Proverbes 30
1 Ô mon fils, révère mes paroles; recueille-les et repens-toi. Voici ce que dit un homme à ceux qui se confient en Dieu; mais je m'arrête,
The wordis of hym that gaderith, of the sone spuynge. The prophesie which a man spak, with whom God was, and which man was coumfortid bi God dwellyng with hym,
2 car je suis moi-même le plus insensé des hommes, et la sagesse des mortels n'est point en moi
and seide, Y am the moost fool of men; and the wisdom of men is not with me.
3 mais Dieu m'a enseigné la sagesse, et je connais la doctrine des saints.
Y lernede not wisdom; and Y knew not the kunnyng of hooli men.
4 Qui donc est monté au ciel et en est descendu? Qui a rassemblé les vents dans un pli de Son manteau? Qui a contenu les eaux comme dans un vêtement? Qui a pouvoir sur les extrémités de la terre? Quel est Son Nom? Quel est le nom de Ses enfants?
Who stiede in to heuene, and cam doun? Who helde togidere the spirit in hise hondis? who bonde togidere watris as in a cloth? Who reiside alle the endis of erthe? What is name of hym? and what is the name of his sone, if thou knowist?
5 Toutes les paroles de Dieu sont des flammes, et Il protège ceux qui Le craignent.
Ech word of God is a scheld set a fiere, to alle that hopen in hym.
6 N'ajoute rien à Ses paroles, de peur qu'Il ne te reprenne et ne t'accuse de mensonge.
Adde thou not ony thing to the wordis of hym, and thou be repreued, and be foundun a liere.
7 Seigneur, je Te demande deux choses: Ne me retire pas Ta grâce avant que je meure;
I preiede thee twei thingis; denye not thou to me, bifor that Y die.
8 éloigne de moi les paroles vaines et le mensonge; ne me donne ni la richesse ni la pauvreté; mais accorde-moi ce qui m'est nécessaire et suffisant;
Make thou fer fro me vanyte and wordis of leesyng; yyue thou not to me beggery and richessis; yyue thou oneli necessaries to my lijflode;
9 de peur que, rassasié, je ne devienne trompeur, et ne dise: Qui me voit? ou que, poussé par le besoin, je ne dérobe, et que je ne parjure le Nom du Seigneur.
lest perauenture Y be fillid, and be drawun to denye, and seie, Who is the Lord? and lest Y compellid bi nedynesse, stele, and forswere the name of my God.
10 Ne livre pas l'esclave fugitif à son maître; de peur qu'il ne te maudisse, et que tu ne périsses à ton tour.
Accuse thou not a seruaunt to his lord, lest perauenture he curse thee, and thou falle doun.
11 Une race pervertie maudit son père, et ne bénit pas sa mère.
A generacioun that cursith his fadir, and that blessith not his modir.
12 Une race pervertie s'estime juste, et qui pourtant n'a point lavé le devant de sa porte.
A generacioun that semeth cleene to it silf, and netheles is not waischun fro hise filthis.
13 Une race pervertie a les yeux hautains; l'orgueil est sur ses paupières.
A generacioun whose iyen ben hiy, and the iye liddis therof ben reisid in to hiy thingis.
14 D'une race pervertie les dents sont des glaives; et ses mâchoires, des couteaux pour détruire et dévorer, sur la terre, les humbles et les pauvres parmi les hommes.
A generacioun that hath swerdis for teeth, and etith with hise wank teeth; that it ete nedi men of erthe, and the porails of men.
15 La sangsue avait trois filles qu'elle aimait d'un tendre amour; et à elles trois, elles ne remplissaient pas son cœur; une quatrième ne suffit pas pour lui faire dire: C'est assez.
The watir leche hath twei douytris, seiynge, Brynge, bringe. Thre thingis ben vnable to be fillid, and the fourthe, that seith neuere, It suffisith;
16 L'enfer, l'amour d'une femme, une terre qui manque d'eau, l'eau et le feu ne diront jamais: C'est assez. (Sheol h7585)
helle, and the mouth of the wombe, and the erthe which is neuere fillid with water; but fier seith neuere, It suffisith. (Sheol h7585)
17 L'œil qui se moque d'un père et qui n'honore point la vieillesse d'une mère, que les corbeaux du vallon l'arrachent, et que les aiglons le dévorent.
Crowis of the stronde picke out thilke iye, that scorneth the fadir, and that dispisith the child beryng of his modir; and the briddis of an egle ete that iye.
18 Il y a trois choses qu'il m'est impossible de comprendre, et une quatrième que j'ignore
Thre thingis ben hard to me, and outirli Y knowe not the fourthe thing;
19 la trace d'un aigle dans les airs, celle d'un serpent dans les rochers, les sentiers d'un ruisseau qui vogue sur l'eau, et les voies d'un homme dans sa jeunesse.
the weye of an egle in heuene, the weie of a serpent on a stoon, the weie of a schip in the myddil of the see, and the weie of a man in yong wexynge age.
20 Telle est la voie de la femme adultère, qui, après ce qu'elle a fait, se lave, et dit n'avoir rien fait d'inconvenant.
Siche is the weie of a womman auowtresse, which etith, and wipith hir mouth, and seith, Y wrouyte not yuel.
21 Trois choses troublent la terre; il en est une quatrième qu'elle ne peut supporter
The erthe is moued bi thre thingis, and the fourthe thing, which it may not susteyne;
22 un esclave devenu roi; un insensé regorgeant de biens;
bi a seruaunt, whanne he regneth; bi a fool, whanne he is fillid with mete;
23 une servante qui a supplanté sa maîtresse, et une méchante femme réunie à un bon mari.
bi an hateful womman, whanne sche is takun in matrymonye; and bi an handmaide, whanne sche is eir of hir ladi.
24 Il y a sur la terre quatre êtres bien petits, et ils sont plus sages que les sages
Foure ben the leeste thingis of erthe, and tho ben wisere than wise men;
25 la fourmi, qui n'a point de force, et prépare en été sa nourriture;
amtis, a feble puple, that maken redi mete in heruest to hem silf;
26 le hérisson, peuple débile, qui fait sa demeure sur les rochers;
a hare, a puple vnmyyti, that settith his bed in a stoon;
27 la sauterelle, qui n'a point de roi et marche comme une armée en bon ordre, au commandement d'une seule;
a locust hath no kyng, and al goith out bi cumpanyes; an euete enforsith with hondis,
28 et le lézard moucheté, qui se tient droit, et, quoique facile à prendre, habite les forteresses des rois.
and dwellith in the housis of kingis.
29 Il y a trois êtres dont la démarche est belle, et un quatrième dont le maintien est majestueux

30 le lionceau, le plus fort des animaux, qui ne recule devant rien, et ne redoute aucune bête;
A lioun, strongeste of beestis, schal not drede at the meetyng of ony man;
31 le coq, qui se promène, plein d'ardeur, parmi les poules; et le bouc qui conduit le troupeau, et le roi qui gouverne une nation.
a cok gird the leendis, and a ram, and noon is that schal ayenstonde him.
32 Si tu t'es laissé aller à la joie, et que tu étendes les mains pour te disculper, tu seras confondu.
He that apperith a fool, aftir that he is reisid an hiy; for if he hadde vndurstonde, he hadde sett hond on his mouth.
33 Trais le lait avec trop de force, il deviendra du beurre; blesse-toi les narines, il en sortira du sang; cherche querelle, il s'ensuivra des rixes et des procès.
Forsothe he that thristith strongli teetis, to drawe out mylk, thristith out botere; and he that smytith greetli, drawith out blood; and he that stirith iris, bringith forth discordis.
