Jérémie 19
1 Ainsi a parlé l’Éternel: Va, achète d’un potier un vase de terre, et prends avec toi des anciens du peuple et des anciens des sacrificateurs.
Thus said Yahweh, Go and buy a potter’s earthen bottle, —and take of the elders of the people, and of the elders of the priests;
2 Rends-toi dans la vallée de Ben-Hinnom, qui est à l’entrée de la porte de la poterie; et là, tu publieras les paroles que je te dirai.
Then shalt thou go forth into the valley of Ben-hinnom, which is at the opening of the gate of potsherds; and proclaim there the words which I shall speak unto thee;
3 Tu diras: Écoutez la parole de l’Éternel, rois de Juda, et vous, habitants de Jérusalem! Ainsi parle l’Éternel des armées, le Dieu d’Israël: Voici, je vais faire venir sur ce lieu un malheur Qui étourdira les oreilles de quiconque en entendra parler.
and shalt say, —Hear ye the word of Yahweh, O kings of Judah And inhabitants of Jerusalem, —Thus, saith Yahweh of hosts—God of Israel Behold me! bringing in calamity upon this place, which shall cause the ears of every one that heareth it, to tingle:
4 Ils m’ont abandonné, ils ont profané ce lieu, Ils y ont offert de l’encens à d’autres dieux, Que ne connaissaient ni eux, ni leurs pères, ni les rois de Juda, Et ils ont rempli ce lieu de sang innocent;
Because they have forsaken me, And have treated this as a foreign place, And have burned incense therein to other gods, which neither they, nor their fathers nor the kings of Judah, have known; And have filled this place with the blood of innocents;
5 Ils ont bâti des hauts lieux à Baal, Pour brûler leurs enfants au feu en holocaustes à Baal: Ce que je n’avais ni ordonné ni prescrit, Ce qui ne m’était point venu à la pensée.
And have built the high places of Baal for burning up their sons in the fire as ascending-sacrifices to Baal, —Which I commanded not, Nor spake, Neither came it up on my heart,
6 C’est pourquoi voici, les jours viennent, dit l’Éternel, Où ce lieu ne sera plus appelé Topheth et vallée de Ben-Hinnom, Mais où on l’appellera vallée du carnage.
Therefore, lo! days coming, Declareth Yahweh, When this place shall be called no longer The Topheth, or The Valley of Ben-hinnom, —but—The Valley of Slaughter;
7 J’anéantirai dans ce lieu le conseil de Juda et de Jérusalem; Je les ferai tomber par l’épée devant leurs ennemis Et par la main de ceux qui en veulent à leur vie; Je donnerai leurs cadavres en pâture Aux oiseaux du ciel et aux bêtes de la terre.
And I will pour out the counsel of Judah and Jerusalem in this place, And I will cause them to fall by the sword, before their enemies, and by the hand of them who seek their life, —
8 Je ferai de cette ville un objet de désolation et de moquerie; Tous ceux qui passeront près d’elle Seront dans l’étonnement et siffleront sur toutes ses plaies.
And I will give their dead bodies for food, to the bird of the heavens and to the beast of the earth; And I will make this city a desolation and a hissing, —every one that passeth by it, shall be astonished and hiss over all her wounds;
9 Je leur ferai manger la chair de leurs fils et la chair de leurs filles, Et les uns mangeront la chair des autres, Au milieu de l’angoisse et de la détresse Où les réduiront leurs ennemis Et ceux qui en veulent à leur vie.
And I will suffer them to eat the flesh of their sons, and the flesh of their daughters, yea every one—the flesh of his friend, will they eat, —in the siege and in the straitness, wherewith, their enemies, and they who seek their lives, will straiten them.
10 Tu briseras ensuite le vase, sous les yeux des hommes qui seront allés avec toi.
Then shalt thou break the bottle, before the eyes of the men who are walking with thee;
11 Et tu leur diras: Ainsi parle l’Éternel des armées: C’est ainsi que je briserai ce peuple et cette ville, Comme on brise un vase de potier, Sans qu’il puisse être rétabli. Et l’on enterrera les morts à Topheth par défaut de place pour enterrer.
and shalt say unto them—Thus, saith Yahweh of hosts—Thus and thus, will I break this people, and this city, As one breaketh the vessel of a potter, which cannot be made whole any more, —And in Topheth, shall they bury, for want of place to bury.
12 C’est ainsi que je ferai à ce lieu, dit l’Éternel, et à ses habitants, Et je rendrai cette ville semblable à Topheth.
Thus, will I do to this place Declareth Yahweh, And to the inhabitants thereof, —Even making this city like Topheth:
13 Les maisons de Jérusalem et les maisons des rois de Juda Seront impures comme le lieu de Topheth, Toutes les maisons sur les toits desquelles on offrait de l’encens A toute l’armée des cieux, Et on faisait des libations à d’autres dieux.
Yea, the houses of Jerusalem and the houses of the kings of Judah, shall like the place of Topheth, be places defiled, —even all the houses upon whose roofs they burned incense to all the host of the heavens, and poured out drink-offerings to other gods.
14 Jérémie revint de Topheth, où l’Éternel l’avait envoyé prophétiser. Puis il se tint dans le parvis de la maison de l’Éternel, et il dit à tout le peuple:
Then entered Jeremiah out of Topheth, whither Yahweh had sent him to prophesy, —and stood in the court of the house of Yahweh, and said unto all the people:
15 Ainsi parle l’Éternel des armées, le Dieu d’Israël: Voici, je vais faire venir sur cette ville et sur toutes les villes qui dépendent d’elle tous les malheurs que je lui ai prédits, parce qu’ils ont raidi leur cou, pour ne point écouter mes paroles.
Thus, saith Yahweh of hosts, God of Israel, Behold me! brining in against this city, and upon all the cities thereof, The whole calamity which I have pronounced against her, —Because they stiffened their neck, that they might not hear my words.
