1 Alors, le peuple murmura méchamment contre le Seigneur qui l'entendit, et, transporté de colère, il alluma un feu qui dévora une partie du camp.
When the people became murmurers, it displeased the Lord: and the Lord heard it, therefore his wrath was kindled, and the fire of the Lord burnt among them, and consumed the vtmost parte of the hoste.
2 Aussitôt, le peuple, à grands cris, invoqua Moïse, qui pria le Seigneur, et le feu s'éteignit.
Then the people cryed vnto Moses: and when Moses praied vnto the Lord, the fire was quenched.
3 Et ils nommèrent ce lieu Embrasement, parce que le Seigneur au milieu d'eux l'avait embrasé.
And he called the name of that place Taberah, because the fire of the Lord burnt among them.
4 Ensuite les étrangers mêlés parmi eux furent saisis de concupiscence, et les fils d'Israël aussi s'assirent en pleurant et disant: Qui nous rassasiera de chairs?
And a nomber of people that was amog them, fell a lusting, and turned away, and the children of Israel also wept, and saide, Who shall giue vs flesh to eate?
5 Nous nous souvenons des poissons que nous mangions pour rien en Egypte, et des pastèques, des melons, des poireaux, des oignons et de l'ail.
We remember the fish which we did eat in Egypt for nought, the cucumbers, and the pepons, and the leekes, and the onions, and the garleke.
6 Et maintenant notre âme est toute desséchée, rien devant nos yeux, hormis la manne.
But now our soule is dryed away, we can see nothing but this Man.
7 Or, la manne était comme de la graine de coriandre, son aspect était celui du givre.
(The Man also was as coriander seede, and his colour like the colour of bdelium.
8 Le peuple la recueillait çà et là, puis il la broyait sous la meule, et il la mettait en pâte; enfin on la faisait cuire à la poêle ou on en faisait des gâteaux, qui avaient la saveur de gâteaux à l'huile.
The people went about and gathered it, and ground it in milles, or beat it in morters, and baked it in a cauldron, and made cakes of it, and the taste of it was like vnto the taste of fresh oyle.
9 Et lorsque la rosée du matin descendait sur le camp, la manne tombait avec elle.
And when the dewe fell downe vpon the hoste in the night, the Man fell with it)
10 Or, Moïse entendit les lamentations de leurs familles, chacune devant sa porte. Et le Seigneur fut transporté d'une violente colère; Moïse lui-même jugea que ces pleurs étaient coupables,
Then Moses heard the people weepe throughout their families, euery man in the doore of his tent, and the wrath of the Lord was grieuously kindled: also Moses was grieued.
11 Et il dit au Seigneur: Pourquoi affligez-vous votre serviteur? Pourquoi n'ai-je pas trouvé grâce devant vous, quand vous m'avez exposé aux chocs de ce peuple?
And Moses saide vnto the Lord, Wherefore hast thou vexed thy seruant? and why haue I not found fauour in thy sight, seeing thou hast put the charge of al this people vpon mee?
12 Ai-je donc porté ce peuple tout entier dans mes flancs? Est-ce moi qui l'ai enfanté pour que vous me disiez: Prends ce peuple sur ton sein, comme le nouveau-né que la nourrice allaite, jusqu'à ce qu'il arrive en la contrée promise à ses pères?
Haue I conceiued al this people? or haue I begotte them, that thou shouldest say vnto me, Cary them in thy bosome (as a nurse beareth the sucking childe) vnto the lande, for the which thou swarest vnto their fathers?
13 Où trouver des chairs pour tout ce peuple qui m'invoque en pleurant, et me dit: Donne-nous des chairs et que nous mangions?
Where should I haue flesh to giue vnto al this people? for they weepe vnto me, saying, Giue vs flesh that we may eate.
14 Je ne puis seul porter tout ce peuple; c'est pour moi un trop pesant fardeau.
I am not able to beare al this people alone, for it is too heauie for me.
15 Si vous continuez de me traiter ainsi, tuez-moi, enlevez-moi, si j'ai trouvé grâce devant vous; que je ne voie plus mon affliction.
Therefore if thou deale thus with mee, I pray thee, if I haue founde fauour in thy sight, kill me, that I behold not my miserie.
16 Et le Seigneur dit à Moïse: Rassemble soixante-dix des anciens d'Israël, de ceux qui le sont connus comme anciens du peuple; amène-les avec leurs scribes devant la porte du tabernacle du témoignage, et qu'ils s'y tiennent avec toi.
Then the Lord said vnto Moses, Gather vnto me seuetie men of ye Elders of Israel, whome thou knowest, that they are the Elders of the people, and gouernonrs ouer them, and bring them vnto the Tabernacle of the Congregation, and let them stand there with thee,
17 Et j'y descendrai pour m'entretenir avec toi; je prendrai de l'esprit qui est en toi, et je le répandrai sur eux, et ils porteront avec toi le fardeau du peuple, et tu ne seras pas seul à le soutenir.
And I will come downe, and talke with thee there, and take of the Spirite, which is vpon thee, and put vpon them, and they shall beare the burthen of the people with thee: so thou shalt not beare it alone.
18 Et tu diras au peuple: Purifiez-vous dès l'aurore et vous mangerez des chairs, puisque vous avez pleuré devant le Seigneur, disant: Qui nous rassasiera de chairs? C'est en Egypte qu'il faisait bon pour nous. Le Seigneur vous donnera des chairs à manger; vous mangerez de la chair.
Furthermore thou shalt saye vnto the people, Bee sanctified against to morowe, and yee shall eate flesh: for you haue wept in the eares of the Lord, saying, Who shall giue vs flesh to eate? for we were better in Egypt: therefore the Lord will giue you flesh, and ye shall eate.
