1 Et le Seigneur parla à Moïse et à Aaron, disant:
Then Yahweh said to Moses/me,
2 Prends, parmi les fils de Lévi, le total des fils de Caath, par branches, par maisons paternelles,
“Write down the names of the men who belong to the clans descended from Levi.
3 Depuis vingt-cinq ans et au-dessus jusqu'à cinquante, de tous ceux qui entrent pour le service divin, et pour faire toutes les œuvres du tabernacle du témoignage.
Write the names of the men who are between 30 and 50 years old. These will be men who will work at the Sacred Tent.
4 Voici le ministère des fils de Caath dans le tabernacle du témoignage et le Saint des saints.
“The work of these descendants of Kohath will be [to take care of] the sacred items [that are used when the people worship] at the Sacred Tent.
5 Lorsque Israël lèvera le camp, Aaron et ses fils entreront dans le tabernacle, et ils détendront le voile intérieur, et ils envelopperont l'arche.
When you Israelis move to another location, Aaron and his sons must enter the tent to take down the curtain that separates the Very Holy Place from the other part of the Sacred Tent. They must cover the sacred chest with that curtain.
6 Ils placeront par-dessus une couverture de peaux bleues, et par-dessus encore ils jetteront un voile bleu, puis, ils passeront les leviers;
Then they must cover that with a nice covering made from the skins of goats. Over that they must spread a blue cloth. Then they must insert into the rings on the chest the poles [for carrying it].
7 Et sur la table de proposition, ils étendront une nappe pourpre, sur laquelle ils mettront les plats, les encensoirs, les urnes, les coupes à libations, avec les pains qui sont toujours exposés sur cette table.
“Then they must put a blue cloth over the table on which the priests put the sacred bread. On top of the cloth they must put the bowls [for incense], the pans, the other dishes, the jars for [the wine that will be] offered as a sacrifice, and the sacred bread.
8 Ils jetteront par-dessus une nappe écarlate qu'ils envelopperont d'une couverture de peaux bleues, et ils passeront les leviers.
Over all of this they must spread a scarlet/red cloth. Finally, they must put on top a nice covering made from the skins of goats. Then they must insert into the [rings at the corners of] the tables the poles [for carrying it].
9 Ils prendront ensuite une nappe bleue, et ils en envelopperont le chandelier, les lampes, les pincettes, les burettes et tous les vases à l'huile qui servent à leurs fonctions saintes;
“Then with another blue cloth they must cover the lampstand, the lamps, the lamp snuffers, the trays, and the special jars of [olive] oil [to burn in the lamps].
10 Et ils déposeront le chandelier avec tous ses accessoires dans une couverture de peaux bleues, et ils le placeront sur des brancards.
They must cover the lampstand and all the other items with a nice covering made from the skins of goats. They must place all these things on a frame for carrying them.
11 Sur l'autel d'or, ils étendront une nappe bleue, et par-dessus une couverture de peaux couleur d'hyacinthe; puis ils passeront les leviers.
“Then they must spread another blue cloth over the gold altar [which is used for burning] incense. Over this they must spread a nice covering made from the skins of goats. Then they must insert into [the rings of] that altar the poles for carrying it.
12 Ils prendront tous les vases, tous les instruments liturgiques employés dans le sanctuaire, et ils les déposeront sur une nappe bleue, puis, ils les envelopperont d'une couverture de peaux, et ils les placeront sur des brancards.
“They must take all the other items that are inside the Sacred Tent and wrap them in a blue cloth, cover that with a nice covering made from the skins of goats, and place all that on a frame for carrying it.
13 Ils mettront aussi le couvercle sur l'autel des holocaustes, et ils le couvriront d'une nappe pourpre.
“Then they must remove the ashes from the altar [on which they have burned sacrifices]. Then they must cover the altar with a purple cloth.
14 Et ils y placeront tous les vases employés dans la liturgie, les foyers, les crochets, les coupes, le couvercle, tout l'ameublement de l'autel; ils les envelopperont d'une couverture de peaux bleues, puis, ils passeront les leviers. Et ils prendront une nappe pourpre, et ils en envelopperont le réservoir avec sa base qu'ils poseront dans une couverture de peaux bleues, et ils le mettront sur des brancards.
Then they must spread on top of the cloth all the items used at the altar—the pans [for carrying the hot coals], the meat forks, the shovels, the bowls [for containing the blood to sprinkle on the people], and all the other containers. Then they must spread over all those things a nice covering made from the skins of goats. Then they must insert into [the rings at the sides of] the altar the poles [for carrying it].
15 Et lorsque, aux levers du camp, Aaron et ses fils auront achevé d'envelopper les choses saintes, ainsi que tous les vases sacrés, les fils de Caath entreront dans le tabernacle pour les enlever, et ils ne toucheront pas aux choses saintes, s'ils ne veulent pas mourir; les fils de Caath les transporteront ensuite hors du tabernacle du témoignage.
