Juges 6
1 Les fils d'Israël firent encore le mal devant le Seigneur, et le Seigneur les livra aux mains de Madian, pendant sept années.
Forsothe the sones of Israel diden yuel in the `siyt of the Lord, and he bitook hem in the hond of Madian seuene yeer.
2 Et la main de Madian prévalut sur Israël; et les fils d'Israël, à l'aspect de Madian, se firent des cachettes dans les montagnes; ils se firent des grottes et des murs de défense dans les rochers.
And thei weren oppressid of hem greetly; and `thei maden dichis, and dennes to hem silf in hillis, and strongeste places to fiyte ayen.
3 Quand les fils d'Israël avaient semé, Madian montait avec Amalec; les fils de l'Orient marchaient dans leurs rangs, et ils campaient chez eux,
And whanne Israel hadde sowe, Madian stiede, and Amalech, and othere of the `naciouns of the eest;
4 Et ils détruisaient leurs fruits jusqu'aux portes de Gaza, et ils ne laissèrent rien de ce qui sert à la vie en la terre d'Israël, et ils n'épargnaient ni bœuf ni âne parmi les troupeaux,
and thei settiden tentis at the sones of Israel, and wastiden alle thingis `as tho weren in eerbis, ethir grene corn, `til to the entryng of Gaza, and outirli thei leften not in Israel ony thing perteynynge to lijf, not scheep, not oxun, not assis.
5 Parce qu'ils montaient avec tous leurs biens et avec leurs tentes, nombreux comme des sauterelles lorsqu'elles foisonnent; leur multitude et celle de leurs chameaux étaient innombrables; ils dominaient sur la terre d'Israël, et ils la dévastaient.
For thei and alle her flockis camen with her tabernaclis, and at the licnesse of locustus thei filliden alle thingis, and a multitude of men and of camels was with out noumbre, and wastiden what euer thing thei touchiden.
6 Israël était tout appauvri devant la face de Madian. Et les fils d'Israël crièrent au Seigneur,
And Israel was `maad low greetli in the siyt of Madian.
7 Et il advint ensuite que
And Israel criede to the Lord, `and axyde help ayens Madianytis; and he sente to hem a man,
8 Et le Seigneur envoya un prophète aux fils d'Israël, et l'homme leur dit: Voici ce que dit le Seigneur Dieu d'Israël: Je suis Celui qui vous ai tirés de la terre d'Egypte, qui vous ai fait sortir de votre maison de servitude.
a profete, and he spak, The Lord God of Israel seith these thingis, Y made you to stie fro Egipt, and Y ledde you out of the hows of seruage,
9 Je vous ai arrachés des mains de l'Egyptien et de tous ceux qui vous opprimaient; j'ai banni ceux-ci de devant votre face, et je vous ai donné leur territoire.
and Y delyueride you fro the hond of Egipcians, and of alle enemyes that turmentiden you; and Y castide hem out at youre entryng, and Y yaf to you `the lond of hem;
10 Et je vous ai dit: Je suis le Seigneur votre Dieu; n'ayez point crainte des dieux des Amorrhéens, parmi lesquels vous résiderez en leur terre. Mais vous n'avez pas été dociles à ma voix.
and Y seide, Y am `youre Lord God; drede ye not the goddis of Ammorreis, in whose lond ye dwellen; and ye nolden here my vois.
11 Ensuite, un ange du Seigneur vint, et il s'arrêta sous le térébinthe d'Ephratha, en la terre de Joas, fils d'Esdri, comme son fils Gédéon battait du blé dans le pressoir pour échapper aux regards des Madianites.
Forsothe an aungel of the Lord cam, and sat undur an ook, that was in Effra, and perteynede to Joas, fadir of the meinee of Ezri. And whanne Gedeon, `his sone, threischide out, and purgide wheetis in a pressour,
12 L'ange du Seigneur lui apparut, et il lui dit: Le Seigneur est avec toi, fort parmi les plus vaillants.
that he schulde fle Madian, an aungel of the Lord apperide to hym, and seide, The Lord be with thee, thou strongeste of men.
13 Et Gédéon dit: Je vous prie, mon Seigneur; si le Seigneur est avec nous, pourquoi ces maux nous sont-ils venus? Et où sont tous ces miracles que nous ont racontés nos pères, disant: N'est-ce point le Seigneur qui nous a fait sortir de l'Egypte? Maintenant, il nous a renversés, il nous a livrés aux mains de Madian.
