Genèse 19
1 Les deux anges arrivèrent à Sodome sur le soir; et Lot était assis à la porte de Sodome. Quand Lot les vit, il se leva pour aller au-devant d’eux, et se prosterna la face contre terre.
And there came. ij. angells to Sodome at euen. And Lot satt at the gate of the cyte. And Lot sawe the and rose vp agaynst them and he bowed hym selfe to he grounde with his face.
2 Puis il dit: Voici, mes seigneurs, entrez, je vous prie, dans la maison de votre serviteur, et passez-y la nuit; lavez-vous les pieds; vous vous lèverez de bon matin, et vous poursuivrez votre route. Non, répondirent-ils, nous passerons la nuit dans la rue.
And he sayde: Se lordes turne in I praye you in to youre servauntes house and tary all nyghte and wash youre fete and ryse vp early and go on youre wayes. And they sayde: nay but we will byde in the streates all nyghte.
3 Mais Lot les pressa tellement qu’ils vinrent chez lui et entrèrent dans sa maison. Il leur donna un festin, et fit cuire des pains sans levain. Et ils mangèrent.
And he copelled them excedyngly. And they turned in vnto hym and entred in to his house and he made them a feaste and dyd bake swete cakes and they ate.
4 Ils n’étaient pas encore couchés que les gens de la ville, les gens de Sodome, entourèrent la maison, depuis les enfants jusqu’aux vieillards; toute la population était accourue.
But before they went to rest the men of the cyte of Sodome compassed the house rownde aboute both olde and yonge all the people from all quarters.
5 Ils appelèrent Lot, et lui dirent: Où sont les hommes qui sont entrés chez toi cette nuit? Fais-les sortir vers nous, pour que nous les connaissions.
And they called vnto Lot and sayde vnto him: where are the men which came in to thy house to nyghte? brynge the out unto vs that we may do oure lust with them.
6 Lot sortit vers eux à l’entrée de la maison, et ferma la porte derrière lui.
And Lot went out at doores vnto them and shote the dore after him
7 Et il dit: Mes frères, je vous prie, ne faites pas le mal!
and sayde: nay for goddes sake brethren do not so wekedly.
8 Voici, j’ai deux filles qui n’ont point connu d’homme; je vous les amènerai dehors, et vous leur ferez ce qu’il vous plaira. Seulement, ne faites rien à ces hommes puisqu’ils sont venus à l’ombre de mon toit.
Beholde I haue two doughters which haue knowne no man the will I brynge out vnto you: do with them as it semeth you good: Only vnto these men do nothynge for therfore came they vnder the shadowe of my rofe.
9 Ils dirent: Retire-toi! Ils dirent encore: Celui-ci est venu comme étranger, et il veut faire le juge! Eh bien, nous te ferons pis qu’à eux. Et, pressant Lot avec violence, ils s’avancèrent pour briser la porte.
And they sayde: come hither. And they sayde: camest thou not in to sogeorne and wilt thou be now a iudge? we will suerly deale worse with the than with themAnd as they preased fore vppon Lot and beganne to breake vp the doore
10 Les hommes étendirent la main, firent rentrer Lot vers eux dans la maison, et fermèrent la porte.
the men put forth their handes and pulled Lot in to the house to them and shott to the doore.
11 Et ils frappèrent d’aveuglement les gens qui étaient à l’entrée de la maison, depuis le plus petit jusqu’au plus grand, de sorte qu’ils se donnèrent une peine inutile pour trouver la porte.
And the men that were at the doore of the house they smote with blyndnesse both small and greate: so that they coude not fynde the doore.
12 Les hommes dirent à Lot: Qui as-tu encore ici? Gendres, fils et filles, et tout ce qui t’appartient dans la ville, fais-les sortir de ce lieu.
And the men sayde moreover vnto Lot: Yf thou have yet here any sonne in lawe or sonnes or doughters or what so euer thou hast in the cyte brynge it out of this place:
13 Car nous allons détruire ce lieu, parce que le cri contre ses habitants est grand devant l’Éternel. L’Éternel nous a envoyés pour le détruire.
for we must destroy this place because the crye of the is great before the LORde. Wherfore he hath sent vs to destroy it.
14 Lot sortit, et parla à ses gendres qui avaient pris ses filles: Levez-vous, dit-il, sortez de ce lieu; car l’Éternel va détruire la ville. Mais, aux yeux de ses gendres, il parut plaisanter.
And Lot went out and spake vnto his sonnes in lawe which shulde haue maried his doughters and sayde: stonde vpp and get yow out of this place for the LORde will destroy the cite. But he semed as though he had mocked vnto his sonnes in law.
15 Dès l’aube du jour, les anges insistèrent auprès de Lot, en disant: Lève-toi, prends ta femme et tes deux filles qui se trouvent ici, de peur que tu ne périsses dans la ruine de la ville.
And as the mornynge arose the angells caused Lot to spede him saynge. Stonde vp take thy wyfe and thy two doughters and that that is at hande lest thou perish in the synne of the cyte.
16 Et comme il tardait, les hommes le saisirent par la main, lui, sa femme et ses deux filles, car l’Éternel voulait l’épargner; ils l’emmenèrent, et le laissèrent hors de la ville.
And as he prolonged the tyme the men caught both him his wife ad his two doughters by the handes because the LORde was mercyfull vnto him ad they brought him forth and sette him without the cyte.
17 Après les avoir fait sortir, l’un d’eux dit: Sauve-toi, pour ta vie; ne regarde pas derrière toi, et ne t’arrête pas dans toute la plaine; sauve-toi vers la montagne, de peur que tu ne périsses.
When they had brought them out they sayde: Saue thy lyfe and loke not behynde the nether tary thou in any place of the contre but saue thy selfe in the mountayne lest thou perisshe.
