from whence it cometh, nor whither it goeth: just so is every one who is born of the Spirit.
9 Nicodème lui dit: Comment cela peut-il se faire?
Nicodemus answered and said unto him, How can these things be?
10 Jésus lui répondit: Tu es le docteur d’Israël, et tu ne sais pas ces choses!
Jesus answered and said to him, Art thou a teacher of Israel, and knowest not these things?
11 En vérité, en vérité, je te le dis, nous disons ce que nous savons, et nous rendons témoignage de ce que nous avons vu; et vous ne recevez pasnotre témoignage.
Verily, verity, I tell thee, That what we know we speak, and what we have seen we affirm; and ye receive not our testimony.
12 Si vous ne croyez pas quand je vous ai parlé des choses terrestres, comment croirez-vous quand je vous parlerai des choses célestes?
If I have told you of earthly things, and ye believe not, how will you believe, if I tell you of heavenly things?
13 Personne n’est monté au ciel, si ce n’est celui qui est descendu du ciel, le Fils de l’homme qui est dans le ciel.
Though no man hath ascended into heaven, except he that descended from heaven, that Son of man the I am in heaven.
14 Et comme Moïse éleva le serpent dans le désert, il faut de même que le Fils de l’homme soit élevé,
And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, in like manner must the Son of man be lifted up:
that every one who believeth on him may not perish, but have life eternal. (aiōnios g166)
16 Car Dieu a tant aimé le monde qu’il a donné son Fils unique, afin que quiconque croit en lui ne périsse point, mais qu’il ait la vie éternelle. (aiōnios g166)
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that every one who believeth in him should not perish, but have life eternal. (aiōnios g166)
17 Dieu, en effet, n’a pas envoyé son Fils dans le monde pour qu’il juge le monde, mais pour que le monde soit sauvé par lui.
For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world by him might be saved.
18 Celui qui croit en lui n’est point jugé; mais celui qui ne croit pas est déjà jugé, parce qu’il n’a pas cru au nom du Fils unique de Dieu.
He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is already under condemnation, because he hath not believed on the name of the only begotten Son of God.
19 Etce jugement c’est que, la lumière étant venue dans le monde, les hommes ont préféré les ténèbres à la lumière, parce que leurs œuvres étaient mauvaises.
Now this is the condemnation, that the light is come into the world, and men loved the darkness rather than the light, because their deeds were evil.
20 Car quiconque fait le mal hait la lumière, et ne vient point à la lumière, de peur que ses œuvres ne soient dévoilées;
For every one whose practices are foul hateth the light, and cometh not to the light, that his actions may not be brought to conviction.
21 mais celui qui agit selon la vérité vient à la lumière, afin que ses œuvres soient manifestées, parce qu’elles sont faites en Dieu.
But he who practices the truth, cometh to the light, that his actions may be evident, as being done for God.
22 Après cela, Jésus, accompagné de ses disciples, se rendit dans la terre de Judée; et là il demeurait avec eux, et il baptisait.
After these things Jesus and his disciples went into the land of Judea; and there he abode with them, and baptised.
23 Jean aussi baptisait à Énon, près de Salim, parce qu’il y avait là beaucoup d’eau; et on y venait pour être baptisé.
Now John also was baptising at Enon, near to Salem, for there were many streams of water there: and they came, and were baptised.
24 Car Jean n’avait pas encore été mis en prison.
For as yet John was not cast into prison.
25 Or, il s’éleva de la part des disciples de Jean une dispute avec un Juif touchant la purification.
Then a dispute arose between the disciples of John and the Jews with regard to purification.
26 Ils vinrent trouver Jean, et lui dirent: Rabbi, celui qui était avec toi au-delà du Jourdain, et à qui tu as rendu témoignage, voici, il baptise, et tous vont à lui.
And they came to John, and said to him, Rabbi, he that was with thee beyond Jordan, to whom thou gavest testimony, lo! this man baptiseth, and all men come to him.
27 Jean répondit: Un homme ne peut recevoir que ce qui lui a été donné du ciel.
John answered and said, A man cannot assume any thing, except it be given him from heaven.
28 Vous-mêmes m’êtes témoins que j’ai dit: Je ne suis pas le Christ, mais j’ai été envoyé devant lui.
Ye yourselves bear me witness, that I said, I am not the Messiah, but that I am sent before him.
29 Celui à qui appartient l’épouse, c’est l’époux; mais l’ami de l’époux, qui se tient là et qui l’entend, éprouve une grande joie à cause de la voix de l’époux: aussi cette joie, qui est la mienne, est parfaite.
It is the bridegroom, who possesses the bride: and the friend of the bridegroom, standing by and hearing him, rejoiceth exceedingly at the bridegroom’s voice: this my joy therefore is fulfilled.
30 Il faut qu’il croisse, et que je diminue.
He must grow great, but I diminutive.
31 Celui qui vient d’en haut est au-dessus de tous; celui qui est de la terre est de la terre, et il parle comme étant de la terre. Celui qui vient du ciel est au-dessus de tous,
He that cometh from above is above all: he whose origin is from earth is of the earth, and speaketh of the earth: he who cometh from heaven is above all.
32 il rend témoignage de ce qu’il a vu et entendu, et personne ne reçoit son témoignage.
And what he hath seen and heard, that he testifieth; though no man receiveth his testimony.
33 Celui qui a reçu son témoignage a certifié que Dieu est vrai;
He that receiveth his testimony hath avouched that God is true.
34 car celui que Dieu a envoyé dit les paroles de Dieu, parce que Dieu ne lui donne pas l’Esprit avec mesure.
For he whom God hath sent speaketh the words of God: for God hath not given the Spirit by measure unto him.
35 Le Père aime le Fils, et il a remis toutes choses entre ses mains.
The Father loveth the Son, and hath given all things into his hand.
36 Celui qui croit au Fils a la vie éternelle; celui qui ne croit pas au Fils ne verra point la vie, mais la colère de Dieu demeure sur lui. (aiōnios g166)
He that believeth on the Son hath life eternal: and he that believeth not on the Son shall not see life: but the wrath of God abideth upon him. (aiōnios g166)