19 Vous n'en mangerez pas seulement un jour, deux jours, cinq jours, dix jours, vingt jours;
Ye shall not eat one day nor two daies, nor fiue daies, neither ten daies, nor twentie dayes,
20 Vous en mangerez tout le mois, jusqu'à ce qu'elle vous sorte par les narines, et elle sera pour vous comme un choléra, parce que vous n'avez point eu foi au Seigneur qui est parmi vous, et que vous avez pleuré devant lui, disant: Pourquoi sommes-nous sortis de l'Egypte?
But a whole moneth, vntill it come out at your nostrels, and bee lothesome vnto you, because ye haue contemned the Lord, which is among you, and haue wept before him, saying, Why came we hither out of Egypt?
21 Moïse répondit: Ce peuple parmi lequel je me trouve compte six cent mille hommes à pied, et vous dites, Seigneur: Je leur donnerai à manger, et ils mangeront pendant un mois.
And Moses saide, Six hundreth thousande footemen are there of the people, among whom I am: and thou saiest, I will giue them flesh, that they may eate a moneth long.
22 Quand on égorgerait pour eux bœufs et brebis, en auraient-ils assez? Quand on réunirait tous les poissons de la mer, leur pourraient-ils suffire?
Shall the sheepe and the beeues be slaine for them, to finde them? either shall all the fish of the sea be gathered together for them to suffice them?
23 Le Seigneur dit à Moïse: La main du Seigneur ne suffit-elle point à tout? Tu sauras bientôt si c'est ou non ma parole qui t'arrive.
And the Lord saide vnto Moses, Is the Lordes hand shortened? thou shalt see now whether my word shall come to passe vnto thee, or no.
24 Moïse sortit, et il rapporta au peuple les paroles du Seigneur; il réunit soixante-dix hommes des anciens du peuple, et il les plaça devant le Seigneur.
So Moses went out, and told the people the wordes of the Lord, and gathered seuentie men of the Elders of the people, and set them round about the Tabernacle.
25 Et le Seigneur descendit dans une nuée, d'où il parla à Moïse; il prit de l'esprit qui était en lui, et le répandit sur les soixante-dix anciens, et dès que l'esprit se posa sur eux, ils prophétisèrent, et ils ne se conduisirent plus selon leur bon plaisir.
Then the Lord came downe in a cloude, and spake vnto him, and tooke of the Spirit that was vpon him, and put it vpon the seuentie Ancient men: and when the Spirit rested vpon them, then they prophecied, and did not cease.
26 Or, deux hommes avaient été laissés dans le camp, l'un nommé Eldad et l'autre Modad, et l'esprit se posa aussi sur eux; ils étaient de ceux qu'on avait inscrits, mais ils n'étaient point allés devant le tabernacle; toutefois, ils prophétisèrent dans le camp.
But there remained two of the men in the hoste: the name of the one was Eldad, and the name of the other Medad, and the Spirit rested vpon them, (for they were of them that were written, and went not out vnto the Tabernacle) and they prophecied in the hoste.
27 Aussitôt un jeune homme accourut pour l'apprendre à Moïse. Eldad et Modad, lui dit-il, prophétisent dans le camp.
Then there ranne a yong man, and tolde Moses, and saide, Eldad and Medad doe prophesie in the hoste.
28 Et Josué, fils de Nau, qui se tenait auprès de Moïse, homme excellent, prenant la parole, dit: Moïse, notre maître, empêche-les.
And Ioshua the sonne of Nun the seruant of Moses one of his yong men answered and said, My lord Moses, forbid them.
29 Et Moïse lui dit: Es-tu mon zélateur? Puisse tout le peuple du Seigneur prophétiser, quand le Seigneur répand sur eux son esprit!
But Moses saide vnto him, Enuiest thou for my sake? yea, would God that all the Lordes people were Prophets, and that the Lord woulde put his Spirit vpon them.
30 Et Moïse rentra dans le camp, avec les anciens d'Israël.
And Moses returned into the hoste, he and the Elders of Israel.
31 Alors, un vent s'éleva, excité par le Seigneur, poussant à travers la mer une nuée de cailles qu'il jeta ça et là tout alentour du camp, jusqu'à la distance d'une journée de marche, et elles volaient à deux coudées au-dessus de la terre.
Then there went foorth a winde from the Lord, and brought quailes from the Sea, and let them fall vpon the campe, a dayes iourney on this side, and a dayes iourney on the other side, round about the hoste, and they were about two cubites aboue the earth.
32 Et le peuple, s'étant levé, passa le jour entier, la nuit et tout le jour suivant, à recueillir des cailles; celui qui en eut le moins en ramassa dix mesures, et ils en mirent sécher pour eux tout autour du camp.
Then the people arose, al that day, and all the night, and all the next day, and gathered the quailes: he that gathered the least, gathered ten Homers full, and they spred them abroade for their vse round about the hoste.
33 Mais les chairs étaient encore sous leurs dents; elles n'étaient point consommées, lorsque le Seigneur s'irrita contre le peuple, et le frappa d'une très-grande plaie.
While the flesh was yet betweene their teeth, before it was chewed, euen the wrath of the Lord was kindled against the people, and the Lord smote the people with an exceeding great plague.
34 Et l'on nomma ce lieu Sépulcres de la concupiscence, parce qu'on y ensevelit le peuple qui avait trop désiré.
So the name of the place was called, Kibroth-hattaauah: for there they buried the people that fell a lusting.
35 Des Sépulcres de la concupiscence le peuple partit pour Aseroth, et le peuple s'arrêta en Aseroth.
From Kibroth-hattaauah ye people tooke their iourney to Hazeroth, and abode at Hazeroth.
