Lamentations 2
1 Aleph. Comment le Seigneur, dans sa colère, a-t-il obscurci la fille de Sion? Il a précipité du ciel sur la terre la gloire d'Israël; il a oublié l'escabelle de ses pieds.
How hath the Lord darkened the daughter of Zion in his wrath! and hath cast downe from heauen vnto the earth the beautie of Israel, and remembred not his footestoole in the day of his wrath!
2 Bath. Au jour de sa colère, le Seigneur a submergé la gloire d'Israël, et il ne l'a pas épargnée; il a détruit, dans sa colère, toute la beauté de Jacob; il a souillé son roi et ses princes.
The Lord hath destroyed al the habitations of Iaakob, and not spared: he hath throwen downe in his wrath ye strong holds of the daughter of Iudah: he hath cast the downe to ye ground: he hath polluted the kingdome and the princes thereof.
3 Ghimel. Dans sa colère, il a brisé tout le front d'Israël; il a détourné sa main droite, de la face de l'ennemi, et il a allumé dans Jacob comme un feu flamboyant, et il a tout dévoré alentour.
Hee hath cut off in his fierce wrath all the horne of Israel: he hath drawen backe his right hand from before the enemie, and there was kindled in Iaakob like a flame of fire, which deuoured rounde about.
4 Daleth. Il a tendu son arc, comme un ennemi menaçant; il a affermi sa main droite, comme un adversaire; et il a détruit tout ce qui la rendait belle à mes yeux; dans le tabernacle de la fille de Sion, il a répandu sa fureur, comme un fou.
He hath bent his bowe like an enemie: his right hand was stretched vp as an aduersarie, and slewe al that was pleasant to the eye in the tabernacle of the daughter of Zion: he powred out his wrath like fire.
5 Hé. Le Seigneur est devenu comme un ennemi; il a submergé Israël; il a submergé ses édifices; il a renversé ses remparts, et il a multiplié les humiliations pour la ville de Juda.
The Lord was as an enemie: he hath deuoured Israel, and consumed all his palaces: hee hath destroyed his strong holdes, and hath increased in the daughter of Iudah lamentation and mourning.
6 Vav. Et il a jeté çà et là son tabernacle, comme une vigne qu'on arrache; il a détruit ses fêtes. Le Seigneur a oublié ce qu'il avait fait en Sion pour les fêtes et le sabbat; et il a transpercé des grondements de sa colère le roi, le prêtre et le prince.
For hee hath destroyed his Tabernacle, as a garden, hee hath destroyed his Congregation: the Lord hath caused the feastes and Sabbathes to bee forgotten in Zion, and hath despised in the indignation of his wrath the King and the Priest.
7 Zaïn. Le Seigneur a répudié son autel, et il a ébranlé et renversé son sanctuaire; il a brisé, par la main de l'ennemi, les murs de son palais; des étrangers ont crié dans la maison du Seigneur, comme en un jour de fête.
The Lord hath forsaken his altar: he hath abhorred his Sanctuarie: he hath giue into the hand of the enemie the walles of her palaces: they haue made a noyse in the House of the Lord, as in the day of solemnitie.
8 Cheth. Et le Seigneur a résolu d'abattre le rempart de la fille de Sion; il a tendu le cordeau; il n'a point détourné sa main que tout ne fût broyé; et l'avant-mur a pleuré, et le rempart partout à la fois s'est senti défaillir.
The Lord hath determined to destroy the wall of the daughter of Zion: hee stretched out a lyne: hee hath not withdrawen his hande from destroying: therefore hee made the rampart and the wall to lament: they were destroyed together.
9 Teth. Ses portes se sont enfoncées dans le sol; il a détruit et mis en pièces ses verrous; il a banni son roi et ses princes parmi les nations; et ses prophètes n'ont pas eu de vision envoyée par le Seigneur.
Her gates are sunke to the grounde: he hath destroyed and broken her barres: her King and her princes are among the Gentiles: the Lawe is no more, neither can her Prophets receiue any vision from the Lord.
10 Iod. Les vieillards de Sion se sont assis à terre; ils sont demeurés dans le silence; ils ont couvert de cendre leur tête; ils ont ceint des cilices; ils ont fait asseoir à terre les jeunes vierges de Jérusalem.
The Elders of the daughter of Zion sit vpon the grounde, and keepe silence: they haue cast vp dust vpon their heades: they haue girded them selues with sackecloth: the virgines of Ierusalem hang downe their heades to the ground.
11 Caph. Mes yeux se sont éteints dans les larmes, mon cœur est troublé, ma gloire s'est répandue à terre, à cause de l'affliction de la fille de mon peuple dans le temps que le petit enfant, et ceux encore à la mamelle, mouraient dans les rues de la ville.
Mine eyes doe saile with teares: my bowels swell: my liuer is powred vpon the earth, for the destruction of the daughter of my people, because the children and sucklings swoone in the streetes of the citie.
