Jérémie 34
1 La parole qui fut adressée à Jérémie de la part de l’Éternel, en ces mots, lorsque Nebucadnetsar, roi de Babylone, avec toute son armée, et tous les royaumes des pays sous sa domination, et tous les peuples, faisaient la guerre à Jérusalem et à toutes les villes qui en dépendaient:
The word that has been to Jeremiah from YHWH—and Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, and all his force, and all kingdoms of the land of the dominion of his hand, and all the peoples are fighting against Jerusalem, and against all its cities—saying:
2 Ainsi parle l’Éternel, le Dieu d’Israël: Va, et dis à Sédécias, roi de Juda, dis-lui: Ainsi parle l’Éternel: Voici, je livre cette ville entre les mains du roi de Babylone, et il la brûlera par le feu.
“Thus said YHWH, God of Israel: Go, and you have spoken to Zedekiah king of Judah, and have said to him, Thus said YHWH: Behold, I am giving this city into the hand of the king of Babylon, and he has burned it with fire,
3 Et toi, tu n’échapperas pas à ses mains, mais tu seras pris et livré entre ses mains, tes yeux verront les yeux du roi de Babylone, et il te parlera bouche à bouche, et tu iras à Babylone.
and you do not escape out of his hand, for you are certainly caught, and you are given into his hand, and your eyes see the eyes of the king of Babylon, and his mouth speaks with your mouth, and you enter Babylon.
4 Seulement écoute la parole de l’Éternel, Sédécias, roi de Juda! Ainsi parle l’Éternel sur toi: Tu ne mourras point par l’épée.
Only, hear a word of YHWH, O Zedekiah king of Judah—thus said YHWH to you: You do not die by sword,
5 Tu mourras en paix; et comme on a brûlé des parfums pour tes pères, les anciens rois qui t’ont précédé, ainsi on en brûlera pour toi, et l’on te pleurera, en disant: Hélas, seigneur! Car j’ai prononcé cette parole, dit l’Éternel.
you die in peace, and with the burnings of your fathers, the former kings who have been before you, so they make a burning for you; and, Oh, lord, they lament for you, for the word I have spoken—a declaration of YHWH.”
6 Jérémie, le prophète, dit toutes ces paroles à Sédécias, roi de Juda, à Jérusalem.
And Jeremiah the prophet speaks all these words to Zedekiah king of Judah in Jerusalem,
7 Et l’armée du roi de Babylone combattait contre Jérusalem et contre toutes les autres villes de Juda, contre Lakis et Azéka, car c’étaient des villes fortes qui restaient parmi les villes de Juda.
and the forces of the king of Babylon are fighting against Jerusalem, and against all the cities of Judah that are left—against Lachish, and against Azekah, for these have been left among the cities of Judah, cities of fortresses.
8 La parole fut adressée à Jérémie de la part de l’Éternel, après que le roi Sédécias eut fait un pacte avec tout le peuple de Jérusalem, pour publier la liberté,
The word that has been to Jeremiah from YHWH, after the making of a covenant by King Zedekiah with all the people who [are] in Jerusalem, to proclaim liberty to them,
9 afin que chacun renvoyât libres son esclave et sa servante, l’Hébreu et la femme de l’Hébreu, et que personne ne tînt plus dans la servitude le Juif, son frère.
to each send out his manservant, and each his maidservant—the Hebrew and the Hebrewess—free, so as not to lay service on them—on any Jew, a brother, a man;
10 Tous les chefs et tout le peuple, qui étaient entrés dans le pacte, s’engagèrent à renvoyer libres chacun son esclave et sa servante, afin de ne plus les tenir dans la servitude; ils obéirent, et les renvoyèrent.
and all the heads listen, and all the people who have come into the covenant to each send forth his manservant and each his maidservant free, so as not to lay service on them anymore, indeed, they listen, and send them away;
11 Mais ensuite ils changèrent d’avis; ils reprirent les esclaves et les servantes qu’ils avaient affranchis, et les forcèrent à redevenir esclaves et servantes.
and they turn afterward, and cause the menservants and the maidservants to return, whom they had sent forth free, and they subdue them for menservants and for maidservants.
