1 Et le Seigneur parla à Moïse, disant:

And the Lord spoke unto Moses, saying,

2 Fais deux trompettes d'argent, fais-les au marteau; elles te serviront à convoquer la synagogue et à lever le camp.

Make unto thyself two trumpets of silver, beaten out of one piece shalt thou make them; and they shall serve thee for the calling of the congregation, and for the setting forward of the camps.

3 Lorsque tu les feras sonner, toute la synagogue se rassemblera devant la porte du tabernacle du témoignage.

And when they shall blow with both, all the congregation shall assemble themselves unto thee at the door of the tabernacle of the congregation.

4 Si une seule trompette sonne, les chefs d'Israël seuls viendront auprès de toi.

And if they blow with but one, then shall assemble themselves unto thee the princes, the heads of the thousands of Israel.

5 Si elles font entendre toutes les deux un signal convenu, on enlèvera les tentes qui sont tendues à l'orient.

And when ye blow an alarm, then shall set forward the camps that encamp on the east side.

6 A un second signal, on enlèvera les tentes qui sont tendues au midi; au troisième signal, on enlèvera les tentes qui sont tendues à l'occident; au quatrième signal, on enlèvera les tentes qui sont au nord; chaque enlèvement de tentes aura son signal.

And when ye blow an alarm the second time, then shall set forward the camps that encamp on the south side: an alarm shall they blow for their setting forward.

7 Et pour rassembler la synagogue, on sonnera des deux trompettes; mais sans aucun de ces signaux convenus.

But at the assembling of the assembly, ye shall blow, but ye shall not sound an alarm.

8 Ce sont les prêtres fils d'Aaron qui sonneront des trompettes; ce sera une loi perpétuelle pour vous, en toutes vos générations.

And the sons of Aaron, the priests, shall blow with the trumpets; and they shall be to you for an ordinance for ever throughout your generations.

9 Lorsque vous sortirez de votre terre pour combattre vos ennemis rangés devant vous, vous donnerez les signaux au son des trompettes, et le Seigneur se souviendra de vous, et vous serez sauvés des mains de vos ennemis.

And if ye go to war in your land against the oppressor that oppresseth you, then shall ye blow an alarm with the trumpets; and ye shall be remembered before the Lord your God, and ye shall be saved from your enemies.

10 Dans vos fêtes et jours de réjouissance, ainsi qu'aux nouvelles lunes, on sonnera de la trompette pour vos holocaustes et pour vos hosties pacifiques, et le Seigneur se souviendra de vous: je suis le Seigneur votre Dieu.

And on the day of your gladness, and on your appointed festivals, and on the beginnings of your months, shall ye blow with the trumpets over your burnt-offerings, and over the sacrifices of your peace-offerings; and they shall be to you for a memorial before your God: I am the Lord your God.

11 En la seconde année, au second mois, le vingtième jour de la lune, la nuée monta et s'éloigna du tabernacle du témoignage.

And it came to pass in the second year, in the second month, on the twentieth day of the month, that the cloud was taken up from off the tabernacle of the testimony.

12 Et les fils d'Israël, avec tous leurs bagages, levèrent leur camp du désert de Sina; la nuée s'arrêta sur le désert de Pharan.

And the children of Israel set forward on their journeys from the wilderness of Sinai, and the cloud halted in the wilderness of Paran.

13 La première troupe qui se mit en marche, selon l'ordre du Seigneur transmis par Moïse,

And they set forward for the first time at the order of the Lord by the hand of Moses.

14 Fut celle des fils de Juda, ayant à sa tête Nahasson, fils d'Aminadab.

And the standard of the camp of the children of Judah set forward at the first, according to their armies: and over their host was Nachshon the son of 'Amminadab.

15 A la tête de l'armée de la tribu des fils d'Issachar, était Nathanaël, fils de Sogar,

And over the host of the tribe of the children of Issachar was Nethanel the son of Zuar.

16 Et à la tête de l'armée de la tribu des fils de Zabulon, Eliud, fils de Chaïlon.

And over the host of the tribe of the children of Zebulun was Eliab the son of Chelon.

17 Les fils de Gerson détendirent le tabernacle et partirent, suivis des fils de Mérari, qui transportèrent le tabernacle.

And [in the mean time] the tabernacle was taken down; and then set forward the sons of Gershon and the sons of Merari, the bearers of the tabernacle.

18 Ensuite se mirent en marche les troupes du camp des fils de Ruben, ayant à leur tête Elisur, fils de Sédiur.

Then set forward the standard of the camp of Reuben, according to their armies: and over their host was Elizur the son of Shedeur.

