2 Chroniques 13

1 La dix-huitième année du règne de Jéroboam, Abija régna sur Juda.

In the eighteenth year of king Jeroboam — Abijah reigneth over Judah;

2 Il régna trois ans à Jérusalem. Sa mère s’appelait Micaja, fille d’Uriel, de Guibea. Il y eut guerre entre Abija et Jéroboam.

three years he hath reigned in Jerusalem, (and the name of his mother [is] Michaiah daughter of Uriel, from Gibeah, ) and war hath been between Abijah and Jeroboam.

3 Abija engagea les hostilités avec une armée de vaillants guerriers, quatre cent mille hommes d’élite; et Jéroboam se rangea en bataille contre lui avec huit cent mille hommes d’élite, vaillants guerriers.

And Abijah directeth the war with a force of mighty men of war, four hundred thousand chosen men, and Jeroboam hath set in array with him battle, with eight hundred thousand chosen men, mighty of valour.

4 Du haut du mont Tsemaraïm, qui fait partie de la montagne d’Éphraïm, Abija se leva et dit: Écoutez-moi, Jéroboam, et tout Israël!

And Abijah riseth up on the hill of Zemaraim that [is] in the hill-country of Ephraim, and saith, 'Hear me, Jeroboam and all Israel!

5 Ne devez-vous pas savoir que l’Éternel, le Dieu d’Israël, a donné pour toujours à David la royauté sur Israël, à lui et à ses fils, par une alliance inviolable?

Is it not for you to know that Jehovah, God of Israel, hath given the kingdom to David over Israel to the age, to him and to his sons — a covenant of salt?

6 Mais Jéroboam, fils de Nebath, serviteur de Salomon, fils de David, s’est levé et s’est révolté contre son maître.

and rise up doth Jeroboam, son of Nebat, servant of Solomon son of David, and rebelleth against his lord!

7 Des gens de rien, des hommes pervers, se sont rassemblés auprès de lui et l’ont emporté sur Roboam, fils de Salomon. Roboam était jeune et craintif, et il manqua de force devant eux.

'And there are gathered unto him vain men, sons of worthlessness, and they strengthen themselves against Rehoboam son of Solomon, and Rehoboam was a youth, and tender of heart, and hath not strengthened himself against them.

8 Et maintenant, vous pensez triompher du royaume de l’Éternel, qui est entre les mains des fils de David; et vous êtes une multitude nombreuse, et vous avez avec vous les veaux d’or que Jéroboam vous a faits pour dieux.

'And now, ye are saying to strengthen yourselves before the kingdom of Jehovah in the hand of the sons of David, and ye [are] a numerous multitude, and with you calves of gold that Jeroboam hath made to you for gods.

9 N’avez-vous pas repoussé les sacrificateurs de l’Éternel, les fils d’Aaron et les Lévites, et ne vous êtes-vous pas fait des sacrificateurs, comme les peuples des autres pays? Quiconque venait avec un jeune taureau et sept béliers, afin d’être consacré, devenait sacrificateur de ce qui n’est point Dieu.

'Have ye not cast out the priests of Jehovah, the sons of Aaron, and the Levites, and make to you priests like the peoples of the lands? every one who hath come to fill his hand with a bullock, a son of the herd, and seven rams, even he hath been a priest to No-gods!

10 Mais pour nous, l’Éternel est notre Dieu, et nous ne l’avons point abandonné, les sacrificateurs au service de l’Éternel sont fils d’Aaron, et les Lévites remplissent leurs fonctions.

'As for us, Jehovah [is] our God, and we have not forsaken Him, and priests are ministering to Jehovah, sons of Aaron and the Levites, in the work,

11 Nous offrons chaque matin et chaque soir des holocaustes à l’Éternel, nous brûlons le parfum odoriférant, nous mettons les pains de proposition sur la table pure, et nous allumons chaque soir le chandelier d’or et ses lampes; car nous observons les commandements de l’Éternel, notre Dieu. Et vous, vous l’avez abandonné.

and are making perfume to Jehovah, burnt-offerings morning by morning, and evening by evening, and perfume of spices, and the arrangement of bread [is] on the pure table, and the candlestick of gold, and its lamps, to burn evening by evening, for we are keeping the charge of Jehovah our God, and ye — ye have forsaken Him.

12 Voici, Dieu et ses sacrificateurs sont avec nous, à notre tête, et nous avons les trompettes retentissantes pour les faire résonner contre vous. Enfants d’Israël! Ne faites pas la guerre à l’Éternel, le Dieu de vos pères, car vous n’auriez aucun succès.

'And lo, with us — at [our] head — [is] God, and His priests and trumpets of shouting to shout against you; O sons of Israel, do not fight with Jehovah, God of your fathers, for ye do not prosper.'

13 Jéroboam les prit par derrière au moyen d’une embuscade, et ses troupes étaient en face de Juda, qui avait l’embuscade par derrière.

And Jeroboam hath brought round the ambush to come in from behind them, and they are before Judah, and the ambush [is] behind them.

14 Ceux de Juda s’étant retournés eurent à combattre devant et derrière. Ils crièrent à l’Éternel, et les sacrificateurs sonnèrent des trompettes.

And Judah turneth, and lo, against them [is] the battle, before and behind, and they cry to Jehovah, and the priests are blowing with trumpets,

15 Les hommes de Juda poussèrent un cri de guerre et, au cri de guerre des hommes de Juda, l’Éternel frappa Jéroboam et tout Israël devant Abija et Juda.

and the men of Judah shout — and it cometh to pass, at the shouting of the men of Judah, that God hath smitten Jeroboam, and all Israel, before Abijah and Judah.

16 Les enfants d’Israël s’enfuirent devant Juda, et Dieu les livra entre ses mains.

And the sons of Israel flee from the face of Judah, and God giveth them into their hand,

17 Abija et son peuple leur firent éprouver une grande défaite, et cinq cent mille hommes d’élite tombèrent morts parmi ceux d’Israël.

and Abijah and his people smite among them a great smiting, and there fall wounded of Israel five hundred thousand chosen men.

18 Les enfants d’Israël furent humiliés en ce temps, et les enfants de Juda remportèrent la victoire, parce qu’ils s’étaient appuyés sur l’Éternel, le Dieu de leurs pères.

And the sons of Israel are humbled at that time, and the sons of Judah are strong, for they have leant on Jehovah, God of their fathers.

19 Abija poursuivit Jéroboam et lui prit des villes, Béthel et les villes de son ressort, Jeschana et les villes de son ressort, et Éphron et les villes de son ressort.

And Abijah pursueth after Jeroboam, and captureth from him cities, Beth-El and its small towns, and Jeshanah and its small towns, and Ephraim and its small towns.

20 Jéroboam n’eut plus de force du temps d’Abija; et l’Éternel le frappa, et il mourut.

And Jeroboam hath not retained power any more in the days of Abijah, and Jehovah smiteth him, and he dieth.

21 Mais Abija devint puissant; il eut quatorze femmes, et engendra vingt-deux fils et seize filles.

And Abijah strengtheneth himself, and taketh to him fourteen wives, and begetteth twenty and two sons, and sixteen daughters,

22 Le reste des actions d’Abija, ce qu’il a fait et ce qu’il a dit, cela est écrit dans les mémoires du prophète Iddo.

and the rest of the matters of Abijah, and his ways, and his words, are written in the 'Inquiry' of the prophet Iddo.
