Job 36
1 Élihu continua et dit:
And Elius further continued, and said,
2 Attends un peu, et je vais poursuivre, Car j’ai des paroles encore pour la cause de Dieu.
Wait for me yet a little while, that I may teach thee: for there is yet speech in me.
3 Je prendrai mes raisons de haut, Et je prouverai la justice de mon créateur.
Having fetched my knowledge from afar, and according to my works,
4 Sois-en sûr, mes discours ne sont pas des mensonges, Mes sentiments devant toi sont sincères.
I will speak just things truly, and thou shalt not unjustly receive unjust words.
5 Dieu est puissant, mais il ne rejette personne; Il est puissant par la force de son intelligence.
But know that the Lord will not cast off an innocent man: being mighty in strength of wisdom,
6 Il ne laisse pas vivre le méchant, Et il fait droit aux malheureux.
he will not by any means save alive the ungodly: and he will grant the judgment of the poor.
7 Il ne détourne pas les yeux de dessus les justes, Il les place sur le trône avec les rois, Il les y fait asseoir pour toujours, afin qu’ils soient élevés.
He will not turn away his eyes from the righteous, but [they shall be] with kings on the throne: and he will establish them in triumph, and they shall be exalted.
8 Viennent-ils à tomber dans les chaînes, Sont-ils pris dans les liens de l’adversité,
But they that are bound in fetters shall be holden in cords of poverty.
9 Il leur dénonce leurs œuvres, Leurs transgressions, leur orgueil;
And he shall recount to them their works, and their transgressions, for such will act with violence.
10 Il les avertit pour leur instruction, Il les exhorte à se détourner de l’iniquité.
But he will hearken to the righteous: and he has said that they shall turn from unrighteousness.
11 S’ils écoutent et se soumettent, Ils achèvent leurs jours dans le bonheur, Leurs années dans la joie.
If they should hear and serve [him], they shall spend their days in prosperity, and their years in honour.
12 S’ils n’écoutent pas, ils périssent par le glaive, Ils expirent dans leur aveuglement.
But he preserves not the ungodly; because they are not willing to know the Lord, and because when reproved they were disobedient.
13 Les impies se livrent à la colère, Ils ne crient pas à Dieu quand il les enchaîne;
And the hypocrites in heart will array wrath [against themselves]; they will not cry, because he has bound them.
14 Ils perdent la vie dans leur jeunesse, Ils meurent comme les débauchés.
Therefore let their soul die in youth, and their life be wounded by messengers [of death].
15 Mais Dieu sauve le malheureux dans sa misère, Et c’est par la souffrance qu’il l’avertit.
Because they afflicted the weak and helpless: and he will vindicate the judgment of the meek.
16 Il te retirera aussi de la détresse, Pour te mettre au large, en pleine liberté, Et ta table sera chargée de mets succulents.
And he has also enticed thee out of the mouth of the enemy:
17 Mais si tu défends ta cause comme un impie, Le châtiment est inséparable de ta cause.
[there is] a deep gulf [and] a rushing stream beneath it, and thy table came down full of fatness. Judgment shall not fail from the righteous;
18 Que l’irritation ne t’entraîne pas à la moquerie, Et que la grandeur de la rançon ne te fasse pas dévier!
but there shall be wrath upon the ungodly, by reason of the ungodliness of the bribes which they received for iniquities.
19 Tes cris suffiraient-ils pour te sortir d’angoisse, Et même toutes les forces que tu pourrais déployer?
Let not [thy] mind willingly turn thee aside from the petition of the feeble that are in distress.
20 Ne soupire pas après la nuit, Qui enlève les peuples de leur place.
And draw not forth all the mighty [men] by night, so that the people should go up instead of them.
21 Garde-toi de te livrer au mal, Car la souffrance t’y dispose.
But take heed lest thou do that which is wrong: for of this thou has made choice because of poverty.
22 Dieu est grand par sa puissance; Qui saurait enseigner comme lui?
Behold, the Mighty One shall prevail by his strength: for who is powerful as he is?
23 Qui lui prescrit ses voies? Qui ose dire: Tu fais mal?
And who is he that examines his works? or who can say, he has wrought injustice?
24 Souviens-toi d’exalter ses œuvres, Que célèbrent tous les hommes.
Remember that his works are great [beyond] those which men have attempted.
25 Tout homme les contemple, Chacun les voit de loin.
Every man has seen in himself, how many mortals are wounded.
26 Dieu est grand, mais sa grandeur nous échappe, Le nombre de ses années est impénétrable.
Behold, the Mighty One is great, and we shall not know [him]: the number of his years is even infinite.
27 Il attire à lui les gouttes d’eau, Il les réduit en vapeur et forme la pluie;
And the drops of rain are numbered by him, and shall be poured out in rain to form a cloud.
28 Les nuages la laissent couler, Ils la répandent sur la foule des hommes.
The ancient [heavens] shall flow, and the clouds overshadow innumerable mortals: he has fixed a time to cattle, and they know the order of rest. [Yet] by all these things thy understanding is not astonished, neither is thy mind disturbed in [thy] body.
29 Et qui comprendra le déchirement de la nuée, Le fracas de sa tente?
And though one should understand the outspreadings of the clouds, [or] the measure of his tabernacle;
30 Voici, il étend autour de lui sa lumière, Et il se cache jusque dans les profondeurs de la mer.
behold he will stretch his bow against him, and he covers the bottom of the sea.
31 Par ces moyens il juge les peuples, Et il donne la nourriture avec abondance.
For by them he will judge the nations: he will give food to him that has strength.
32 Il prend la lumière dans sa main, Il la dirige sur ses adversaires.
He has hidden the light in [his] hands, and given charge concerning it to the interposing [cloud].
33 Il s’annonce par un grondement; Les troupeaux pressentent son approche.
The Lord will declare concerning this [to] his friend: [but there is] a portion also for unrighteousness.