19 A la tête de l'armée de la tribu des fils de Siméon, était Salamiel, fils de Surisadaï,

And over the host of the tribe of the children of Simeon was Shelumiel the son of Zurishaddai.

20 Et à la tête de l'armée de la tribu des fils de Gad, Elisaph, fils de Raguel.

And over the host of the tribe of the children of Gad was Elyassaph the son of Deuel.

21 Les fils de Caath partirent ensuite, emportant les choses saintes pour dresser le tabernacle au lieu de l'arrivée.

And then set forward the Kehathites, the bearers of the sanctuary: and the others set up the tabernacle against they came.

22 Après eux, partirent les troupes du camp d'Epbraïm, ayant à leur tête Elisana, fils d'Emiud.

Then set forward the standard of the camp of the children of Ephraim according to their armies; and over their host was Elishama the son of 'Ammihud.

23 A la tête de l'armée de la tribu des fils de Manassé, était Gamaliel, fils de Phadasur,

And over the host of the tribe of the children of Menasseh was Gamliel the son of Pedahzur.

24 Et à la tête de l'armée de la tribu des fils de Benjamin, était Abidan, fils de Gadéoni.

And over the host of the tribe of the children of Benjamin was Abidan the son of Gidoni.

25 La troupe du camp des fils de Dan partit la dernière, ayant à sa tête Achidzer, fils d'Amisadaï.

Then set forward the standard of the camp of the children of Dan, the rereward of all the camps, according to their hosts: and over their host was Achiezer the son of 'Ammishaddai.

26 A la tête de l'armée de la tribu des fils d'Aser, était Phagéel, fils d'Echran,

And over the host of the tribe of the children of Asher was Pagiel the son of 'Ochran.

27 Et à la tête de l'armée de la tribu des fils de Nephthali, Achire, fils d'Enan.

And over the host of the tribe of the children of Naphtali was Achira the son of 'Enan.

28 Telles étaient les armées des fils d'Israël, qui décampèrent ainsi avec toutes leurs possessions.

In this order were the journeyings of the children of Israel according to their armies, when they set forward.

29 Alors, Moïse dit à Obad, fils du Madianite Raguel, beau-père de Moïse: Nous partons pour le lieu dont le Seigneur a dit: Je vous le donnerai. Viens avec nous, et nous te traiterons bien, car le Seigneur a fait de belles promesses aux fils d'Israël.

And Moses said unto Chobab, the son of Reuel the Midianite, the father-in-law of Moses, We are journeying unto the place of which the Lord hath said, This will I give unto you: come thou with us, and we will do thee good; for the Lord hath spoken [to bring] good upon Israel.

30 Et Obad lui répondit: Je ne partirai point, si ce n'est pour ma terre, afin de rejoindre ma famille.

And he said unto him, I will not go; but to my own land, and to my birthplace will I go.

31 Ne nous abandonne pas, lui repartit Moïse, puisque tu nous as accompagnés dans le désert, et tu seras l'un dé nos anciens.

And he said, Do not, I pray thee, leave us; since thou didst find out the places where we were to encamp in the wilderness, and thou hast been to us instead of eyes.

32 Si tu viens avec nous, tu auras part aux bienfaits que nous attendons du Seigneur, et nous te traiterons bien.

And it shall be, if thou go with us, yea, it shall be, that the same goodness which the Lord may do unto us, will we do unto thee.

33 Après avoir quitté la montagne du Seigneur, ils firent trois journées de marche, et pendant ce voyage de trois jours, l'arche du témoignage les précédait, pour qu'ils reconnussent le lieu où ils devaient s'arrêter.

And they set forward from the mount of the Lord a three days' journey; and the ark of the covenant of the Lord went before them in the three days' journey, to search out for them a resting-place.

34 Dès la pointe du jour, la nuée les couvrait de son ombre pendant qu'ils abandonnaient leur campement de la nuit.

And the cloud of the Lord was over them by day, when they set forward from the camp.

35 Et toutes les fois que l'on enlevait l'arche, Moïse disait: Levez-vous, Seigneur, que vos ennemis soient mis en fuite, et que tous ceux qui vous haïssent soient dispersés.

And it came to pass, when the ark set forward, that Moses said, Rise up, Lord, and let thy enemies be scattered; and let those that hate thee flee before thy face.

36 Toutes les fois que l'on faisait reposer l'arche, il disait: Revenez, Seigneur, auprès des myriades de myriades des fils d'Israël.

And when it rested, he said, Return, O Lord, among thy myriads of the thousands of Israel.