18 Lot leur dit: Oh! Non, Seigneur!
Than sayde Lot vnto them: Oh nay my lorde:
19 Voici, j’ai trouvé grâce à tes yeux, et tu as montré la grandeur de ta miséricorde à mon égard, en me conservant la vie; mais je ne puis me sauver à la montagne, avant que le désastre m’atteigne, et je périrai.
beholde in as moch as thy servaunte hath fownde grace in thy syghte now make thi mercy great which thou shewest vnto me in savinge my lyfe. For I can not saue my selfe in the mountayns lest some misfortune fall vpon me and I dye.
20 Voici, cette ville est assez proche pour que je m’y réfugie, et elle est petite. Oh! Que je puisse m’y sauver, … n’est-elle pas petite?… et que mon âme vive!
Beholde here is a cyte by to flee vnto and it is a lytle one: let me saue my selfe therein: is it not a litle one that my soule may lyue?
21 Et il lui dit: Voici, je t’accorde encore cette grâce, et je ne détruirai pas la ville dont tu parles.
And he sayde to him: se I haue receaved thy request as concernynge this thynge that I will nott overthrowe this cytie for the which thou hast spoken.
22 Hâte-toi de t’y réfugier, car je ne puis rien faire jusqu’à ce que tu y sois arrivé. C’est pour cela que l’on a donné à cette ville le nom de Tsoar.
Haste the ad saue thy selfe there for I can do nothynge tyll thou be come in thyder. And therfore the name of the cyte is called Zoar.
23 Le soleil se levait sur la terre, lorsque Lot entra dans Tsoar.
And the sone was vppon the erth when Lot was entred in to Zoar.
24 Alors l’Éternel fit pleuvoir du ciel sur Sodome et sur Gomorrhe du soufre et du feu, de par l’Éternel.
Than the LORde rayned vpon Sodome and Gomorra brymstone and fyre from the LORde out of heaven
25 Il détruisit ces villes, toute la plaine et tous les habitants des villes, et les plantes de la terre.
and overthrewe those cyteis and all the region and all that dwelled in the cytes and that that grewe vpon the erth.
26 La femme de Lot regarda en arrière, et elle devint une statue de sel.
And lots wyfe loked behynde her ad was turned in to a pillare of salte.
27 Abraham se leva de bon matin, pour aller au lieu où il s’était tenu en présence de l’Éternel.
Abraham rose vp early and got him to the place where he stode before the LORde
28 Il porta ses regards du côté de Sodome et de Gomorrhe, et sur tout le territoire de la plaine; et voici, il vit s’élever de la terre une fumée, comme la fumée d’une fournaise.
and loked toward Sodome and Gomorra and toward all the londe of that contre. And as he loked: beholde the smoke of the contre arose as it had bene the smoke of a fornace.
29 Lorsque Dieu détruisit les villes de la plaine, il se souvint d’Abraham; et il fit échapper Lot du milieu du désastre, par lequel il bouleversa les villes où Lot avait établi sa demeure.
But yet whe God destroyed the cities of ye regio he thought a pon Abraha: and sent Lot out from the dager of the overthrowenge when he overthrewe the cyttes where Lot dwelled.
30 Lot quitta Tsoar pour la hauteur, et se fixa sur la montagne, avec ses deux filles, car il craignait de rester à Tsoar. Il habita dans une caverne, lui et ses deux filles.
And Lot departed out of Zoar and dwelled in the mountayns ad his. ij. doughters with him for he feared to tary in Zoar: he dweld therfore in a caue both he and his. ij. doughters also.
31 L’aînée dit à la plus jeune: Notre père est vieux; et il n’y a point d’homme dans la contrée, pour venir vers nous, selon l’usage de tous les pays.
Than sayde the elder vnto the yonger oure father is olde and there are no moo men in the erth to come in vnto vs after the maner of all the world.
32 Viens, faisons boire du vin à notre père, et couchons avec lui, afin que nous conservions la race de notre père.
Come therfore let vs geue oure father wyne to dryncke and let vs lye with him that we may saue seed of oure father.
33 Elles firent donc boire du vin à leur père cette nuit-là; et l’aînée alla coucher avec son père: il ne s’aperçut ni quand elle se coucha, ni quand elle se leva.
And they gaue their father wyne to drynke that same nyghte. And the elder doughter went and laye with her father. And he perceaued it not nether when she laye doune nether when she rose vp.
34 Le lendemain, l’aînée dit à la plus jeune: Voici, j’ai couché la nuit dernière avec mon père; faisons-lui boire du vin encore cette nuit, et va coucher avec lui, afin que nous conservions la race de notre père.
And on the morowe the elder sayde vnto the yonger: beholde yesternyghte laye I with my father. Let us geue hym wyne to drinke this nyghte also and goo thou and lye with him and let us saue seed of oure father.
35 Elles firent boire du vin à leur père encore cette nuit-là; et la cadette alla coucher avec lui: il ne s’aperçut ni quand elle se coucha, ni quand elle se leva.
And they gaue their father wyne to drincke that nyghte also. And the yonger arose and laye with him. And he perceaved it not: nether when she laye downe nether when she rose vp.
36 Les deux filles de Lot devinrent enceintes de leur père.
Thus were both the doughters of lot with childe by their father
37 L’aînée enfanta un fils, qu’elle appela du nom de Moab: c’est le père des Moabites, jusqu’à ce jour.
And the elder bare a sone and called hym Moab which is the father of the Moabytes vnto this daye.
38 La plus jeune enfanta aussi un fils, qu’elle appela du nom de Ben-Ammi: c’est le père des Ammonites, jusqu’à ce jour.
And the yonger bare a sonne and called hym Ben Ammi which is the father of the childern of Ammon vnto this daye.
