Proverbes 27
1 Ne te glorifie pas des choses de demain; car tu ne sais pas ce qu'enfantera le jour qui va venir.
Boast not for tomorrow, for thou knowest not what the day to come may bring forth.
2 Que ton prochain te loue, et non ta bouche; qu'un étranger fasse ton éloge, et non tes lèvres.
Let another praise thee, and not thy own mouth: a stranger, and not thy own lips.
3 La pierre est lourde et le sable est difficile à transporter; la colère de l'insensé est plus pesante que la pierre et le sable.
A stone is heavy, and sand weighty: but the anger of a fool is heavier than them both.
4 Le courroux est sans pitié, la colère pénétrante; mais l'envie ne peut rien supporter.
Anger hath no mercy, nor fury when it breaketh forth: and who can bear the violence of one provoked?
5 Mieux vaut le blâme à découvert que des amitiés cachées.
Open rebuke is better than hidden love.
6 Les blessures faites par un ami sont plus dignes de confiance que les baisers d'un ennemi.
Better are the wounds of a friend, than the deceitful kisses of an enemy.
7 L'âme dans la satiété ne fait aucun cas d'un rayon de miel; à l'âme affamée tout semble doux, même les choses amères.
A soul that is full shall tread upon the honeycomb: and a soul that is hungry shall take even bitter for sweet.
8 L'homme qui s'est expatrié est réduit en esclavage, comme le petit oiseau tombé de son nid.
As a bird that wandereth from her nest, so is a man that leaveth his place.
9 Le cœur se réjouit du vin, des parfums et de l'encens; mais l'âme est déchirée par les malheurs.
Ointment and perfumes rejoice the heart: and the good counsels of a friend are sweet to the soul.
10 N'abandonne point ton ami ni l'ami de ton père; si tu es en détresse, n'entre point dans la maison de ton frère; mieux vaut un ami auprès de toi qu'un frère qui demeure au loin.
Thy own friend, and thy father’s friend forsake not: and go not into thy brother’s house in the day of thy affliction. Better is a neighbour that is near, than a brother afar off.
11 Sois sage, ô mon fils, afin que ton cœur se réjouisse; éloigne de toi les paroles de blâme.
Study wisdom, my son, and make my heart joyful, that thou mayst give an answer to him that reproacheth.
12 L'homme habile, à l'approche d'un malheur, se tient caché; mais les insensés courent au-devant, et en portent la peine.
The prudent man seeing evil hideth himself: little ones passing on have suffered losses.
13 Ôte son manteau à quiconque ravage le champ d'autrui; car c'est un méchant qui a passé là.
Take away his garment that hath been surety for a stranger: and take from him a pledge for strangers.
14 Celui qui bénira son ami à haute voix, dès l'aurore, semblera ne différer en rien de celui qui le maudit.
He that blesseth his neighbour with a loud voice, rising in the night, shall be like to him that curseth.
15 La pluie, en hiver, tombant dans une maison en chasse le maître; il en est de même d'une femme querelleuse dans sa propre maison.
Roofs dropping through in a cold day, and a contentious woman are alike.
16 L'aquilon est un vent rigoureux, et pourtant il est réputé de bon augure.
He that retaineth her, is as he that would hold the wind, and shall call in the oil of his right hand.
17 Le fer aiguise le fer; ainsi l'ami ranime le visage de son ami.
Iron sharpeneth iron, so a man sharpeneth the countenance of his friend.
18 Qui plante un figuier en mange les fruits; qui barde son maître sera honoré.
He that keepeth the fig tree, shall eat the fruit thereof: and he that is the keeper of his master, shall be glorified.
19 Les visages ne ressemblent point aux visages; ainsi en est-il des pensées des hommes.
As the faces of them that look therein, shine in the water, so-the hearts of men are laid open to the wise.
20 L'enfer et la perdition ne sont jamais rassasiés; de même les yeux des hommes sont insatiables; (Sheol h7585)
Hell and destruction are never filled: so the eyes of men are never satisfied. (Sheol h7585)
21 On éprouve par le feu l'or et l'argent; l'épreuve de l'homme est la bouche de ceux qui le louent.
As silver is tried in the fining-pot and gold in the furnace: so a man is tried by the mouth of him that praiseth. The heart of the wicked seeketh after evils, but the righteous heart seeketh after knowledge.
22 Tu auras beau flageller en pleine assemblée l'imprudent qui se déshonore, tu ne lui ôteras point son imprudence.
Though thou shouldst bray a fool in the mortar, as when a pestle striketh upon sodden barley, his folly would not be taken from him.
23 Apprends à bien connaître les besoins de tes brebis, et applique ton cœur au soin de tes grands troupeaux.
Be diligent to know the countenance of thy cattle, and consider thy own flocks:
24 La force et le pouvoir de l'homme de durent pas des siècles; ils ne passent pas de génération en génération.
For thou shalt not always have power: but a crown shall be given to generation and generation.
25 Occupe-toi de l'herbe des champs; fauche tes près et recueille du fourrage durant l'été.
The meadows are open, and the green herbs have appeared, and the hay is gathered out of the mountains.
26 Si tu veux avoir des brebis pour te vêtir, cultive tes champs pour avoir des agneaux.
Lambs are for thy clothing: and kids for the price of the field.
27 Mon fils, tu tiens de moi des préceptes sûrs pour ta vie et pour la vie de tes serviteurs.
Let the milk of the goats be enough for thy food, and for the necessities of thy house, and for maintenance for thy handmaids.
