Jérémie 13
1 Ainsi m’a parlé l’Éternel: Va, achète-toi une ceinture de lin, et mets-la sur tes reins; mais ne la trempe pas dans l’eau.
Thus, said Yahweh unto me, —Go and buy for thyself a linen girdle, and put upon thy loins, —but in water, shalt thou not place it.
2 J’achetai la ceinture, selon la parole de l’Éternel, et je la mis sur mes reins.
So I bought a girdle according to the word of Yahweh, —and put upon my loins.
3 La parole de l’Éternel me fut adressée une seconde fois, en ces mots:
Then came the word of Yahweh unto me second time saying:
4 Prends la ceinture que tu as achetée, et qui est sur tes reins; lève-toi, va vers l’Euphrate, et là, cache-la dans la fente d’un rocher.
Take the girdle which thou hast bought which is upon thy loins, —and arise go to the Euphrates, and hide it there in a hole of the cliff.
5 J’allai, et je la cachai près de l’Euphrate, comme l’Éternel me l’avait ordonné.
So I went, and hid it, by the Euphrates, as Yahweh had commanded me.
6 Plusieurs jours après, l’Éternel me dit: Lève-toi, va vers l’Euphrate, et là, prends la ceinture que je t’avais ordonné d’y cacher.
And it came to pass, at the end of many days, —that Yahweh said unto me, —Arise go to the Euphrates, and take from thence the girdle, which I commanded thee to hide there.
7 J’allai vers l’Euphrate, je fouillai, et je pris la ceinture dans le lieu où je l’avais cachée; mais voici, la ceinture était gâtée, elle n’était plus bonne à rien.
So I went to the Euphrates, and digged, and took the girdle out of the place where I had hidden it, —and lo! the girdle was spoiled, it was good for nothing,
8 La parole de l’Éternel me fut adressée, en ces mots:
Then came the word of Yahweh unto me saying:
9 Ainsi parle l’Éternel: C’est ainsi que je détruirai l’orgueil de Juda Et l’orgueil immense de Jérusalem.
Thus, saith Yahweh, —After this manner, will I spoil the pride of Judah and the great pride of Jerusalem.
10 Ce méchant peuple, qui refuse d’écouter mes paroles, Qui suit les penchants de son cœur, Et qui va après d’autres dieux, Pour les servir et se prosterner devant eux, Qu’il devienne comme cette ceinture, Qui n’est plus bonne à rien!
This wicked people who are refusing to hear my words, who are walking in the stubbornness of their heart, and have gone after other gods, to serve them and to bow down to them, yea let them be like this girdle, which is good for nothing.
11 Car comme on attache la ceinture aux reins d’un homme, Ainsi je m’étais attaché toute la maison d’Israël Et toute la maison de Juda, dit l’Éternel, Afin qu’elles fussent mon peuple, Mon nom, ma louange, et ma gloire. Mais ils ne m’ont point écouté.
For as a girdle cleaveth unto the loins of a man, so caused I to cleave unto me—the whole house of Israel and the whole house of Judah Declareth Yahweh, to become mine—For a people, and For a name, and For a praise and For an adorning, —but they hearkened not.
12 Tu leur diras cette parole: Ainsi parle l’Éternel, le Dieu d’Israël: Tous les vases seront remplis de vin. Et ils te diront: Ne savons-nous pas Que tous les vases seront remplis de vin?
Therefore shalt thou say unto them this word—Thus, saith Yahweh God of Israel, Every jar, is to be filled with wine; and they will say unto thee, Do we not, know well, that every jar, is to be filled with wine?
13 Alors dis-leur: Ainsi parle l’Éternel: Voici, je remplirai tous les habitants de ce pays, Les rois qui sont assis sur le trône de David, Les sacrificateurs, les prophètes, et tous les habitants de Jérusalem, Je les remplirai d’ivresse.
Then shalt thou say unto them—Thus, saith Yahweh—Behold me! filling all the inhabitants of this land Even the kings that are sitting for David upon his throne and the priests and the prophets, and all the inhabitants of Jerusalem—with drunkenness;
14 Je les briserai les uns contre les autres, Les pères et les fils ensemble, dit l’Éternel; Je n’épargnerai pas, je n’aurai point de pitié, point de miséricorde, Rien ne m’empêchera de les détruire.
and I will dash them every man against his brother even the fathers and the sons together, Declareth Yahweh, —I will not pity, Neither will I spare, Neither will I have compassion, that I should not destroy them.