“Then Aaron and his sons have finished covering all these sacred things, the Israeli people will be ready to move [to a new location]. The descendants of Kohath must come and carry all the sacred things to [the next place] where you Israelis will set up your tents. But the descendants of Kohath must not touch any of these sacred items, because they will [immediately] die [if they touch them]. They are the ones who will carry these things, [but they must not touch them].
16 Eléazar, fils du grand prêtre Aaron, veillera à l'huile du chandelier, à l'encens composé, aux sacrifices quotidiens, et à l'huile de l'onction; il aura l'inspection du tabernacle entier et de tout ce qu'il contient à l'usage des œuvres saintes.
“Aaron’s son Eleazar will have the work of taking care of the [olive] oil for the lamps, the nice-smelling incense, the grain which will be burned on the altar each day, and the [olive] oil for anointing [the priests]. Eleazar is the one who will supervise the work that is done at the Sacred Tent and the men who take care of everything that is in it.”
17 Et le Seigneur parla à Moïse et à Aaron, disant:
“Then Yahweh said to Aaron and Moses/me,
18 Gardez-vous d'exposer à périr, parmi la tribu de Lévi, la famille de Caath.
“When the descendants of Kohath approach the sacred items in the Sacred Tent [to take them to another location], Aaron and his sons must always go in with them and show each of them what work to do and what things to carry. But the descendants of Kohath must not enter the Sacred Tent [at any other time] and look at the things that are in it. If they do that, I will get rid of all the descendants of Kohath.”
19 Faites ce que je vais dire, et ils vivront; ils ne mourront pas lorsqu'ils s'approcheront du Saint des saints: qu'Aaron et ses fils les précèdent et les placent chacun à son brancard.
20 Et qu'ils n'entrent pas de manière à voir soudain les choses saintes, car ils mourraient.
21 Le Seigneur dit aussi à Moïse:
Yahweh also said to Moses/me,
22 Prends le total des fils de Gerson par maisons paternelles, par branches,
“Write down the names of all the men who belong to the clans descended from the Gershon [division of the descendants of Levi].
23 Depuis vingt-cinq ans et au-dessus jusqu'à cinquante, de tous ceux qui entrent dans le tabernacle du témoignage, pour le service divin et pour faire leurs œuvres.
Write the names of the men who are between 30 and 50 years old. They will be men who will also work at the Sacred Tent.
24 Voici le ministère de la famille des fils de Gerson: servir et enlever.
“This is the work that they must do and the things that they must carry [when you move to a new location]:
25 Ils enlèveront les couvertures du tabernacle et le tabernacle du témoignage lui-même, sa première couverture et la couverture bleue d'en haut, avec le voile de l'entrée du tabernacle du témoignage,
They must carry the curtains of the Sacred Tent; they must carry the Sacred Tent and all the things that cover it, including the nice outer covering made from skins of goats, and the curtain which is at the entrance of the Sacred Tent.
26 Et les tentures du parvis qui l'entourent; ils prendront soin aussi de tous les instruments liturgiques se rapportant à leur service.
They must also carry the curtains that form the wall that surrounds the courtyard that surrounds the Sacred Tent and the altar, the curtain that is at the entrance to the courtyard, and the ropes [that fasten the curtains]. They must also do the packing and loading of these things.
27 Le ministère des fils de Gerson, en tous leurs devoirs et en toutes leurs œuvres, s'exercera sous la direction d'Aaron et de ses fils, et tu noteras, en prenant les noms de chacun, toutes les choses qu'ils enlèveront.
Aaron and his sons will supervise the work of all the descendants of Gershom. That work includes carrying those things and doing other work that is necessary for moving them. They must tell each of the descendants of Gershom what things they must carry.
28 Tel est le ministère des fils de Gerson dans le tabernacle du témoignage, et ils l'exerceront sous la direction d'Ithamar, fils d'Aaron.
Those are the tasks that you must give to the men who belong to the clans descended from Gershom. Aaron’s son Ithamar is the one who will supervise their work.
29 Faites le recensement des fils de Mérari, par branches, par maisons paternelles,
Count also the men who belong to the clans descended from Levi’s son Merari.
30 Depuis vingt-cinq ans et au-dessus jusqu'à cinquante, de tous ceux qui entrent dans le tabernacle du témoignage, pour le service de ses œuvres.
Write the names of the men who are between 30 and 50 years old. They will be men who will also work at the Sacred Tent.
31 Et voici leur fonction et leur part de travail dans le tabernacle du témoignage: ils porteront les chapiteaux du tabernacle, ses leviers, ses colonnes et leurs bases, le voile intérieur, avec ses colonnes et leurs bases, ainsi que le voile de la porte du tabernacle,
Their work will be to carry the frames that hold up the tent, the crossbars, the posts [that hold up the curtains], and the bases.
