1 Et le Seigneur parla à Moïse dans le tabernacle du témoignage, au désert de Sina, le premier du second mois de la seconde année, après la sortie d'Egypte, disant:

And the Lord spoke unto Moses in the wilderness of Sinai, in the tabernacle of the congregation, on the first day of the second month, in the second year after their going out of the land of Egypt, saying,

2 Prenez le nombre de toute la synagogue d'Israël, et comptez-les par familles, par maisons paternelles, par têtes et par leurs noms.

Take ye the sum of all the congregation of the children of Israel, after their families, by the descent from their fathers, by numbering the names, every male according to their polls;

3 Tout mâle de vingt ans et au-dessus, tout Israélite pouvant marcher au combat, comptez-le dans l'armée. Tu feras ce dénombrement avec Aaron.

From twenty years old and upward, all that are able to go forth to war in Israel: these shall ye number according to their armies, thou and Aaron.

4 Faites-vous seconder par les princes des diverses tribus et familles paternelles.

And with you there shall be one man each of every tribe; a man who is the head of his family division.

5 Voici les noms des hommes qui vous assisteront; parmi ceux de Ruben, Elisur, fils de Sédiur;

And these are the names of the men that shall stand with you; of Reuben: Elizur the son of Shedeur.

6 Parmi ceux de Siméon: Salamiel, fils de Surisadaï;

Of Simeon: Shelumiel the son of Zurishaddai.

7 Parmi ceux de Juda: Nahasson, fils d'Aminadab;

Of Judah: Nachshon the son of 'Amminadab.

8 Parmi ceux d'Issachar: Nathanaël, fils de Sogar;

Of Issachar: Nethanel the son of Zuar.

9 Parmi ceux de Zabulon: Eliab, fils de Chaïlon;

Of Zebulun: Eliab the son of Chelon.

10 Parmi ceux de Joseph et d'Ephraïm: Elisama, fils d'Emiud; et parmi ceux de Manassé: Gamaliel, fils de Phadasur;

Of the children of Joseph, of Ephraim: Elishama the son of 'Ammihud; of Menasseh: Gamliel the son of Pedahzur.

11 Parmi ceux de Benjamin: Abidan, fils de Gadéoni;

Of Benjamin: Abidan the son of Gidoni.

12 Parmi ceux de Dan: Achièzer, fils d'Amisadaï;

Of Dan: Achiezer the son of 'Ammishaddai.

13 Parmi ceux d'Aser: Phagéel, fils d'Echran;

Of Asher: Pagiel the son of 'Ochran.

14 Parmi ceux de Gad: Eliasaph, fils de Raguel;

Of Gad: Elyassaph the son of Deuel.

15 Et parmi ceux de Nephthali: Achire, fils d'Enan.

Of Naphtali: Achira the son of 'Enan.

16 Ce sont les plus illustres du peuple, les princes de leurs tribus selon leur origine paternelle, commandants de mille hommes en Israël.

These were the selected of the congregation, the princes of the tribes of their fathers; the heads of the thousands of Israel were they.

17 Moïse et Aaron prirent donc les hommes nominativement désignés.

And Moses and Aaron took these men who are expressed by name:

18 Puis, ils rassemblèrent tout le peuple, le premier jour du second mois de la seconde année, et ils firent le dénombrement; ils prirent les noms de tous les mâles de vingt ans et au-dessus, selon leur naissance, par familles et par têtes,

And all the congregation they assembled together on the first day of the second month, and they were enrolled in the lists of their pedigrees after their families, by the descent from their fathers, by numbering the names, from twenty years old and upward, according to their polls.

19 Comme le Seigneur l'avait prescrit à Moïse; ils firent ce recensement dans le désert de Sina.

As the Lord had commanded Moses, so did he number them in the wilderness of Sinai.

20 Les fils de Ruben, premier-né d'Israël, de vingt ans et au-dessus, tous ceux qui pouvaient aller à l'armée, furent comptés nominativement par familles, par branches, par maisons paternelles et par têtes,

And there were of the children of Reuben the first-born of Israel, by their generations, after their families, by the descent from their fathers, by numbering the names according to their polls, every male from twenty years old and upward, all that were able to go forth to war;

21 Et le recensement de la tribu de Ruben donna quarante-six mille cinq cents hommes.

Those that were numbered of the tribe of Reuben, were forty and six thousand and five hundred.

