Proverbes 21
1 Tel est le cours de l'eau, tel est le cœur du roi dans la main de Dieu; de quelque côté qu'il veuille l'incliner, c'est là qu'Il le dirige.
As the divisions of waters, so the heart of the king is in the hand of the Lord: whithersoever he will he shall turn it.
2 Tout homme semble juste à ses yeux; mais Dieu dirige les cœurs.
Every way of a man seemeth right to himself: but the Lord weigheth the hearts.
3 Faire des choses justes et dire la vérité est plus agréable au Seigneur que le sang des victimes.
To do mercy and judgment, pleaseth the Lord more than victims.
4 Le cœur de l'audacieux est superbe dans son insolence; la lampe des impies est le péché.
Haughtiness of the eyes is the enlarging of the heart: the lamp of the wicked is sin.
The thoughts of the industrious always bring forth abundance: but every sluggard is always in want.
6 Amasser des trésors avec une langue trompeuse, c'est poursuivre des vanités sur les filets de la mort.
He that gathereth treasures by a lying tongue, is vain and foolish, and shall stumble upon the snares of death.
7 La destruction habitera avec les impies, parce qu'ils ne veulent pas pratiquer la justice.
The robberies of the wicked shall be their downfall, because they would not do judgment.
8 Devant les hommes tortueux Dieu place des voies tortueuses; car Ses œuvres sont droites et pures.
The perverse way of a man is strange: but as for him that is pure, his work is right.
9 Mieux vaut demeurer dans un carrefour en plein air, que dans une grande maison bien crépie avec l'iniquité.
It is better to sit in a corner of the housetop, than with a brawling women, and in a common house.
10 Nul homme ne sera miséricordieux pour l'âme des impies.
The soul of the wicked desireth evil, he will not have pity on his neighbour.
11 La punition de l'intempérant rend l'innocent plus réfléchi; l'homme sage et intelligent en reçoit une leçon.
When a pestilent man is punished, the little one will be wiser: and if he follow the wise, he will receive knowledge.
12 Le juste pénètre le cœur des impies, et les méprise à cause de leur malice.
The just considereth seriously the house of the wicked, that he may withdraw the wicked from evil.
13 Celui qui ferme l'oreille au cri du faible criera lui-même, et nul ne l'écoutera.
He that stoppeth his ear against the cry of the poor, shall also cry himself and shall not be heard.
14 Un don secret détourne les colères; celui qui épargne les présents excite de violents courroux.
A secret present quencheth anger: and a gift in the bosom the greatest wrath.
15 La joie du juste est de faire justice; le saint n'est pas pur aux yeux des méchants.
It is joy to the just to do judgment: and dread to them that work iniquity.
16 L'homme qui s'égare loin des voies de la justice se reposera dans l'assemblée des géants.
A man that shall wander out of the way of doctrine, shall abide in the company of the giants.
17 L'indigent aime la joie; il désire le vin et l'huile en abondance.
He that loveth good cheer, shall be in want: he that loveth wine, and fat things, shall not be rich.
18 Les déréglés sont en abomination aux justes.
The wicked is delivered up for the just: and the unjust for the righteous.
19 Mieux vaut habiter le désert qu'avec une femme bavarde, colère et querelleuse.
It is better to dwell in a wilderness, than with a quarrelsome and passionate woman.
20 Un trésor désirable reposera sur la bouche du sage; mais les insensés le dévorent.
There is a treasure to be desired, and oil in the dwelling of the just: and the foolish man shall spend it.
21 Les voies de la justice et de la miséricorde conduisent à la vie et à la gloire.
He that followeth justice and mercy, shall find life, justice, and glory.
22 Le sage a pris d'assaut les villes fortes; il a démoli les forteresses sur lesquelles comptaient les impies.
The wise man hath scaled the city of the strong, and hath cast down the strength of the confidence thereof.
23 Celui qui est maître de sa bouche et de sa langue garde son âme de la tribulation.
He that keepeth his mouth and his tongue, keepeth his soul from distress.
24 L'homme audacieux, arrogant et présomptueux peut être appelé un fléau; le vindicatif n'est pas dans la loi.
The proud and the arrogant is called ignorant, who in anger worketh pride.
25 Les désirs tuent le paresseux; car ses mains ne se lèvent pas pour faire quoi que ce soit.
Desires kill the slothful: for his hands have refused to work at all.
26 L'impie, durant tout le jour, a des désirs mauvais; le juste n'est avare ni de compassion ni de miséricorde.
He longeth and desireth all the day: but he that is just, will give, and will not cease.
27 Les sacrifices des impies sont en abomination au Seigneur; car ils les offrent le cœur plein d'iniquité.
The sacrifices of the wicked are abominable, because they are offered of wickedness.
28 Le faux témoin périra; un homme docile parlera avec réserve.
A lying witness shall perish: an obedient man shall speak of victory.
29 L'impie compose effrontément son visage; mais l'homme droit saura bien discerner ses voies.
The wicked man impudently hardeneth his face: but he that is righteous, correcteth his way.
30 Il n'est point de sagesse, point de courage, point de raison chez l'impie.
There is no wisdom, there is no prudence, there is no counsel against the Lord.
31 Le cheval est tout prêt pour le jour du combat; mais le secours vient de Dieu.
The horse is prepared for the day of battle: but the Lord giveth safety.
