1 Et le Seigneur parla à Moïse, disant:
And Jehovah speaketh unto Moses, saying,
2 Poursuis la vengeance des fils d'Israël contre les Madianites, puis tu seras réuni à ton peuple.
'Execute the vengeance of the sons of Israel against the Midianites — afterwards thou art gathered unto thy people.'
3 Et Moïse parla au peuple, et il lui dit: Armez parmi vous les hommes, et marchez contre Madian, pour lui faire sentir la vengeance du Seigneur.
And Moses speaketh unto the people, saying, 'Be ye armed some of you for the host, and they are against Midian, to put the vengeance of Jehovah on Midian;
4 Envoyez au combat mille hommes par tribu pris dans toutes les tribus.
a thousand for a tribe — a thousand for a tribe, to all the tribes of Israel — ye do send to the host.'
5 Et l'on compta, parmi les myriades d'Israélites, mille hommes par tribu; en tout douze mille hommes armés en guerre.
And there are given out of the thousands of Israel a thousand for a tribe, twelve thousand armed ones of the host;
6 Et Moïse fit partir les mille hommes par tribu formant une armée, avec Phinées, fils d'Eléazar, fils d'Aaron leur prêtre, auquel il donna les vases saints et les trompettes des signaux.
and Moses sendeth them, a thousand for a tribe, to the host, them and Phinehas son of Eleazar the priest, to the host; and the holy vessels, and the trumpets of the shouting, in his hand.
7 Ils en vinrent aux mains avec Madian, comme l'avait prescrit Moïse, et ils tuèrent toute la population mâle.
And they war against Midian, as Jehovah hath commanded Moses, and slay every male;
8 Et ils tuèrent les rois de Madian, au milieu des hommes tués: Evi, Recun, Sur, Hur et Ribé, tous les cinq rois de Madian; dans le carnage, ils firent périr aussi, par le glaive, Balaam, fils de Béor.
and the kings of Midian they have slain, besides their pierced ones, Evi, and Rekem, and Zur, and Hur, and Reba, five kings of Midian; and Balaam son of Beor, they have slain with the sword.
9 Et ils firent captives les femmes de Madian; ils pillèrent leurs bagages, leur bétail, tout ce qu'ils possédaient, et ils abattirent leur puissance,
And the sons of Israel take captive the women of Midian, and their infants; and all their cattle, and all their substance, and all their wealth they have plundered;
10 Et ils livrèrent aux flammes toutes leurs villes et tous leurs villages,
and all their cities, with their habitations, and all their towers, they have burnt with fire.
11 Et ils prirent tout leur butin, tout ce qu'ils avaient enlevé depuis l'homme jusqu'aux bestiaux,
And they take all the spoil, and all the prey, among man and among beast;
12 Et ils conduisirent à Moïse, à Eléazar le prêtre, à tous les fils d'Israël; leurs captures, leurs prises, leur butin, dans le camp d'Araboth de Moab, sur la rive du Jourdain en face de Jéricho.
and they bring in, unto Moses, and unto Eleazar the priest, and unto the company of the sons of Israel, the captives, and the prey, and the spoil, unto the camp, unto the plains of Moab, which [are] by Jordan, [near] Jericho.
13 Moïse sortit du camp à leur rencontre avec Eléazar et tous les princes du peuple.
And Moses, and Eleazar the priest, and all the princes of the company, go out to meet them, unto the outside of the camp,
14 Et Moïse s'irrita contre les chefs de l'armée, chefs de mille hommes et centeniers revenant du combat;
and Moses is wroth against the inspectors of the force, chiefs of the thousands, and chiefs of the hundreds, who are coming in from the host of the battle.
15 Et Moïse leur dit: Pourquoi avez-vous pris vivantes toutes les femmes?
And Moses saith unto them, 'Have ye kept alive every female?
16 Ce sont elles qui se donnaient aux fils d'Israël, selon le conseil de Balaam, pour leur faire renier et mépriser la parole du Seigneur, à cause de Phégor; et de là est venue la plaie de la synagogue du Seigneur.
lo, they — they have been to the sons of Israel, through the word of Balaam, to cause a trespass against Jehovah in the matter of Peor, and the plague is in the company of Jehovah.
17 Puis donc que vous avez tué tous les hommes, sans en épargner un seul, tuez pareillement toute femme qui a eu commerce avec l'homme.
