Amos 3
1 Écoutez cette parole que l’Éternel prononce contre vous, enfants d’Israël, Contre toute la famille que j’ai fait monter du pays d’Égypte!
Hear these words, which Jehovah speaketh against you, ye sons of Israel; Against the whole family which I brought up out of the land of Egypt!
2 Je vous ai choisis, vous seuls parmi toutes les familles de la terre; C’est pourquoi je vous châtierai pour toutes vos iniquités.
You only have I known of all the families of the earth; Therefore will I punish you for all your iniquities.
3 Deux hommes marchent-ils ensemble, Sans en être convenus?
Can two walk together, Unless they agree together?
4 Le lion rugit-il dans la forêt, Sans avoir une proie? Le lionceau pousse-t-il des cris du fond de sa tanière, Sans avoir fait une capture?
Will the lion roar in the forest, When he seeth no prey? Will the young lion cry aloud from his den, If he have seized nothing?
5 L’oiseau tombe-t-il dans le filet qui est à terre, Sans qu’il y ait un piège? Le filet s’élève-t-il de terre, Sans qu’il y ait rien de pris?
Can a bird fall into a snare upon the earth, Where none is set for him? Will a snare spring up from the ground, When it hath caught nothing?
6 Sonne-t-on de la trompette dans une ville, Sans que le peuple soit dans l’épouvante? Arrive-t-il un malheur dans une ville, Sans que l’Éternel en soit l’auteur?
Shall a trumpet be blown in the city, And the people not be afraid? Shall there be evil upon a city, And Jehovah not have done it?
7 Car le Seigneur, l’Éternel, ne fait rien Sans avoir révélé son secret à ses serviteurs les prophètes.
Surely the Lord Jehovah doeth nothing, But he revealeth his secret To his servants the prophets.
8 Le lion rugit: qui ne serait effrayé? Le Seigneur, l’Éternel, parle: qui ne prophétiserait?
When the lion roareth, who will not fear? When the Lord Jehovah speaketh, who will not prophesy?
9 Faites retentir votre voix dans les palais d’Asdod Et dans les palais du pays d’Égypte, Et dites: Rassemblez-vous sur les montagnes de Samarie, Et voyez quelle immense confusion au milieu d’elle, Quelles violences dans son sein!
Proclaim ye, in the palaces in Ashdod, And in the palaces in the land of Egypt, And say, Assemble yourselves upon the mountains of Samaria; Behold the great tumults in the midst of her, And the oppressions within her!
10 Ils ne savent pas agir avec droiture, dit l’Éternel, Ils entassent dans leurs palais les produits de la violence et de la rapine.
For they have no care to do right, saith Jehovah; They treasure up rapine and robbery in their palaces.
11 C’est pourquoi ainsi parle le Seigneur, l’Éternel: L’ennemi investira le pays, Il détruira ta force, Et tes palais seront pillés.
Therefore thus saith the Lord Jehovah: An enemy shall encompass the land. And shall bring down thy strength from thee, And thy palaces shall be plundered.
12 Ainsi parle l’Éternel: Comme le berger arrache de la gueule du lion Deux jambes ou un bout d’oreille, Ainsi se sauveront les enfants d’Israël qui sont assis dans Samarie A l’angle d’un lit et sur des tapis de damas.
Thus saith Jehovah: As the shepherd taketh out of the lion's mouth Two legs, or a portion of an ear, So shall the children of Israel be taken out, Who in Samaria sit in the corners of their sofas, And upon their damask couches.
13 Écoutez, et déclarez ceci à la maison de Jacob! Dit le Seigneur, l’Éternel, le Dieu des armées.
Hear ye, and testify to the house of Jacob, Saith the Lord, Jehovah, God of hosts!
14 Le jour où je punirai Israël pour ses transgressions, Je frapperai sur les autels de Béthel; Les cornes de l’autel seront brisées, Et tomberont à terre.
In the day when I punish the transgressions of Israel, Then will I punish the altars of Bethel; The horns of the altar shall be cut off, And fall to the ground.
15 Je renverserai les maisons d’hiver et les maisons d’été; Les palais d’ivoire périront, Les maisons des grands disparaîtront, dit l’Éternel.
and I will smite the winter-house together with the summer-house, And the houses of ivory shall be destroyed, And the great houses shall be brought to the ground, saith Jehovah.
