Nahum 3
1 Ô ville de sang, toute pleine de mensonges et d'iniquités, tes rapines ne s'amoncelleront plus.
Woe to thee, O city of blood, all full of lies and violence: rapine shall not depart from thee.
2 Voilà le bruit des fouets, le bruit des roues ébranlées, des chevaux lancés, des chars frémissants et des cavaliers en marche;
The noise of the whip, and the noise of the rattling of the wheels, and of the neighing horse, and of the running chariot, and of the horsemen coming up,
3 voilà le glaive étincelant, l'armure brillante de la multitude des blessés, et une ruine profonde. Et ses peuples étaient sans nombre, mais ils ont énervé leurs corps dans la multitude de leurs prostitutions.
And of the shining sword, and of the glittering spear, and of a multitude slain, and of a grievous destruction: and there is no end of carcasses, and they shall fall down on their dead bodies.
4 Courtisane belle et gracieuse, reine des enchantements, tu vendais les peuples par tes débauches, et les nations par tes sortilèges.
Because of the multitude of the fornications of the harlot that was beautiful and agreeable, and that made use of witchcraft, that sold nations through her fornications, and families through her witchcrafts.
5 Et voilà que Je M'attaque à toi, dit le Seigneur Dieu tout-puissant; Je dévoilerai tes nudités à tous les yeux, Je montrerai aux nations ta honte, et aux royaumes ton opprobre.
Behold I come against thee, saith the Lord of hosts: and I will discover thy shame to thy face, and will shew thy nakedness to the nations, and thy shame to kingdoms.
6 Et Je ferai retomber sur toi l'abomination que méritent tes impuretés, et Je ferai de toi un exemple.
And I will cast abominations upon thee, and will disgrace thee, and will make an example of thee.
7 Et il arrivera que tout homme, en te voyant, s'éloignera de toi, disant: Malheureuse Ninive, qui se lamentera sur elle? Où chercher pour elle une consolation?
And it shall come to pass that every one that shall see thee, shall flee from thee, and shall say: Ninive is laid waste: who shall bemoan thee? whence shall I seek a comforter for thee?
8 Prépare ta partie, ajuste tes cordes, prépare ta partie pour Ammon, qui demeure au milieu des fleuves; les flots l'entourent; la mer est son empire, et l'eau lui sert de remparts,
Art thou better than the populous Alexandria, that dwelleth among the rivers? waters are round about it: the sea is its riches, the waters are its walls.
9 et l'Éthiopie est sa force, et aussi l'Égypte; et pourtant il n'y aura pas de terme à sa fuite. En vain les Libyens sont ses auxiliaires.
Ethiopia and Egypt were the strength thereof, and there is no end: Africa and the Libyans were thy helpers.
10 Elle-même sera transportée captive, et ses enfants seront écrasés à terre, à l'entrée de toutes les rues, et l'on se partagera au sort toutes les richesses qui faisaient sa gloire; et tous ses grands auront les mains chargées de chaînes.
Yet she also was removed and carried into captivity: her young children were dashed in pieces at the top of every street, and they cast lots upon her nobles, and all her great men were bound in fetters.
11 Et toi, tu seras enivrée, et tu seras méprisée, et tu solliciteras l'appui de tes propres ennemis.
Therefore thou also shalt be made drunk, and shalt be despised: and thou shalt seek help from the enemy.
12 Toutes tes forteresses seront comme des figuiers gardés; si on les secoue, les figues tombent dans la bouche et sont mangées.
All thy strong holds shall be like fig trees with their green figs: if they be shaken, they shall fall into the mouth of the eater.
13 Voilà que ton peuple sera comme un peuple de femmes; les portes de ton pays seront ouvertes à tes ennemis; le feu consumera tes barrières.
Behold thy people in the midst of thee are women: the gates of thy land shall be set wide open to thy enemies, the fire shall devour thy bars.
14 Tire de l'eau pour soutenir un siège; fortifie tes remparts; entre dans l'argile; foule-la aux pieds; mêle-la de lits de paille; sois toi-même plus ferme que la brique.
Draw thee water for the siege, build up thy bulwarks: go into the clay, and tread, work it and make brick.
15 C'est là que la flamme te dévorera, que le glaive te détruira; comme une nuée de sauterelles tu seras engloutie; tu seras appesantie comme de grandes sauterelles.
There shall the fire devour thee: thou shalt perish by the sword, it shall devour thee like the bruchus: assemble together like the bruchus, make thyself many like the locust.
16 Tu as multiplié tes marchandises plus que les étoiles du ciel; la nuée de sauterelles les a attaquées et s'est envolée.
Thou hast multiplied thy merchandises above the stars of heaven: the bruchus hath spread himself and flown away.
17 La multitude étrangère mêlée à toi s'est enfuie comme l'escarbot, ou comme la sauterelle perchée sur la haie un jour de gelée; le soleil s'élève, elle saute dehors, et nul ne sait où elle s'était posée. Malheur à eux!
Thy guards are like the locusts: and thy little ones like the locusts of locusts which swarm on the hedges in the day of cold: the sun arose, and they flew away, and their place was not known where they were.
18 Tes pasteurs se sont assoupis; ton roi assyrien s'est endormi avec tes hommes de guerre; ton peuple s'est enfui sur les montagnes, et nul n'était là pour lui donner asile.
Thy shepherds have slumbered, O king of Assyria, thy princes shall be buried: thy people are hid in the mountains, and there is none to gather them together.
19 Il n'est point de guérison pour tes blessures, ta plaie s'est enflammée; tous ceux qui entendent parler de tes malheurs battent des mains; car contre qui n'as-tu pas constamment tourné ta scélératesse?
Thy destruction is not hidden, thy wound is grievous: all that have heard the fame of thee, have clapped their hands over thee: for upon whom hath not thy wickedness passed continually?