'And now, slay ye every male among the infants, yea, every woman known of man by the lying of a male ye have slain;
18 N'épargnez que celles qui n'ont point connu l'homme.
and all the infants among the women, who have not known the lying of a male, ye have kept alive for yourselves.
19 Cependant, dressez vos tentes hors du camp, demeurez-y sept jours; quiconque aura transporté ou touché un cadavre, sera purifié le troisième et le septième jour; vous serez purifiés avec votre butin.
'And ye, encamp ye at the outside of the camp seven days — any who hath slain a person, and any who hath come against a pierced one, ye cleanse yourselves on the third day, and on the seventh day — ye and your captives;
20 Et vous purifierez vos vêtements, vos ustensiles de cuir, vos tissus de poil de chèvre, vos vases de bois.
and every garment, and every skin vessel, and every work of goats' [hair], and every wooden vessel, ye yourselves cleanse.'
21 Eléazar aussi dit aux hommes de l'armée revenant du combat: Voici les détails de la loi de purification que le Seigneur a prescrite à Moïse:
And Eleazar the priest saith unto the men of the host who go in to battle, 'This [is] the statute of the law which Jehovah hath commanded Moses:
22 L'or, l'argent, l'airain, le fer, le plomb et l'étain,
only, the gold, and the silver, the brass, the iron, the tin, and the lead,
23 Tout ce qui résiste à la flamme sera purifié par le feu et non par l'eau de la purification; tout ce qui ne va pas au feu sera passé à l'eau.
every thing which may go into fire, ye cause to pass over through fire, and it hath been clean; only, with the water of separation it is cleansed, and all that may not go into fire, ye cause to pass over through water;
24 Vous laverez vos vêtements le septième jour et vous serez purifiés; après cela vous rentrerez dans le camp.
and ye have washed your garments on the seventh day, and have been clean, and afterwards ye come in unto the camp.'
25 Et le Seigneur parla à Moïse, disant:
And Jehovah speaketh unto Moses, saying,
26 Prends le nombre des objets sauvés depuis l'homme jusqu'au bétail, prends-le avec Eléazar le prêtre et les princes des tribus.
'Take up the sum of the prey of the captives, among man and among beast, thou, and Eleazar the priest, and the heads of the fathers of the company;
27 Partagez par moitié le butin entre les hommes qui ont combattu et toute la synagogue.
and thou hast halved the prey between those handling the battle who go out to the host and all the company;
28 Et réservez la part du Seigneur; prenez sur la moitié qui revient aux hommes qui ont combattu une tête sur cinq cents, tant des femmes que des bœufs, brebis, chèvres et ânes.
and thou hast raised a tribute to Jehovah from the men of war, who go out to the host, one body out of five hundred, of man, and of the herd, and of the asses, and of the flock;
29 Et donnez à Eléazar le prêtre les prémices du Seigneur.
from their half ye do take, and thou hast given to Eleazar the priest — the heave-offering of Jehovah.
30 Et sur la moitié, revenant aux fils d'Israël, tu prendras une tête sur cinquante, tant des femmes que des bœufs, brebis, chèvres ou ânes, et tu les donneras aux lévites qui veillent à la garde du tabernacle du témoignage.
'And from the sons of Israel's half thou dost take one possession out of fifty, of man, of the herd, of the asses, and of the flock, of all the cattle, and thou hast given them to the Levites keeping the charge of the tabernacle of Jehovah.'
31 Moïse, aidé d'Eléazar le prêtre, fit ce que le Seigneur avait prescrit à Moïse.
And Moses doth — Eleazar the priest also — as Jehovah hath commanded Moses.
32 Et le nombre exorbitant des têtes de bétail que les hommes de guerre avaient enlevé, s'éleva à six cent soixante-quinze mille brebis ou chèvres;
And the prey, the residue of the spoil which the people of the host have spoiled, is of the flock six hundred thousand, and seventy thousand, and five thousand;
33 Soixante-douze mille bœufs,
and of the herd two and seventy thousand;
34 Et soixante-un mille ânes;
and of asses one and sixty thousand;
35 Et il y eut trente-deux mille âmes humaines, c'est-à-dire femmes n'ayant point connu l'homme.
and of human beings — of the women who have not known the lying of a male — all the persons [are] two and thirty thousand.
