Job 12
1 Job prit la parole et dit:
Sotheli Joob answeride, and seide,
2 On dirait, en vérité, que le genre humain c’est vous, Et qu’avec vous doit mourir la sagesse.
Therfor ben ye men aloone, that wisdom dwelle with you?
3 J’ai tout aussi bien que vous de l’intelligence, moi, Je ne vous suis point inférieur; Et qui ne sait les choses que vous dites?
And to me is an herte, as and to you, and Y am not lowere than ye; for who knowith not these thingis, whiche ye knowen?
4 Je suis pour mes amis un objet de raillerie, Quand j’implore le secours de Dieu; Le juste, l’innocent, un objet de raillerie!
He that is scorned of his frend, as Y am, schal inwardli clepe God, and God schal here hym; for the symplenesse of a iust man is scorned.
5 Au malheur le mépris! C’est la devise des heureux; A celui dont le pied chancelle est réservé le mépris.
A laumpe is dispisid at the thouytis of riche men, and the laumpe is maad redi to a tyme ordeyned.
6 Il y a paix sous la tente des pillards, Sécurité pour ceux qui offensent Dieu, Pour quiconque se fait un dieu de sa force.
The tabernaclis of robberis ben plenteuouse, `ether ful of goodis; and boldli thei terren God to wraththe, whanne he hath youe alle thingis in to her hondis.
7 Interroge les bêtes, elles t’instruiront, Les oiseaux du ciel, ils te l’apprendront;
No wondur, ax thou beestis, and tho schulen teche thee; and axe thou volatilis of the eir, and tho schulen schewe to thee.
8 Parle à la terre, elle t’instruira; Et les poissons de la mer te le raconteront.
Speke thou to the erthe, and it schal answere thee; and the fischis of the see schulen telle tho thingis.
9 Qui ne reconnaît chez eux la preuve Que la main de l’Éternel a fait toutes choses?
Who knowith not that the hond of the Lord made alle these thingis?
10 Il tient dans sa main l’âme de tout ce qui vit, Le souffle de toute chair d’homme.
In whos hond the soule is of ech lyuynge thing, and the spirit, `that is, resonable soule, of ech fleisch of man.
11 L’oreille ne discerne-t-elle pas les paroles, Comme le palais savoure les aliments?
Whether the eere demeth not wordis, and the chekis of the etere demen sauour?
12 Dans les vieillards se trouve la sagesse, Et dans une longue vie l’intelligence.
Wisdom is in elde men, and prudence is in myche tyme.
13 En Dieu résident la sagesse et la puissance. Le conseil et l’intelligence lui appartiennent.
Wisdom and strengthe is at God; he hath counsel and vndurstondyng.
14 Ce qu’il renverse ne sera point rebâti, Celui qu’il enferme ne sera point délivré.
If he distrieth, no man is that bildith; if he schittith in a man, `noon is that openith.
15 Il retient les eaux et tout se dessèche; Il les lâche, et la terre en est dévastée.
If he holdith togidere watris, alle thingis schulen be maad drie; if he sendith out tho watris, tho schulen distrie the erthe.
16 Il possède la force et la prudence; Il maîtrise celui qui s’égare ou fait égarer les autres.
Strengthe and wisdom is at God; he knowith bothe hym that disseyueth and hym that is disseyued.
17 Il emmène captifs les conseillers; Il trouble la raison des juges.
And he bryngith conselours in to a fonned eende, and iugis in to wondryng, ethir astonying.
18 Il délie la ceinture des rois, Il met une corde autour de leurs reins.
He vnbindith the girdil of kyngis, and girdith her reynes with a coorde.
19 Il emmène captifs les sacrificateurs; Il fait tomber les puissants.
He ledith her prestis with out glorie, and he disseyueth the principal men, `ethir counselours;
20 Il ôte la parole à ceux qui ont de l’assurance; Il prive de jugement les vieillards.
and he chaungith the lippis of sothefast men, and takith awei the doctrine of elde men.
21 Il verse le mépris sur les grands; Il relâche la ceinture des forts.
He schedith out dispisyng on princes, and releeueth hem, that weren oppressid.
22 Il met à découvert ce qui est caché dans les ténèbres, Il produit à la lumière l’ombre de la mort.
Which schewith depe thingis fro derknessis; and bryngith forth in to liyt the schadewe of deeth.
23 Il donne de l’accroissement aux nations, et il les anéantit; Il les étend au loin, et il les ramène dans leurs limites.
Which multiplieth folkis, and leesith hem, and restorith hem destried in to the hool.
24 Il enlève l’intelligence aux chefs des peuples, Il les fait errer dans les déserts sans chemin;
Which chaungith the herte of princes of the puple of erthe; and disseyueth hem, that thei go in veyn out of the weie.
25 Ils tâtonnent dans les ténèbres, et ne voient pas clair; Il les fait errer comme des gens ivres.
Thei schulen grope, as in derknessis, and not in liyt; and he schal make hem to erre as drunken men.
