< Genèse 46 >

1 Israël partit, avec tout ce qui lui appartenait. Il arriva à Beer-Schéba, et il offrit des sacrifices au Dieu de son père Isaac.
Israel [God prevails] traveled with all that he had, and came to Be'er-Sheva [Well of Seven, Well of an Oath], and offered sacrifices to the God of his father, Isaac [Laughter].
2 Dieu parla à Israël dans une vision pendant la nuit, et il dit: Jacob! Jacob! Israël répondit: Me voici!
God spoke to Israel [God prevails] in the visions of the night, and said, “Jacob [Supplanter], Jacob [Supplanter]!” He said, “Here I am.”
3 Et Dieu dit: Je suis le Dieu, le Dieu de ton père. Ne crains point de descendre en Égypte, car là je te ferai devenir une grande nation.
He said, “I am God, the God of your father. Don’t be afraid to go down into Egypt [Abode of slavery], for there I will make of you a great nation.
4 Moi-même je descendrai avec toi en Égypte, et moi-même je t’en ferai remonter; et Joseph te fermera les yeux.
I will go down with you into Egypt [Abode of slavery]. I will also surely bring you up again. Joseph [May he add] will close your eyes.”
5 Jacob quitta Beer-Schéba; et les fils d’Israël mirent Jacob, leur père, avec leurs enfants et leurs femmes, sur les chars que Pharaon avait envoyés pour les transporter.
Jacob [Supplanter] rose up from Be'er-Sheva [Well of Seven, Well of an Oath], and the sons of Israel [God prevails] carried Jacob [Supplanter], their father, their little ones, and their wives, in the wagons which Pharaoh had sent to carry him.
6 Ils prirent aussi leurs troupeaux et les biens qu’ils avaient acquis dans le pays de Canaan. Et Jacob se rendit en Égypte, avec toute sa famille.
They took their livestock, and their goods, which they had gotten in the land of Canaan [Humbled], and came into Egypt [Abode of slavery]— Jacob, and all his offspring with him,
7 Il emmena avec lui en Égypte ses fils et les fils de ses fils, ses filles et les filles de ses fils, et toute sa famille.
his sons, and his sons’ sons with him, his daughters, and his sons’ daughters, and he brought all his offspring with him into Egypt [Abode of slavery].
8 Voici les noms des fils d’Israël, qui vinrent en Égypte. Jacob et ses fils. Premier-né de Jacob: Ruben.
These are the names of the children of Israel [God prevails], who came into Egypt [Abode of slavery], Jacob [Supplanter] and his sons: Reuben [See, a son!], Jacob [Supplanter]’s firstborn.
9 Fils de Ruben: Hénoc, Pallu, Hetsron et Carmi.
The sons of Reuben [See, a son!]: Hanoch, Pallu, Hezron, and Carmi.
10 Fils de Siméon: Jemuel, Jamin, Ohad, Jakin et Tsochar; et Saul, fils de la Cananéenne.
The sons of Simeon [Hearing]: Jemuel, Jamin, Ohad, Jachin, Zohar, and Shaul [Asked for] the son of a Canaanite [Descendant of Humbled] woman.
11 Fils de Lévi: Guerschon, Kehath et Merari.
The sons of Levi [United with]: Gershon, Kohath, and Merari.
12 Fils de Juda: Er, Onan, Schéla, Pérets et Zarach; mais Er et Onan moururent au pays de Canaan. Les fils de Pérets furent Hetsron et Hamul.
The sons of Judah [Praised]: Er, Onan, Shelah, Perez, and Zerah; but Er and Onan died in the land of Canaan [Humbled]. The sons of Perez were Hezron and Hamul.
13 Fils d’Issacar: Thola, Puva, Job et Schimron.
The sons of Issachar [Hire, Reward]: Tola, Puvah, Job [Persecuted], and Shimron.
14 Fils de Zabulon: Séred, Élon et Jahleel.
The sons of Zebulun [Living together]: Sered, Elon, and Jahleel.
15 Ce sont là les fils que Léa enfanta à Jacob à Paddan-Aram, avec sa fille Dina. Ses fils et ses filles formaient en tout trente-trois personnes.
These are the sons of Leah [Weary], whom she bore to Jacob [Supplanter] in Paddan Aram [Elevated], with his daughter Dinah. All the souls of his sons and his daughters were thirty-three.
16 Fils de Gad: Tsiphjon, Haggi, Schuni, Etsbon, Éri, Arodi et Areéli.
The sons of Gad [Good fortune]: Ziphion, Haggi, Shuni, Ezbon, Eri, Arodi, and Areli.
17 Fils d’Aser: Jimna, Jischva, Jischvi et Beria; et Sérach, leur sœur. Et les fils de Beria: Héber et Malkiel.
The sons of Asher [Happy]: Imnah, Ishvah, Ishvi, Beriah, and Serah their sister. The sons of Beriah: Heber and Malchiel.