22 Les fils de Siméon, de vingt ans et au-dessus, tous ceux qui pouvaient aller à l'armée, furent comptés nominativement pat familles, par branches, par maisons paternelles et par têtes,

Of the children of Simeon, by their generations, after their families, by the descent from their fathers, those that were numbered of them, by numbering the names according to their polls, every male from twenty years old and upward, all that were able to go forth to war;

23 Et le recensement de la tribu de Siméon donna cinquante-neuf mille trois cents hommes.

Those that were numbered of the tribe of Simeon, were fifty and nine thousand and three hundred.

24 Les fils de Juda, de vingt ans et au-dessus, tous ceux qui pouvaient aller à l'armée, furent comptés nominativement par familles, par branches, par maisons paternelles, par têtes,

Of the children of Gad, by their generations, after their families, by the descent from their fathers, by numbering the names, from twenty years old and upward, all that were able to go forth to war;

25 Et le recensement de la tribu de Juda donna soixante-quatorze mille six cents hommes.

Those that were numbered of the tribe of Gad, were forty and five thousand six hundred and fifty.

26 Les fils d'Issachar de vingt ans et au-dessus, tous ceux qui pouvaient aller à l'armée, furent compter nominativement par familles, par branches, par maisons paternelles, par têtes,

Of the children of Judah, by their generations, after their families, by the descent from their fathers, by numbering the names, from twenty years old and upward, all that were able to go forth to war;

27 Et le recensement de la tribu d'Issachar donna cinquante-quatre mille quatre cents hommes.

Those that were numbered of the tribe of Judah, were seventy and four thousand and six hundred.

28 Les fils de Zabulon, tous ceux qui pouvaient aller à l'armée, furent comptes nominativement par familles, par branches, par maisons paternelles, par têtes,

Of the children of Issachar, by their generations, after their families, by the descent from their fathers, by numbering the names, from twenty years old and upward, all that were able to go forth to war;

29 Et le recensement de la tribu de Zabulon donna cinquante-sept mille quatre cents hommes.

Those that were numbered of the tribe of Issachar, were fifty and four thousand and four hundred.

30 Les fils de Joseph, fils d'Ephraïm, de vingt ans et au-dessus, tous ceux qui pouvaient aller à l'armée, furent compter nominativement par familles, par branches, par maisons paternelles, par têtes,

Of the children of Zebulun, by their generations, after their families, by the descent from their fathers, by numbering the names, from twenty years old and upward, all that were able to go forth to war;

31 Et le recensement de la tribu d'Ephraïm donna quarante mille cinq cents hommes.

Those that were numbered of the tribe of Zebulun, were fifty and seven thousand and four hundred.

32 Les fils de Manassé, de vingt ans et au-dessus, tous ceux qui pouvaient aller à l'armée, furent comptés nominativement par familles, par branches, par maisons paternelles, par têtes,

Of the children of Joseph, namely, of the children of Ephraim, by their generations, after their families, by the descent from their fathers, by numbering the names, from twenty years old and upward, all that were able to go forth to war.

33 Et le recensement de la tribu de Manassé donna trente-deux mille deux cents hommes.

Those that were numbered of the tribe of Ephraim, were forty thousand and five hundred.

34 Les fils de Benjamin, de vingt ans et au-dessus, tous ceux qui pouvaient aller à l'armée, furent comptés nominativement par familles, par branches, par maisons paternelles, par têtes,

Of the children of Menasseh, by their generations, after their families, by the descent from their fathers, by numbering the names, from twenty years old and upward, all that were able to go forth to war;

35 Et le recensement de la tribu de Benjamin donna trente-cinq mille quatre cents hommes.

Those that were numbered of the tribe of Menasseh, were thirty and two thousand and two hundred.

36 Les fils de Gad, de vingt ans et au-dessus, tous ceux qui pouvaient aller à l'armée, furent comptés nominativement par familles, par branches, par maisons paternelles, par têtes,

Of the children of Benjamin, by their generations, after their families, by the descent from their fathers, by numbering the names, from twenty years old and upward, all that were able to go forth to war;

37 Et le recensement de la tribu de Gad donna quarante-cinq mille six cent cinquante hommes.

Those that were numbered of the tribe of Benjamin, were thirty and five thousand and four hundred.

