Psaumes 44
1 Jusqu'à la Fin. Psaume d'instruction, des fils de Koré. Dieu, nous l'avons ouï de nos oreilles; nos pères nous ont fait connaître l'œuvre que tu as faite en leurs jours, aux jours antiques.
For the Leader; a Psalm of the sons of Korah. Maschil. O God, we have heard with our ears, our fathers have told us; a work Thou didst in their days, in the days of old.
2 Ta main a exterminé les nations; mais eux, tu les as établis, et tu as affligé les Gentils, tu les as chassés.
Thou with Thy hand didst drive out the nations, and didst plant them in; Thou didst break the peoples, and didst spread them abroad.
3 Car ce n'est point l'épée de nos pères qui les a mis en possession de notre héritage; ce n'est point leur bras qui les a sauvés; mais c'est ta droite et ton bras, et la lumière de ta face, parce que toi tu t'es complu en eux.
For not by their own sword did they get the land in possession, neither did their own arm save them; but Thy right hand, and Thine arm, and the light of Thy countenance, because Thou wast favourable unto them.
4 Tu es toi-même mon Roi et mon Dieu; tu as ordonné le salut de Jacob.
Thou art my King, O God; command the salvation of Jacob.
5 Par toi, nous aurons la force de soulever nos ennemis, et en ton nom nous mépriserons ceux qui se lèvent contre toi.
Through Thee do we push down our adversaries; through Thy name do we tread them under that rise up against us.
6 Car je n'espérerai point en mon arc, et ce n'est pas mon glaive qui me sauvera.
For I trust not in my bow, neither can my sword save me.
7 C'est toi qui nous as déjà sauvés de nos persécuteurs, et ceux qui nous haïssaient, tu les as confondus.
But Thou hast saved us from our adversaries, and hast put them to shame that hate us.
8 En Dieu nous serons loués tout le jour, et nous rendrons grâces à son nom éternellement.
In God have we gloried all the day, and we will give thanks unto Thy name for ever. (Selah)
9 Mais maintenant tu nous as repoussés et confondus, et tu ne sortiras plus avec nos armées.
Yet Thou hast cast off, and brought us to confusion; and goest not forth with our hosts.
10 Tu nous as tourné le dos devant nos ennemis, et ceux qui nous haïssent nous ont pillés à leur profit.
Thou makest us to turn back from the adversary; and they that hate us spoil at their will.
11 Tu nous as livrés comme des brebis bonnes à manger; tu nous as dispersés parmi les Gentils.
Thou hast given us like sheep to be eaten; and hast scattered us among the nations.
12 Tu leur as vendu pour rien ton peuple, et il n'y a pas eu foule pour l'acheter.
Thou sellest Thy people for small gain, and hast not set their prices high.
13 Tu as fait de nous l'opprobre de nos voisins, la risée et la raillerie de ceux qui nous entourent.
Thou makest us a taunt to our neighbours, a scorn and a derision to them that are round about us.
14 Tu as fait de nous la fable des Gentils; sur nous les peuples secouent la tête.
Thou makest us a byword among the nations, a shaking of the head among the peoples.
15 J'ai tout le jour ma honte devant moi, et la confusion de ma face m'a couvert,
All the day is my confusion before me, and the shame of my face hath covered me,
16 A la voix de celui qui m'injurie et m'outrage, à la face de mon ennemi et de mon persécuteur.
For the voice of him that taunteth and blasphemeth; by reason of the enemy and the revengeful.
17 Toutes ces choses sont venues sur nous; mais nous ne t'avons point oublié; nous n'avons point violé ton alliance.
All this is come upon us; yet have we not forgotten Thee, neither have we been false to Thy covenant.
18 Notre cœur ne s'est pas éloigné; mais tu as détourné nos sentiers de ta voie.
Our heart is not turned back, neither have our steps declined from Thy path;
19 Car tu nous as humiliés en un lieu d'affliction, et l'ombre de la mort nous a enveloppés.
Though Thou hast crushed us into a place of jackals, and covered us with the shadow of death.
20 Si nous avions oublié le nom de notre Dieu, si nous avions étendu les mains vers des dieux étrangers,
If we had forgotten the name of our God, or spread forth our hands to a strange god;
21 Dieu ne rechercherait-il pas ces choses? Car seul il connaît les secrets des cœurs.
Would not God search this out? For He knoweth the secrets of the heart.
22 A cause de toi nous mourons tout le jour; nous sommes comptés comme les brebis du sacrifice.
Nay, but for Thy sake are we killed all the day; we are accounted as sheep for the slaughter.
23 Réveille-toi; pourquoi dors-tu, Seigneur? Lève-toi, et ne nous repousse pas jusqu'à la fin.
Awake, why sleepest Thou, O Lord? Arouse Thyself, cast not off for ever.
24 Pourquoi détournes-tu ta face? As-tu oublié notre pauvreté et notre affliction?
Wherefore hidest Thou Thy face, and forgettest our affliction and our oppression?
25 Car notre âme est abaissée jusqu'à la poussière, et notre ventre est collé sur le sol.
For our soul is bowed down to the dust; our belly cleaveth unto the earth.
26 Lève-toi, Seigneur; viens à notre secours, et délivre-nous pour la gloire de ton nom.
Arise for our help, and redeem us for Thy mercy's sake.