18 Ce sont là les fils de Zilpa, que Laban avait donnée à Léa, sa fille; et elle les enfanta à Jacob. En tout, seize personnes.
These are the sons of Zilpah [Frailty], whom Laban [White] gave to Leah [Weary], his daughter, and these she bore to Jacob [Supplanter], even sixteen souls.
19 Fils de Rachel, femme de Jacob: Joseph et Benjamin.
The sons of Rachel [Ewe sheep], Jacob [Supplanter]’s wife: Joseph [May he add] and Benjamin [Son of right hand, Son of south].
20 Il naquit à Joseph, au pays d’Égypte, Manassé et Éphraïm, que lui enfanta Asnath, fille de Poti-Phéra, prêtre d’On.
To Joseph [May he add] in the land of Egypt [Abode of slavery] were born Manasseh [Causing to forget] and Ephraim [Fruit], whom Asenath, the daughter of Potiphera, priest of On, bore to him.
21 Fils de Benjamin: Béla, Béker, Aschbel, Guéra, Naaman, Éhi, Rosch, Muppim, Huppim et Ard.
The sons of Benjamin [Son of right hand, Son of south]: Bela, Becher, Ashbel, Gera, Naaman, Ehi, Rosh, Muppim, Huppim, and Ard.
22 Ce sont là les fils de Rachel, qui naquirent à Jacob. En tout, quatorze personnes.
These are the sons of Rachel [Ewe sheep], who were born to Jacob [Supplanter]: all the souls were fourteen.
23 Fils de Dan: Huschim.
The son of Dan [He judged]: Hushim.
24 Fils de Nephthali: Jathtseel, Guni, Jetser et Schillem.
The sons of Naphtali [My wrestling]: Jahzeel, Guni, Jezer, and Shillem.
25 Ce sont là les fils de Bilha, que Laban avait donnée à Rachel, sa fille; et elle les enfanta à Jacob. En tout, sept personnes.
These are the sons of Bilhah [Bashful], whom Laban [White] gave to Rachel [Ewe sheep], his daughter, and these she bore to Jacob [Supplanter]: all the souls were seven.
26 Les personnes qui vinrent avec Jacob en Égypte, et qui étaient issues de lui, étaient au nombre de soixante-six en tout, sans compter les femmes des fils de Jacob.
All the souls who came with Jacob [Supplanter] into Egypt [Abode of slavery], who were his direct offspring, besides Jacob [Supplanter]’s sons’ wives, all the souls were sixty-six.
27 Et Joseph avait deux fils qui lui étaient nés en Égypte. Le total des personnes de la famille de Jacob qui vinrent en Égypte était de soixante-dix.
The sons of Joseph [May he add], who were born to him in Egypt [Abode of slavery], were two souls. All the souls of the house of Jacob [Supplanter], who came into Egypt [Abode of slavery], were seventy.
28 Jacob envoya Juda devant lui vers Joseph, pour l’informer qu’il se rendait en Gosen.
He sent Judah [Praised] before him to Joseph [May he add], to show the way before him to Goshen [Drawing near], and they came into the land of Goshen [Drawing near].
29 Joseph attela son char et y monta, pour aller en Gosen, à la rencontre d’Israël, son père. Dès qu’il le vit, il se jeta à son cou, et pleura longtemps sur son cou.
Joseph [May he add] prepared his chariot, and went up to meet Israel [God prevails], his father, in Goshen [Drawing near]. He presented himself to him, and fell on his neck, and wept on his neck a good while.
30 Israël dit à Joseph: Que je meure maintenant, puisque j’ai vu ton visage et que tu vis encore!
Israel [God prevails] said to Joseph [May he add], “Now let me die, since I have seen your face, that you are still alive.”
31 Joseph dit à ses frères et à la famille de son père: Je vais avertir Pharaon, et je lui dirai: Mes frères et la famille de mon père, qui étaient au pays de Canaan, sont arrivés auprès de moi.
Joseph [May he add] said to his brothers, and to his father’s house, “I will go up, and speak with Pharaoh, and will tell him, ‘My brothers, and my father’s house, who were in the land of Canaan [Humbled], have come to me.
32 Ces hommes sont bergers, car ils élèvent des troupeaux; ils ont amené leurs brebis et leurs bœufs, et tout ce qui leur appartient.
These men are shepherds, for they have been keepers of livestock, and they have brought their flocks, and their herds, and all that they have.’
33 Et quand Pharaon vous appellera, et dira:
It will happen, when Pharaoh summons you, and will say, ‘What is your occupation?’
34 Quelle est votre occupation? Vous répondrez: Tes serviteurs ont élevé des troupeaux, depuis notre jeunesse jusqu’à présent, nous et nos pères. De cette manière, vous habiterez dans le pays de Gosen, car tous les bergers sont en abomination aux Égyptiens.
that you shall say, ‘Your servants have been keepers of livestock from our youth even until now, both we, and our fathers:’ that you may dwell in the land of Goshen [Drawing near]; for every shepherd is an abomination to the Egyptians [people from Abode of slavery].”