38 Les fils de Dan, de vingt ans et au-dessus, tous ceux qui pouvaient aller à l'armée, furent comptés nominativement par familles, par branches, par maisons paternelles, par têtes,

Of the children of Dan, by their generations, after their families, by the descent from their fathers, by numbering the names, from twenty years old and upward, all that were able to go forth to war;

39 Et le recensement de la tribu de Dan donna soixante-deux mille sept cents hommes.

Those that were numbered of the tribe of Dan, were sixty and two thousand and seven hundred.

40 Les fils d'Aser, de vingt ans et au-dessus, tous ceux qui pouvaient aller à l'armée, furent comptés nominativement par familles, par branches, par maisons paternelles, par têtes,

Of the children of Asher, by their generations, after their families, by the descent from their fathers, by numbering the names, from twenty years old and upward, all that were able to go forth to war;

41 Et le recensement de la tribu d'Aser donna quarante-un mille cinq cents hommes.

Those that were numbered of the tribe of Asher, were forty and one thousand and five hundred.

42 Les fils de Nephthali, de vingt ans et au-dessus, tous ceux qui pouvaient aller à l'armée, furent comptés nominativement par familles, par branches, par maisons paternelles, par têtes,

Of the children of Naphtali, by their generations, after their families, by the descent from their fathers, by numbering the names, from twenty years old and upward, all that were able to go forth to war;

43 Et le recensement de la tribu de Nephthali donna cinquante-trois mille quatre cents hommes.

Those that were numbered of the tribe of Naphtali, were fifty and three thousand and four hundred.

44 Tel fut le dénombrement que fit Moïse avec Aaron, et les chefs d'Israël au nombre de douze, un homme par tribu, pris dans la tribu de sa maison paternelle.

These are those that were numbered, whom Moses numbered with Aaron, and the princes of Israel, being twelve men; one man each for his family division were they.

45 Et Le recensement total des fils d'Israël, de vingt ans et au-dessus, en état de porter les armes, donna

Thus were all those that were numbered of the children of Israel, by the descent from their fathers, from twenty years old and upward, all that were able to go forth to war in Israel, —

46 Six cent trois mille cinq cent cinquante hommes.

Even all they that were numbered, were six hundred thousand and three thousand and five hundred and fifty.

47 Mais les lévites de la tribu paternelle de Lévi ne furent point recensés parmi les fils d'Israël.

But the Levites, after the tribe of their fathers, were not numbered among them.

48 Car le Seigneur avait parlé à Moïse, disant:

For the Lord had spoken unto Moses, saying,

49 Tu ne recenseras pas la tribu de Lévi, et tu n'en prendras pas le nombre parmi les fils d'Israël.

Only the tribe of Levi shalt thou not number, and their sum shalt thou not take, among the children of Israel;

50 Tu donneras aux lévites le soin du tabernacle du témoignage, de ses ornements et de tout ce qu'il renferme; et ils transporteront le tabernacle avec tous ses ornements; ils exerceront le sacerdoce dans le tabernacle, et ils camperont autour du tabernacle.

But thou shalt appoint the Levites over the tabernacle of the testimony, and over all its vessels, and over all things that belong to it: they shall carry the tabernacle, and all its vessels; and they shall minister unto it; and round about the tabernacle shall they encamp.

51 Lorsqu'il faudra enlever le tabernacle, les Lévites l'enlèveront, et lorsqu'il faudra dresser le tabernacle, ils, le dresseront; que l'homme d'une autre tribu qui s'en approcherait soit mis à mort.

And when the tabernacle is to be carried forward, the Levites shall take it down; and when the tabernacle is to be pitched, the Levites shall set it up: and the stranger that cometh nigh shall be put to death.

52 Lorsque les fils d'Israël camperont en corps d'armée, chacun au rang à lui assigné, selon la branche a laquelle il appartient,

And the children of Israel shall pitch their tents, every man by his own camp, and every man by his own standard, according to their armies.

53 Que les lévites campent en cercle, près du tabernacle du témoignage, et il n'y aura point de péché parmi les fils d'Israël. Les lévites seuls auront la garde du tabernacle du témoignage.

But the Levites shall encamp round shout the tabernacle of the testimony, that there be no wrath upon the congregation of the children of Israel: and the Levites shall keep the charge of the tabernacle of the testimony.

54 Et tout ce que le Seigneur avait prescrit à Moïse et à Aaron, les fils d'Israël le firent.

And the children of Israel did so: all, just as the Lord had commanded Moses, so did they.
