Proverbes 29
1 L'homme qui reprend vaut mieux que l'indocile; car celui-ci tombera soudain dans des maux cuisants et sans remède.
He that being often reproved hardeneth his neck, shall suddenly be destroyed, and without remedy.
2 Quand les justes sont loués, les peuples sont dans la joie; mais quand les impies gouvernent, les hommes gémissent.
When the righteous increase, the people rejoice; but when the wicked beareth rule, the people mourn.
3 Un homme qui aime la sagesse fait la joie de son père; celui qui nourrit des prostituées dissipe ses richesses.
Whoso loveth wisdom rejoiceth his father; but he that is a companion of harlots destroyeth [his] substance.
4 Le roi juste fait prospérer ses États; le méchant les ruine.
A king by just judgment establisheth the land; but he that taketh gifts overthroweth it.
5 Celui qui tend un filet à la face de son ami, s'y prendra lui-même les pieds.
A man that flattereth his neighbour spreadeth a net for his steps.
6 Le pécheur marche environné de pièges; le juste vit plein de paix et de joie.
In the transgression of an evil man there is a snare; but the righteous shall sing and rejoice.
7 Le juste sait rendre justice aux pauvres; mais l'impie n'entend pas cette science, et le nécessiteux n'a pas l'esprit assez intelligent.
The righteous taketh knowledge of the cause of the poor; the wicked understandeth not knowledge.
8 Les hommes déréglés mettent en feu une ville; le sage apaise les colères.
Scornful men set the city in a flame; but the wise turn away anger.
9 Un homme sage juge les nations; mais un homme méprisable, s'il se met en colère, fait rire et n'effraie personne.
If a wise man contendeth with a fool, whether he rage or laugh, [he] hath no rest.
10 Les hommes de sang haïssent un saint; les hommes droits recherchent son âme.
The bloodthirsty hate the perfect, but the upright care for his soul.
11 L'insensé donne cours à toute sa colère; le sage la contient et la mesure.
A fool uttereth all his mind; but a wise [man] keepeth it back.
12 Quand un roi prête l'oreille à l'injustice, tous ses sujets transgressent la loi.
If a ruler hearken to lying words, all his servants are wicked.
13 L'usurier et l'emprunteur marchent ensemble; le Seigneur les surveille l'un et l'autre.
The indigent and the oppressor meet together; Jehovah lighteneth the eyes of them both.
14 Si un roi juge les pauvres selon la vérité, son trône sera affermi pour servir de témoignage.
A king that faithfully judgeth the poor, his throne shall be established for ever.
15 Les réprimandes et les corrections donnent la sagesse; l'enfant qui s'en écarte est la honte de ses parents.
The rod and reproof give wisdom; but a child left [to himself] bringeth his mother to shame.
16 Plus il y a d'impies, plus il y a de péchés; les justes, avertis par leurs chutes, deviennent craintifs.
When the wicked increase, transgression increaseth; but the righteous shall see their fall.
17 Corrige ton fils, et il donnera à toi le repos, à ton âme la gloire.
Chasten thy son, and he shall give thee rest, and shall give delight unto thy soul.
18 Il n'est point de prophète pour une nation perverse; mais bienheureux est celui qui garde la loi.
Where there is no vision the people cast off restraint; but happy is he that keepeth the law.
19 La parole ne suffit pas pour corriger un mauvais serviteur; car même quand il la comprend, il lui est indocile.
A servant is not corrected by words: he understandeth indeed, but he will not answer.
20 Si tu vois un homme prompt à parler, sache que l'insensé même a plus d'espoir que lui.
Hast thou seen a man hasty in his words? there is more hope of a fool than of him.
21 Celui qui, dès l'enfance, a vécu dans les délices, un jour sera au service d'autrui et pleurera sur lui-même.
He that delicately bringeth up his servant from a child, shall in the end have him as a son.
22 L'homme enclin à la colère excite des discordes; l'homme irascible se creuse un abîme de péchés.
An angry man exciteth contention; and a furious man aboundeth in transgression.
23 L'orgueil abaisse l'homme; le Seigneur est l'appui des humbles, et les élève en gloire.
A man's pride bringeth him low; but the humble in spirit shall obtain honour.
24 Celui qui prend sa part d'un larcin hait son âme; ceux qui ayant ouï un serment, n'en ont rien dit,
Whoso shareth with a thief hateth his own soul: he heareth the adjuration, and declareth not.
25 par crainte ou par égard pour les hommes, ont failli. Celui qui met sa confiance dans le Seigneur sera dans la joie; l'impiété cause la chute de l'homme; celui qui a mis sa confiance dans le Maître, sera sauvé.
The fear of man bringeth a snare; but whoso putteth his confidence in Jehovah is protected.
26 Beaucoup se prosternent devant la face du prince; mais c'est le Seigneur qui est le juge des hommes.
Many seek the ruler's face; but a man's right judgment is from Jehovah.
27 Le juste est en abomination à l'injuste; et celui qui suit la droite voie est en abomination au pervers.
An unjust man is an abomination to the righteous; and he that is of upright way is an abomination to the wicked [man].