32 Et aussi les colonnes du parvis qui l'entoure, avec leurs bases, les colonnes du voile de la porte du parvis et leurs bases, leurs piquets et cordages, leurs divers accessoires, et tout ce qui leur appartient. Vous noterez, en prenant les noms de chacun, toutes les choses qu'ils enlèveront.
They must also carry the posts for [the curtains that form the walls of] the courtyard and the bases for the posts, the tent pegs, and the ropes [to fasten the curtains]. Tell each man what things he must carry.
33 Tel est le ministère de la famille des fils de Mérari, en toutes leurs œuvres dans le tabernacle du témoignage; ils l'exerceront sous la direction d'Ithamar, fils d'Aaron.
Those are the tasks that the descendants of Merari must do at the Sacred Tent. Aaron’s son Ithamar is the one who will supervise them.”
34 Et Moïse, avec Aaron et les chefs d'Israël, recensa par branches, par maisons paternelles,
So Aaron and Moses/I and the Israeli leaders counted the descendants of Kohath, writing also the names of their clans and family groups.
35 De vingt-cinq ans et au-dessus jusqu'à cinquante, tous les fils de Gaath, qui entraient dans le tabernacle du témoignage, pour les œuvres du service divin.
They/We counted all the men who were between 30 and 50 years old who were able to work at the Sacred Tent.
36 Et leur recensement par branches donna deux mille sept cent cinquante âmes.
The total was 2,750 men.
37 Tel fut, selon l'ordre donné par le Seigneur à Moïse, le recensement fait par Moïse et Aaron, des fils de Caath, qui servaient dans le tabernacle du témoignage.
They were the descendants of Kohath who [were able to] work at the Sacred Tent. Aaron and Moses/I counted them just as Yahweh had commanded Moses/me.
38 Et ils recensèrent par branches, par maisons paternelles,
They/We also counted the descendants of Gershon, writing also the names of their clans and family groups.
39 De vingt-cinq ans et au-dessus jusqu'à cinquante, tous les fils de Gerson, qui entraient, pour le service divin et pour faire leurs œuvres, dans le tabernacle du témoignage.
They/We counted all the men who were between 30 and 50 years old who were able to work at the Sacred Tent.
40 Et leur recensement par branches, par maisons paternelles, donna deux mille six cents âmes.
The total was 2,630 men.
41 Tel fut le recensement fait par Moïse et Aaron, selon l'ordre donné par le Seigneur à Moïse, de tous les fils de Gerson, qui servaient dans le tabernacle du témoignage.
They were the descendants of Gershon who [were able to] work at the Sacred Tent. Aaron and Moses/I counted them as Yahweh had commanded.
42 Ils recensèrent également par branches, par maisons paternelles,
They/We also counted the descendants of Merari, writing also the names of their clans and family groups.
43 De vingt-cinq ans et au-dessus jusqu'à cinquante, tous les fils de Mérari, qui entraient dans le tabernacle du témoignage pour les œuvres du service divin.
They/We counted all the men who were between 30 and 50 years old who were able to work at the Sacred Tent.
44 Et le recensement par branches, par maisons paternelles, donna trois mille deux cents âmes.
The total was 3,200 men.
45 Tel fut le recensement des fils de Mérari, fait par Moïse et Aaron, selon l'ordre donné par le Seigneur a Moïse.
They were the descendants of Merari who [were able to] work. Aaron and Moses/I counted them as Yahweh had commanded Moses/me.
46 Tous les recensés que dénombrèrent Moïse, Aaron et les chefs lévites d'Israël, par branches et par maisons paternelles,
So Aaron and Moses/I and the Israeli leaders counted all the descendants of Levi, writing also the names of their clans and family groups.
47 De vingt-cinq ans et au-dessus jusqu'à cinquante, tous ceux qui entraient dans le tabernacle du témoignage, pour l'œuvre des œuvres, et pour transporter ce qu'il y avait à enlever,
They/We counted all the men who were between 30 and 50 years old. They were ones who [were able to] work at the Sacred Tent and who carried the tent and everything that was connected with it.
48 Tous ces recensés furent au nombre de huit mille cinq cent quatre-vingts.
The total was 8,580 men.
49 On les recensa selon l'ordre donné par le Seigneur à Moïse, homme par homme, en désignant à chacun sa part de labeur, et ce qu'il aurait à emporter; le recensement s'opéra comme le Seigneur l'avait prescrit à Moïse.
They/We completed the counting [of all the descendants of Levi], as Yahweh had commanded Moses/me. And they/we told each man what work he was to do and what things he must carry [when they moved to a new location].
