Isaïe 21
1 Oracle sur le désert de la mer. Comme s’avance l’ouragan du midi, Il vient du désert, du pays redoutable.
The prophecy concerning the desert of the sea. As storms which rush along through the south, So it cometh from the desert, From the terrible land.
2 Une vision terrible m’a été révélée. L’oppresseur opprime, le dévastateur dévaste. Monte, Élam! Assiège, Médie! Je fais cesser tous les soupirs.
A grievous vision was revealed to me; The plunderer plundereth, and the destroyer destroyeth. “Go up, O Elam! Besiege, O Media! All sighing do I make to cease.”
3 C’est pourquoi mes reins sont remplis d’angoisses; Des douleurs me saisissent, Comme les douleurs d’une femme en travail; Les spasmes m’empêchent d’entendre, Le tremblement m’empêche de voir.
Therefore are my loins full of pain; Pangs have seized me, as the pangs of a woman in travail; For convulsions I cannot hear; For anguish I cannot see.
4 Mon cœur est troublé, La terreur s’empare de moi; La nuit de mes plaisirs devient une nuit d’épouvante.
My heart panteth, Terror hath seized upon me; The evening of my desire is changed into horror.
5 On dresse la table, la garde veille, on mange, on boit… Debout, princes! Oignez le bouclier!
The table is prepared; the watch is set; They eat; they drink; “Arise, ye princes! Anoint the shield!”
6 Car ainsi m’a parlé le Seigneur: Va, place la sentinelle; Qu’elle annonce ce qu’elle verra.
For thus said the Lord unto me: “Go, set a watchman, Who shall declare what he seeth.”
7 Elle vit de la cavalerie, des cavaliers deux à deux, Des cavaliers sur des ânes, des cavaliers sur des chameaux; Et elle était attentive, très attentive.
And he saw a troop, horsemen in pairs, Riders on asses, and riders on camels, And he watched with the utmost heed.
8 Puis elle s’écria, comme un lion: Seigneur, je me tiens sur la tour toute la journée, Et je suis à mon poste toutes les nuits;
Then he cried like a lion: “My Lord, I stand continually upon the watch-tower in the daytime, And keep my post all the night;
9 Et voici, il vient de la cavalerie, des cavaliers deux à deux! Elle prit encore la parole, et dit: Elle est tombée, elle est tombée, Babylone, Et toutes les images de ses dieux sont brisées par terre!
And behold, there cometh a troop, Horsemen in pairs.” Again also he lifted up his voice, and said: “Fallen, fallen is Babylon, And all the graven images of her gods are cast broken to the ground.”
10 O mon peuple, qui as été battu comme du grain dans mon aire! Ce que j’ai appris de l’Éternel des armées, Dieu d’Israël, Je vous l’ai annoncé.
O my threshing, and the corn of my floor! What I have heard from Jehovah of hosts, the God of Israel, That have I declared to you.
11 Oracle sur Duma. On me crie de Séir: Sentinelle, que dis-tu de la nuit? Sentinelle, que dis-tu de la nuit?
The prophecy concerning Dumah. A voice came to me from Seir: “Watchman, what of the night? Watchman, what of the night?”
12 La sentinelle répond: Le matin vient, et la nuit aussi. Si vous voulez interroger, interrogez; Convertissez-vous, et revenez.
The watchman saith: “Morning cometh, and also night. If ye will inquire, inquire! Return, come!”
13 Oracle sur l’Arabie. Vous passerez la nuit dans les broussailles de l’Arabie, Caravanes de Dedan!
The prophecy against the Arabians. In the thickets of Arabia shall ye lodge, O ye caravans of Dedan!
14 Portez de l’eau à ceux qui ont soif; Les habitants du pays de Théma Portent du pain aux fugitifs.
The inhabitants of the land of Tema Bring water to the thirsty; They come to meet the fugitive with bread.
15 Car ils fuient devant les épées, Devant l’épée nue, devant l’arc tendu, Devant un combat acharné.
For they flee from swords, From the drawn sword, And from the bent bow, And from the fury of war.
16 Car ainsi m’a parlé le Seigneur: Encore une année, comme les années d’un mercenaire, Et c’en est fait de toute la gloire de Kédar.
For thus saith the Lord to me: Within one year, according to the years of a hireling, Shall all the glory of Kedar be consumed.
17 Il ne restera qu’un petit nombre des vaillants archers, fils de Kédar, Car l’Éternel, le Dieu d’Israël, l’a déclaré.
The remainder of the mighty bowmen of the sons of Kedar shall be diminished; For Jehovah, the God of Israel, hath said it.