12 Alors la parole de l’Éternel fut adressée à Jérémie de la part de l’Éternel, en ces mots:
And there is a word of YHWH to Jeremiah from YHWH, saying,
13 Ainsi parle l’Éternel, le Dieu d’Israël: J’ai fait une alliance avec vos pères, le jour où je les ai fait sortir du pays d’Égypte, de la maison de servitude; et je leur ai dit:
“Thus said YHWH, God of Israel: I made a covenant with your fathers in the day of My bringing them forth from the land of Egypt, from a house of servants, saying,
14 Au bout de sept ans, chacun de vous renverra libre son frère hébreu qui se vend à lui; il te servira six années, puis tu le renverras libre de chez toi. Mais vos pères ne m’ont point écouté, ils n’ont point prêté l’oreille.
At the end of seven years you each send forth his brother, the Hebrew, who is sold to you, and has served you six years, indeed, you have sent him forth from you free: and your fathers did not listen to Me, nor inclined their ear.
15 Vous, vous aviez fait aujourd’hui un retour sur vous-mêmes, vous aviez fait ce qui est droit à mes yeux, en publiant la liberté chacun pour son prochain, vous aviez fait un pacte devant moi, dans la maison sur laquelle mon nom est invoqué.
And today you turn back and you do that which is right in My eyes, to each proclaim liberty to his neighbor, and you make a covenant before Me in the house over which My Name is called.
16 Mais vous êtes revenus en arrière, et vous avez profané mon nom; vous avez repris chacun les esclaves et les servantes que vous aviez affranchis, rendus à eux-mêmes, et vous les avez forcés à redevenir vos esclaves et vos servantes.
And you turn back, and defile My Name, and you each cause his manservant and each his maidservant, whom he had sent forth free (at their pleasure), to return, and you subdue them to be for menservants and for maidservants to you.”
17 C’est pourquoi ainsi parle l’Éternel: Vous ne m’avez point obéi, en publiant la liberté chacun pour son frère, chacun pour son prochain. Voici, je publie contre vous, dit l’Éternel, la liberté de l’épée, de la peste et de la famine, et je vous rendrai un objet d’effroi pour tous les royaumes de la terre.
Therefore, thus said YHWH: “You have not listened to Me to proclaim freedom, each to his brother, and each to his neighbor; behold, I am proclaiming to you liberty,” a declaration of YHWH, “to the sword, to the pestilence, and to the famine, and I have given you for a trembling to all kingdoms of the earth.
18 Je livrerai les hommes qui ont violé mon alliance, qui n’ont pas observé les conditions du pacte qu’ils avaient fait devant moi, en coupant un veau en deux et en passant entre ses morceaux;
And I have given the men who are transgressing My covenant, who have not established the words of the covenant that they have made before Me, by the calf, that they have cut in two, and pass through between its pieces—
19 je livrerai les chefs de Juda et les chefs de Jérusalem, les eunuques, les sacrificateurs, et tout le peuple du pays, qui ont passé entre les morceaux du veau;
heads of Judah, and heads of Jerusalem, the officers, and the priests, and all the people of the land who had passed through between the pieces of the calf—
20 je les livrerai entre les mains de leurs ennemis, entre les mains de ceux qui en veulent à leur vie, et leurs cadavres serviront de pâture aux oiseaux du ciel et aux bêtes de la terre.
indeed, I have given them into the hand of their enemies, and into the hand of those seeking their soul, and their carcass has been for food to the bird of the heavens, and to the beast of the earth.
21 Je livrerai Sédécias, roi de Juda, et ses chefs, entre les mains de leurs ennemis, entre les mains de ceux qui en veulent à leur vie, entre les mains de l’armée du roi de Babylone, qui s’est éloignée de vous.
And I give Zedekiah king of Judah and his heads into the hand of their enemies, and into the hand of those seeking their soul, and into the hand of the forces of the king of Babylon that are going up from off you.
22 Voici, je donnerai mes ordres, dit l’Éternel, et je les ramènerai contre cette ville; ils l’attaqueront, ils la prendront, et la brûleront par le feu. Et je ferai des villes de Juda un désert sans habitants.
Behold, I am commanding,” a declaration of YHWH, “and have brought them back to this city, and they have fought against it, and captured it, and burned it with fire, and I make the cities of Judah a desolation—without inhabitant.”