36 La part de ceux qui avaient combattu fut d'abord la moitié des brebis ou chèvres: trois cent trente-sept mille cinq cents.
And the half — the portion of those who go out into the host — the number of the flock is three hundred thousand, and thirty thousand, and seven thousand and five hundred.
37 Il y eut pour la part du Seigneur six cent soixante-quinze brebis ou chèvres.
And the tribute to Jehovah of the sheep is six hundred five and seventy;
38 Et il y eut pour les hommes trente-six mille bœufs, et pour la part du Seigneur soixante-douze bœufs.
and the herd [is] six and thirty thousand, and their tribute to Jehovah [is] two and seventy;
39 Et il y eut encore pour les hommes trente mille cinq cents ânes, et pour la part du Seigneur soixante-un ânes;
and the asses [are] thirty thousand and five hundred, and their tribute to Jehovah [is] one and sixty;
40 Et il y eut pour les hommes seize mille âmes humaines, et pour la part du Seigneur trente-deux âmes.
and the human beings [are] sixteen thousand, and their tribute to Jehovah [is] two and thirty persons.
41 Et Moïse, comme le lui avait prescrit le Seigneur, donna à Eléazar le prêtre, la part du Seigneur, les prémices de Dieu,
And Moses giveth the tribute — Jehovah's heave-offering — to Eleazar the priest, as Jehovah hath commanded Moses.
42 Prises sur la moitié revenant à ceux des fils d'Israël qui avaient combattu.
And of the sons of Israel's half, which Moses halved from the men who war —
43 Et la moitié revenant à la synagogue fut de trois cent trente-sept mille cinq cents brebis ou chèvres,
and the company's half is, of the flock three hundred thousand, and thirty thousand, seven thousand and five hundred;
44 Trente-six mille bœufs,
and of the herd six and thirty thousand;
45 Trente mille cinq cents ânes,
and of asses thirty thousand and five hundred;
46 Et seize mille âmes humaines.
and of human beings sixteen thousand —
47 Et, sur la moitié des fils d'Israël, Moïse prit une tête sur cinquante depuis l'homme jusqu'aux bestiaux, et il les donna aux lévites gardiens du tabernacle du Seigneur, comme le Seigneur le lui avait présent.
Moses taketh from the sons of Israel's half the one possession from the fifty, of man and of beast, and giveth them to the Levites keeping the charge of the tabernacle of Jehovah, as Jehovah hath commanded Moses.
48 Et tous les chefs de l'armée, chefs de mille hommes ou centeniers, vinrent trouver Moïse, et ils lui dirent:
And the inspectors whom the thousands of the host hath, (heads of the thousands and heads of the hundreds), draw near unto Moses,
49 Tes serviteurs ont emmené le nombre d'hommes de guerre que tu leur avais confié, et pas un d'eux n'a péri.
and they say unto Moses, 'Thy servants have taken up the sum of the men of war who [are] with us, and not a man of us hath been missed;
50 Et tous ceux de nous qui ont combattu apportent un don au Seigneur: soit un vase d'or, soit un collier, soit un bracelet, soit un anneau, soit une épingle à cheveux; nous consacrons ces joyaux au Seigneur pour nous le rendre propice.
and we bring near Jehovah's offering, each that which he hath found, vessels of gold — chain, and bracelet, seal-ring, [ear] -ring, and bead — to make atonement for ourselves before Jehovah.'
51 Et Moïse et Eléazar le prêtre, prirent de leurs mains cet or et ces joyaux.
And Moses receiveth — Eleazar the priest also — the gold from them, every made vessel,
52 Et ces joyaux d'or pris par les chefs de mille et les centeniers pesaient seize mille sept cent cinquante sicles.
and all the gold of the heave-offering which they have lifted up to Jehovah is sixteen thousand seven hundred and fifty shekels, from heads of the thousands, and from heads of the hundreds;
53 Car chaque homme de guerre avait eu pour soi le butin qu'il avait pris.
(the men of the host have spoiled each for himself);
54 Et Moïse et Eléazar prirent l'or des chefs de mille et des centeniers; et ils portèrent les vases dans le tabernacle du témoignage pour être un mémorial des fils d'Israël devant le Seigneur.
and Moses taketh — Eleazar the priest also — the gold from the heads of the thousands and of the hundreds, and they bring it in unto the tent of meeting — a memorial for the sons of Israel before Jehovah.
