Job 8
1 Bildad de Schuach prit la parole et dit:
Then Bildad the Shuhite answered and said,
2 Jusqu’à quand veux-tu discourir de la sorte, Et les paroles de ta bouche seront-elles un vent impétueux?
“How long will you say these things? How long will the words of your mouth be a mighty wind?
3 Dieu renverserait-il le droit? Le Tout-Puissant renverserait-il la justice?
Does God pervert justice? Does the Almighty pervert righteousness?
4 Si tes fils ont péché contre lui, Il les a livrés à leur péché.
Your children have sinned against him; we know this, for he gave them into the hand of their sins.
5 Mais toi, si tu as recours à Dieu, Si tu implores le Tout-Puissant;
But suppose you diligently sought God and presented your request to the Almighty.
6 Si tu es juste et droit, Certainement alors il veillera sur toi, Et rendra le bonheur à ton innocente demeure;
If you are pure and upright, then he would surely stir himself on your behalf and restore you to your rightful place.
7 Ton ancienne prospérité semblera peu de chose, Celle qui t’est réservée sera bien plus grande.
Even though your beginning was small, still your final condition would be much greater.
8 Interroge ceux des générations passées, Sois attentif à l’expérience de leurs pères.
Please ask the former generations, and give your attention to what our ancestors learned.
9 Car nous sommes d’hier, et nous ne savons rien, Nos jours sur la terre ne sont qu’une ombre.
(We were only born yesterday and know nothing because our days on earth are a shadow).
10 Ils t’instruiront, ils te parleront, Ils tireront de leur cœur ces sentences:
Will they not teach you and tell you? Will they not speak words from their hearts?
11 Le jonc croît-il sans marais? Le roseau croît-il sans humidité?
Can papyrus grow without a marsh? Can reeds grow without water?
12 Encore vert et sans qu’on le coupe, Il sèche plus vite que toutes les herbes.
While they are still green and not cut down, they wither before any other plant.
13 Ainsi arrive-t-il à tous ceux qui oublient Dieu, Et l’espérance de l’impie périra.
So also are the paths of all who forget God; the hope of the godless will perish.
14 Son assurance est brisée, Son soutien est une toile d’araignée.
His confidence will break apart, and his trust is as weak as a spider's web.
15 Il s’appuie sur sa maison, et elle n’est pas ferme; Il s’y cramponne, et elle ne résiste pas.
He leans on his house, but it will not support him; he takes hold of it, but it does not stand.
16 Dans toute sa vigueur, en plein soleil, Il étend ses rameaux sur son jardin,
Under the sun he is green, and his shoots go out over his entire garden.
17 Il entrelace ses racines parmi les pierres, Il pénètre jusque dans les murailles;
His roots are wrapped about the heaps of stone; they look for good places among the rocks.
18 L’arrache-t-on du lieu qu’il occupe, Ce lieu le renie: Je ne t’ai point connu!
But if this person is destroyed out of his place, then that place will deny him and say, 'I never saw you.'
19 Telles sont les délices que ses voies lui procurent. Puis sur le même sol d’autres s’élèvent après lui.
See, this is the “joy” of such a person's behavior; other plants will sprout out of the same soil in his place.
20 Non, Dieu ne rejette point l’homme intègre, Et il ne protège point les méchants.
See, God will not cast away an innocent man; neither will he take the hand of evildoers.
21 Il remplira ta bouche de cris de joie, Et tes lèvres de chants d’allégresse.
He will yet fill your mouth with laughter, your lips with shouting.
22 Tes ennemis seront couverts de honte; La tente des méchants disparaîtra.
Those who hate you will be clothed with shame; the tent of the wicked will be no more.”
