Deutéronome 18
1 Les sacrificateurs, les Lévites, la tribu entière de Lévi, n’auront ni part ni héritage avec Israël; ils se nourriront des sacrifices consumés par le feu en l’honneur de l’Éternel et de l’héritage de l’Éternel.
The Priests of the Leuites, and all the tribe of Leui shall haue no part nor inheritace with Israel, but shall eate the offerings of the Lord made by fire, and his inheritance.
2 Ils n’auront point d’héritage au milieu de leurs frères: l’Éternel sera leur héritage, comme il le leur a dit.
Therefore shall they haue no inheritance among their brethren: for the Lord is their inheritance, as he hath sayd vnto them.
3 Voici quel sera le droit des sacrificateurs sur le peuple, sur ceux qui offriront un sacrifice, un bœuf ou un agneau: on donnera au sacrificateur l’épaule, les mâchoires et l’estomac.
And this shalbe the Priests duetie of the people, that they, which offer sacrifice, whether it be bullocke or sheepe, shall giue vnto the Priest the shoulder, and the two cheekes, and the mawe.
4 Tu lui donneras les prémices de ton blé, de ton moût et de ton huile, et les prémices de la toison de tes brebis;
The first fruites also of thy corne, of thy wine, and of thine oyle, and the first of the fleece of thy sheepe shalt thou giue him.
5 car c’est lui que l’Éternel, ton Dieu, a choisi entre toutes les tribus, pour qu’il fasse le service au nom de l’Éternel, lui et ses fils, à toujours.
For the Lord thy God hath chosen him out of all thy tribes, to stande and minister in the Name of the Lord, him, and his sonnes for euer.
6 Lorsque le Lévite quittera l’une de tes portes, le lieu quelconque où il demeure en Israël, pour se rendre, selon la plénitude de son désir, au lieu que choisira l’Éternel,
Also when a Leuite shall come out of any of thy cities of all Israel, where hee remained, and come with all the desire of his heart vnto the place, which the Lord shall chuse,
7 et qu’il fera le service au nom de l’Éternel, ton Dieu, comme tous ses frères les Lévites qui se tiennent là devant l’Éternel,
He shall then minister in the Name of the Lord his God, as all his brethren the Leuites, which remaine there before the Lord.
8 il recevra pour sa nourriture une portion égale à la leur, et jouira, en outre, des revenus de la vente de son patrimoine.
They shall haue like portions to eat beside that which commeth of his sale of his patrimonie.
9 Lorsque tu seras entré dans le pays que l’Éternel, ton Dieu, te donne, tu n’apprendras point à imiter les abominations de ces nations-là.
When thou shalt come into ye land which the Lord thy God giueth thee, thou shalt not learne to do after ye abominations of those nations.
10 Qu’on ne trouve chez toi personne qui fasse passer son fils ou sa fille par le feu, personne qui exerce le métier de devin, d’astrologue, d’augure, de magicien,
Let none be founde among you that maketh his sonne or his daughter to goe thorough the fire, or that vseth witchcraft, or a regarder of times, or a marker of the flying of foules, or a sorcerer,
11 d’enchanteur, personne qui consulte ceux qui évoquent les esprits ou disent la bonne aventure, personne qui interroge les morts.
Or a charmer, or that counselleth with spirits, or a soothsaier, or that asketh counsel at ye dead.
12 Car quiconque fait ces choses est en abomination à l’Éternel; et c’est à cause de ces abominations que l’Éternel, ton Dieu, va chasser ces nations devant toi.
For all that doe such things are abomination vnto the Lord, and because of these abominations the Lord thy God doeth cast them out before thee.
13 Tu seras entièrement à l’Éternel, ton Dieu.
Thou shalt be vpright therefore with the Lord thy God.
14 Car ces nations que tu chasseras écoutent les astrologues et les devins; mais à toi, l’Éternel, ton Dieu, ne le permet pas.
For these nations which thou shalt possesse, hearken vnto those that regarde the times, and vnto sorcerers: as for thee, the Lord thy God hath not suffred thee so.
15 L’Éternel, ton Dieu, te suscitera du milieu de toi, d’entre tes frères, un prophète comme moi: vous l’écouterez!
The Lord thy God will raise vp vnto thee a Prophet like vnto me, from among you, euen of thy brethren: vnto him ye shall hearken,
16 Il répondra ainsi à la demande que tu fis à l’Éternel, ton Dieu, à Horeb, le jour de l’assemblée, quand tu disais: Que je n’entende plus la voix de l’Éternel, mon Dieu, et que je ne voie plus ce grand feu, afin de ne pas mourir.
According to al that thou desiredst of the Lord thy God in Horeb, in the day of the assemblie, when thou saidest, Let me heare the voice of my Lord God no more, nor see this great fire any more, that I die not.
17 L’Éternel me dit: Ce qu’ils ont dit est bien.
And the Lord sayde vnto me, They haue well spoken.
18 Je leur susciterai du milieu de leurs frères un prophète comme toi, je mettrai mes paroles dans sa bouche, et il leur dira tout ce que je lui commanderai.
I will raise them vp a Prophet from among their brethren like vnto thee, and will put my woordes in his mouth, and he shall speake vnto them all that I shall commaund him.
19 Et si quelqu’un n’écoute pas mes paroles qu’il dira en mon nom, c’est moi qui lui en demanderai compte.
And whosoeuer will not hearken vnto my wordes, which he shall speake in my Name, I will require it of him.
20 Mais le prophète qui aura l’audace de dire en mon nom une parole que je ne lui aurai point commandé de dire, ou qui parlera au nom d’autres dieux, ce prophète-là sera puni de mort.
But the prophet that shall presume to speake a worde in my name, which I haue not commanded him to speake, or that speaketh in the name of other gods, euen the same prophet shall die.
21 Peut-être diras-tu dans ton cœur: Comment connaîtrons-nous la parole que l’Éternel n’aura point dite?
And if thou thinke in thine heart, Howe shall we knowe the worde which the Lord hath not spoken?
22 Quand ce que dira le prophète n’aura pas lieu et n’arrivera pas, ce sera une parole que l’Éternel n’aura point dite. C’est par audace que le prophète l’aura dite: n’aie pas peur de lui.
When a prophet speaketh in the Name of the Lord, if the thing follow not nor come to passe, that is the thing which the Lord hath not spoken, but the prophet hath spoken it presumptuously: thou shalt not therefore be afraid of him.
