Jacques 1
1 Jacques, serviteur de Dieu et du Seigneur Jésus-Christ, aux douze tribus qui sont dans la dispersion, salut!
JAMES, a servant of God and of the Lord Jesus Christ, to the twelve tribes which are dispersed, greeting.
2 Mes frères, regardez comme un sujet de joie complète les diverses épreuves auxquelles vous pouvez être exposés,
My brethren, count it all joy when ye fall into various trials;
3 sachant que l’épreuve de votre foi produit la patience.
knowing that the proof of your faith produceth patience.
4 Mais il faut que la patience accomplisse parfaitement son œuvre, afin que vous soyez parfaits et accomplis, sans faillir en rien.
But let patience have its work perfected, that ye may be perfect and complete, deficient in nothing.
5 Si quelqu’un d’entre vous manque de sagesse, qu’il la demande à Dieu, qui donne à tous simplement et sans reproche, et elle lui sera donnée.
But if any man of you be deficient in wisdom, let him ask it of God, who giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not and it shall be given him.
6 Mais qu’il la demande avec foi, sans douter; car celui qui doute est semblable au flot de la mer, agité par le vent et poussé de côté et d’autre.
But let him ask in faith, harbouring no doubt: for he who is doubtful is like a wave of the sea, driven by the wind, and in constant agitation.
7 Qu’un tel homme ne s’imagine pas qu’il recevra quelque chose du Seigneur:
For let not that man think that he shall receive any thing from the Lord.
8 c’est un homme irrésolu, inconstant dans toutes ses voies.
A double-minded man is unsteady in all his ways.
9 Que le frère de condition humble se glorifie de son élévation.
Let the brother low in station rejoice in his elevation:
10 Que le riche, au contraire, se glorifie de son humiliation; car il passera comme la fleur de l’herbe.
but the rich, in his abasement: for as the flower of grass he shall pass away.
11 Le soleil s’est levé avec sa chaleur ardente, il a desséché l’herbe, sa fleur est tombée, et la beauté de son aspect a disparu: ainsi le riche se flétrira dans ses entreprises.
For the sun arose with fervour, and burnt up the grass, and the flower of it fell off, and the beauty of its appearance was lost: just so the rich man in his course of life shall wither away.
12 Heureux l’homme qui supporte patiemment la tentation; car, après avoir été éprouvé, il recevra la couronne de vie, que le Seigneur a promise à ceux qui l’aiment.
Blessed is the man who patiently supports temptation: for when he is proved, he shall receive the crown of life, which the Lord hath promised to those who love him.
13 Que personne, lorsqu’il est tenté, ne dise: C’est Dieu qui me tente. Car Dieu ne peut être tenté par le mal, et il ne tente lui-même personne.
Let no man under temptation say, I am tempted of God: for God is incapable of temptation from evils, and he tempteth no man:
14 Mais chacun est tenté quand il est attiré et amorcé par sa propre convoitise.
but every person is tempted, when by his own peculiar passion he is born away, and ensnared.
15 Puis la convoitise, lorsqu’elle a conçu, enfante le péché; et le péché, étant consommé, produit la mort.
Then passion impregnated, bringeth forth sin, and sin reaching its consummation, bringeth forth death.
16 Ne vous y trompez pas, mes frères bien-aimés:
Be not deceived, my beloved brethren.
17 toute grâce excellente et tout don parfait descendent d’en haut, du Père des lumières, chez lequel il n’y a ni changement ni ombre de variation.
Every good gift, and every perfect gift, is from above, descending from the father of illuminations, with whom there is no variableness, nor shadow of change.
18 Il nous a engendrés selon sa volonté, par la parole de vérité, afin que nous soyons en quelque sorte les prémices de ses créatures.
Of his own choice he produced us by the word of truth, that we might be a sort of first fruit of his creatures.―
19 Sachez-le, mes frères bien-aimés. Ainsi, que tout homme soit prompt à écouter, lent à parler, lent à se mettre en colère;
Wherefore, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath.
20 car la colère de l’homme n’accomplit pas la justice de Dieu.
For the wrath of man worketh not the righteousness of God.
21 C’est pourquoi, rejetant toute souillure et tout excès de malice, recevez avec douceur la parole qui a été plantée en vous, et qui peut sauver vos âmes.
Wherefore laying aside all vicious pollution, and the abundance of iniquity, receive with meekness the ingrafted word, which hath power to save your souls.
22 Mettez en pratique la parole, et ne vous bornez pas à l’écouter, en vous trompant vous-mêmes par de faux raisonnements.
But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves by false reasoning.
23 Car, si quelqu’un écoute la parole et ne la met pas en pratique, il est semblable à un homme qui regarde dans un miroir son visage naturel,
For if any man be a hearer of the word, and not a doer, he is like a man that looks at his natural face in a glass;
24 et qui, après s’être regardé, s’en va, et oublie aussitôt quel il était.
for he beheld himself, and went away, and immediately forgot what sort of person he was.
25 Mais celui qui aura plongé les regards dans la loi parfaite, la loi de la liberté, et qui aura persévéré, n’étant pas un auditeur oublieux, mais se mettant à l’œuvre, celui-là sera heureux dans son activité.
But he that looketh into the perfect law of liberty, and perseveres, this man not being a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work, he shall be blessed in his practice.
26 Si quelqu’un croit être religieux, sans tenir sa langue en bride, mais en trompant son cœur, la religion de cet homme est vaine.
If any man thinks he is a religious character among you, and bridleth not his tongue, but deceiveth his own heart, this man’s religion is vain.
27 La religion pure et sans tache, devant Dieu notre Père, consiste à visiter les orphelins et les veuves dans leurs afflictions, et à se préserver des souillures du monde.
Pure religion and undefiled with God even the Father is this, To pay diligent attention to the orphans and widows in their affliction, and to preserve himself spotless from the world.