15 Écoutez et prêtez l’oreille! Ne soyez point orgueilleux! Car l’Éternel parle.
Hear ye and give ear, be not haughty, —For Yahweh, hath spoken.
16 Rendez gloire à l’Éternel, votre Dieu, Avant qu’il fasse venir les ténèbres, Avant que vos pieds heurtent contre les montagnes de la nuit; Vous attendrez la lumière, Et il la changera en ombre de la mort, Il la réduira en obscurité profonde.
Give ye to Yahweh your God—glory, Before he cause darkness, and Before your feet stumble upon the twilight mountains; Lest, when ye wait for light, He turn it into the shadow of death, And change it for thick darkness.
17 Si vous n’écoutez pas, Je pleurerai en secret, à cause de votre orgueil; Mes yeux fondront en larmes, Parce que le troupeau de l’Éternel sera emmené captif.
But if ye will not hear it, In secret places, shall my soul weep Because of the pride, And mine eye, shall flow over, and run down with tears, Because captive hath been taken the flock of Yahweh.
18 Dis au roi et à la reine: Asseyez-vous à terre! Car il est tombé de vos têtes, Le diadème qui vous servait d’ornement.
Say thou to the king and to the queen-mother, Abase yourselves—Sit down, —For descended have your Head-tires, your Crown of adornment.
19 Les villes du midi sont fermées, Il n’y a personne pour ouvrir; Tout Juda est emmené captif, Il est emmené tout entier captif.
The cities of the South, are shut And there is none to open, —Judah hath been carried away captive, She hath altogether been carried away captive in full number.
20 Lève tes yeux et regarde Ceux qui viennent du septentrion. Où est le troupeau qui t’avait été donné, Le troupeau qui faisait ta gloire?
Lift up your eyes and see Them who are coming in from the North, —Where is The flock that was given thee, Thy beautiful flock?
21 Que diras-tu de ce qu’il te châtie? C’est toi-même qui leur as appris à te traiter en maîtres. Les douleurs ne te saisiront-elles pas, Comme elles saisissent une femme en travail?
What wilt thou say when he shall bring punishment upon thee, Since, thou thyself, hast accustomed them to be over thee as friends in chief? Shall not, pangs, seize thee, as of a woman in childbirth?
22 Si tu dis en ton cœur: Pourquoi cela m’arrive-t-il? C’est à cause de la multitude de tes iniquités Que les pans de tes habits sont relevés, Et que tes talons sont violemment mis à nu.
But if thou say in thy heart, Wherefore have these things befallen me? For the greatness of thine iniquity have Thy skirts been turned aside Thy heels suffered violence!
23 Un Éthiopien peut-il changer sa peau, Et un léopard ses taches? De même, pourriez-vous faire le bien, Vous qui êtes accoutumés à faire le mal?
Can the Ethiopian change, his skin, Or the leopard his spots? Even, ye, may be able to do right, Who are accustomed to do wrong.
24 Je les disperserai, comme la paille emportée Par le vent du désert.
Therefore have I scattered them, As broken straw passing away, by the wind of the desert.
25 Voilà ton sort, la part que je te mesure, Dit l’Éternel, Parce que tu m’as oublié, Et que tu as mis ta confiance dans le mensonge.
This is thy lot Thy measured portion from me, Declareth Yahweh; For that thou didst forget me, And confide in falsehood:
26 Je relèverai tes pans jusque sur ton visage, Afin qu’on voie ta honte.
Therefore, even I myself, have drawn away thy skirts, over thy face, And thy shame hath been seen,
27 J’ai vu tes adultères et tes hennissements, Tes criminelles prostitutions sur les collines et dans les champs, J’ai vu tes abominations. Malheur à toi, Jérusalem! Jusques à quand tarderas-tu à te purifier?
Thine adulteries and thy neighings, thine unchaste wickedness, Upon the hills in the field, I have seen thine abominations! Woe to thee, O Jerusalem, Wilt thou not become pure? After how long yet?
