2 Samuel 4
1 Lorsque le fils de Saül apprit qu’Abner était mort à Hébron, ses mains restèrent sans force, et tout Israël fut dans l’épouvante.
Now, when Ish-bosheth son of Saul heard that Abner had died in Hebron, his hands became feeble, —and, all Israel, were dismayed.
2 Le fils de Saül avait deux chefs de bandes, dont l’un s’appelait Baana et l’autre Récab; ils étaient fils de Rimmon de Beéroth, d’entre les fils de Benjamin. Car Beéroth était regardée comme faisant partie de Benjamin,
And two men, captains of bands, pertained to Ish-bosheth son of Saul—the name of the one, was Baanah, and, the name of the other, Rechab—sons of Rimmon the Beerothite, of the sons of Benjamin, —for, even Beeroth, used to be reckoned unto Benjamin;
3 et les Beérothiens s’étaient enfuis à Guitthaïm, où ils ont habité jusqu’à ce jour.
and the Beerothites fled to Gittaim, —and have been sojourners there, until this day.
4 Jonathan, fils de Saül, avait un fils perclus des pieds; et âgé de cinq ans lorsqu’arriva de Jizreel la nouvelle de la mort de Saül et de Jonathan; sa nourrice le prit et s’enfuit, et, comme elle précipitait sa fuite, il tomba et resta boiteux; son nom était Mephiboscheth.
And, Jonathan, son of Saul, had a son, lame of his feet, —five years old, was he, when tidings came in of Saul and Jonathan from Jezreel, so his nurse took him up, and fled, and it came to pass, when she started up to flee, that he fell and was lamed, and, his name, was, Mephibosheth.
5 Or les fils de Rimmon de Beéroth, Récab et Baana, se rendirent pendant la chaleur du jour à la maison d’Isch-Boscheth, qui était couché pour son repos de midi.
So then the sons of Rimmon the Beerothite, Rechab and Baanah, took their journey and came in, about the heat of the day, unto the house of Ish-bosheth, —when, he, was lying on his noonday couch;
6 Ils pénétrèrent jusqu’au milieu de la maison, comme pour prendre du froment, et ils le frappèrent au ventre; puis Récab et Baana, son frère, se sauvèrent.
and, thither, entered they as fro as the middle of the house, to fetch wheat, and they smote him in the belly, —and, Rechab and Baanah his brother, escaped.
7 Ils entrèrent donc dans la maison pendant qu’il reposait sur son lit dans sa chambre à coucher, ils le frappèrent et le firent mourir, et ils lui coupèrent la tête. Ils prirent sa tête, et ils marchèrent toute la nuit au travers de la plaine.
Thus they entered the house when, he, was lying on his bed, in his sleeping-chamber, and smote him, and slew him, and beheaded him, —and took his head, and journeyed by way of the waste plain all the night;
8 Ils apportèrent la tête d’Isch-Boscheth à David dans Hébron, et ils dirent au roi: Voici la tête d’Isch-Boscheth, fils de Saül, ton ennemi, qui en voulait à ta vie; l’Éternel venge aujourd’hui le roi mon seigneur de Saül et de sa race.
and brought in the head of Ish-bosheth unto David, at Hebron, and said unto the king, Lo! the head of Ish-bosheth son of Saul, thine enemy, who sought thy life: so hath Yahweh given to my lord the king, avengement this day, on Saul and on his seed.
9 David répondit à Récab et à Baana, son frère, fils de Rimmon de Beéroth: L’Éternel qui m’a délivré de tout péril est vivant!
Then David responded to Rechab and Baanah his brother, sons of Rimmon the Beerothite, and said unto them, —By the life of Yahweh, who hath redeemed my soul out of all distress,
10 celui qui est venu me dire: Voici, Saül est mort, et qui croyait m’annoncer une bonne nouvelle, je l’ai fait saisir et tuer à Tsiklag, pour lui donner le salaire de son message;
when he that brought tidings to me, saying, Lo! Saul is dead, though, he, was as one that bringeth good tidings, in his own eyes, yet I seized him, and slew him in Ziklag, —which was how I gave him reward for his tidings:
11 et quand des méchants ont assassiné un homme juste dans sa maison et sur sa couche, combien plus ne redemanderai-je pas son sang de vos mains et ne vous exterminerai-je pas de la terre?
how much more, when, lawless men, have slain a righteous person, in his own house, upon his bed? …Now, therefore, must I not require his blood at your hands, and so consume you, out of the earth?
12 Et David ordonna à ses gens de les tuer; ils leur coupèrent les mains et les pieds, et les pendirent au bord de l’étang d’Hébron. Ils prirent ensuite la tête d’Isch-Boscheth, et l’enterrèrent dans le sépulcre d’Abner à Hébron.
David therefore commanded the young men, and they slew them, and cut off their hands, and their feet, and hanged them up over the pool, in Hebron, —but, the head of Ish-bosheth, took they, and buried in the grave of Abner, in Hebron.