12 Lamed. Ils disaient à leurs mères: Où est le pain, où est le vin? dans le temps que dans les rues de la ville ils tombaient défaillants, comme des blessés à mort, et qu'ils rendaient l'âme sur le sein de leurs mères.
They haue sayd to their mothers, Where is bread and drinke? when they swooned as the wounded in the streetes of the citie, and whe they gaue vp the ghost in their mothers bosome.
13 Mem. Quel témoignage puis-je te rendre? qui puis-je comparer à toi, fille de Jérusalem? Qui te sauvera, qui te consolera, vierge fille de Sion? Le calice de ton affliction s'est agrandi; qui te guérira?
What thing shall I take to witnesse for thee? what thing shall I compare to thee, O daughter Ierusalem? what shall I liken to thee, that I may comfort thee, O virgine daughter Zion? for thy breach is great like ye sea: who can heale thee?
14 Noun. Tes prophètes ont eu pour toi des visions vaines et folles, et ils ne t'ont point découvert ton iniquité, pour empêcher que tu ne sois captive, et ils ont eu pour toi des rêves de mensonge; ils t'ont vue poursuivant tes ennemis.
Thy Prophets haue looked out vayne, and foolish things for thee, and they haue not discouered thine iniquitie, to turne away thy captiuitie, but haue looked out for thee false prophesies, and causes of banishment.
15 Samech. Les passants, sur la voie, ont battu des mains; ils ont sifflé, ils ont secoué la tête sur la fille de Jérusalem. Ils ont dit: Est-ce là cette ville, couronne de joie sur toute la terre?
All that passe by the way, clap their hands at thee: they hisse and wagge their head vpon the daughter Ierusalem, saying, Is this the citie that men call, The perfection of beautie, and the ioye of the whole earth?
16 Aïn. Tous tes ennemis ont ouvert la bouche contre toi; ils ont sifflé et grincé des dents, et ils ont dit: Dévorons-la. Sans doute, voici le jour que nous attendions, nous l'avons trouvé, nous l'avons vu.
All thine enemies haue opened their mouth against thee: they hisse and gnashe the teeth, saying, Let vs deuoure it: certainely this is the day that we looked for: we haue founde and seene it.
17 Phé. Le Seigneur a fait ce qu'il avait résolu; il a accompli sa parole; il a fait les choses qu'il avait commandées depuis les anciens jours; il a tout détruit, il n'a rien épargné, et il a fait de toi la joie de ton ennemi; et il a relevé le front de ton oppresseur.
The Lord hath done that which he had purposed: he hath fulfilled his worde that he had determined of old time: he hath throwen downe, and not spared: hee hath caused thine enemie to reioyce ouer thee, and set vp the horne of thine aduersaries.
18 Tsadé. Leur cœur a crié au Seigneur; remparts de Sion, versez nuit et jour des larmes par torrents; ne te donne pas de relâche; que la prunelle de tes yeux ne soit pas muette.
Their heart cryed vnto the Lord, O wall of the daughter Zion, let teares runne downe like a riuer, day and night: take thee no rest, neither let the apple of thine eye cease.
19 Coph. Lève-toi, réjouis-toi en Dieu; la nuit, pendant la première veille, épanche ton cœur, comme de l'eau, devant la face du Seigneur; élève vers lui les mains pour la vie de tes petits enfants, qui sont défaillants de faim à tous les coins de rue.
Arise, cry in the night: in the beginning of the watches powre out thine heart like water before the face of the Lord: lift vp thine handes towarde him for the life of thy yong children, that faint for hunger in the corners of all the streetes.
20 Resch. Voyez, Seigneur, considérez à quel point vous nous avez vendangés. Des mères peuvent-elles manger le fruit de leurs entrailles? Jamais cuisinier a-t-il apprêté un bourgeon? Peut-on tuer des enfants à la mamelle? Peut-on, dans le sanctuaire, tuer le prêtre et le prophète?
Beholde, O Lord, and consider to whome thou hast done thus: shall the women eate their fruite, and children of a spanne long? shall the Priest and the Prophet be slaine in the Sanctuarie of the Lord?
21 Schin. L'enfant et le vieillard sont gisants dans la rue; mes vierges et mes jeunes hommes ont été emmenés captifs; vous avez tout tué par le glaive et par la faim. Au jour de votre colère, vous avez tout massacré, et vous n'avez rien épargné.
The yong and the olde lie on the ground in the streetes: my virgins and my yong men are fallen by the sworde: thou hast slaine them in the day of thy wrath: thou hast killed and not spared.
22 Thav. Le Seigneur a signalé un jour de fête pour tous mes ennemis d'alentour, le jour de sa colère; nul n'a été sauvé ni épargné, et c'est moi- même qui ai fortifié et multiplié tous mes ennemis.
Thou hast called as in a solemne daye my terrours rounde about, so that in the day of the Lordes wrath none escaped nor remained: those that I haue nourished and brought vp, hath mine enemie consumed.