And Gedeon seide to hym, My lord, Y biseche, if the Lord is with vs, whi therfor han alle these yuels take vs? Where ben the merueils of hym, whiche oure fadris telden, and seiden, The Lord ledde vs out of Egipt? `Now forsothe he hath forsake vs, and hath bitake vs in the hond of Madian.
14 L'ange du Seigneur le regarda, et lui dit: Marche en ta force, et tu délivreras Israël des mains de Madian. Voilà que pour cela je t'envoie.
And the Lord bihelde to hym, and seide, Go thou in this strengthe of thee, and thou schalt delyuere Israel fro the hond of Madian; wite thou, that Y sente thee.
15 Et Gédéon lui dit: Je vous prie, mon Seigneur, et comment sauverai-je Israël? Voilà que mes mille hommes sont sans force dans Manassé, et je suis le moindre de la maison de mon père.
Which Gedeon answeride, and seide, My lord, Y biseche, in what thing schal Y delyuere Israel? Lo! my meynee is the loweste in Manasses, and Y am the leeste in the hows of my fadir.
16 L'ange reprit: Le Seigneur sera avec toi, et tu vaincras Madian comme un seul homme.
And the Lord seide to hym, Y schal be with thee, and thou schalt smyte Madian as o man.
17 Et Gédéon lui dit: Si j'ai trouvé miséricorde à vos yeux, et si vous accomplissez aujourd'hui par moi tout ce que vous m'avez promis,
And Gedeon seide, If Y haue foundun grace bifor thee, yyue to me a signe, that thou, that spekist to me, art sente of Goddis part;
18 Ne vous éloignez pas d'ici que je n'y revienne; j'apporterai une victime, et je la sacrifierai devant vous. Et l'ange répondit: Je vais rester jusqu'à ton retour.
go thou not `awei fro hennus, til Y turne ayen to thee, and brynge sacrifice, and offre to thee. Whiche answeride, Y schal abide thi comyng.
19 Gédéon rentra donc; il prépara un chevreau, et des pains sans levain d'une mesure de farine (éphi); il mit les chairs sur une corbeille, il versa le jus dans un vase; il porta tout cela à l'ange sous le térébinthe, et il s'approcha de lui.
And so Gedeon entride, and sethide a kide, and took therf looues of a buyschel of mell, and fleischis in a panyere; and he sente the broth of fleischis in a pot, and bar alle thingis vndur an ook, and offride to hym.
20 Et l'ange de Dieu lui dit: Prends les chairs et les azymes, dépose-les sur cette pierre, et répands le jus par-dessus; ainsi fit Gédéon.
To whom the aungel of the Lord seide, Take thou the fleischis, and therf looues, and putte on that stoon, and schede the broth aboue. And whanne he hadde do so,
21 Et l'ange du Seigneur étendit le bout de la baguette qu'il tenait à la main; il toucha les chairs et les azymes, et il s'éleva de la pierre une flamme qui dévora les chairs et les azymes; et l'ange du Seigneur disparut à ses yeux.
the aungel of the Lord helde forth the `ende of the yerde which he helde in the hond, and he touchide the fleischis, and the therf looues; and fier stiede fro the stoon, and wastide the fleischis, and therf looues. Forsothe the aungel of the Lord vanyschide fro hise iyen.
22 Gédéon vit ainsi que c'était un ange du Seigneur, et il dit: Hélas! hélas! Seigneur, mon Seigneur, j'ai vu face à face un ange du Seigneur.
And Gedeon siy that he was `an aungel of the Lord, and seide, Lord God, alas to me, for Y siy the aungel of the Lord face to face.
23 Et le Seigneur lui dit: La paix soit avec toi; n'aie point crainte, tu ne mourras point.
And the Lord seide to hym, Pees be with thee; drede thou not, thou schalt not die.
24 Gédéon éleva en ce lieu un autel au Seigneur, et il le nomma la Paix du Seigneur, comme on le nomme de nos jours, car il subsiste encore en Ephratha, ville du père Esdri.
Therfor Gedeon bildide there an auter to the Lord, and he clepide it the Pees of the Lord, `til in to present dai. And whanne he was yit in Effra, which is of the meynee of Ezri, the Lord seide to hym in that nyyt,
25 Cette nuit même il advint que le Seigneur dit à Gédéon: Prends le taureau de ton père, avec une seconde tête de sept ans; puis tu renverseras l'autel de Baal appartenant à ton père, et tu détruiras le bois sacré qui est tout auprès;
Take thou `the bole of thy fadir, and anothir bole of seuene yeer, and thou schalt distrie the auter of Baal, which is thi fadris, and kitte thou doun the wode, which is aboute the auter;
26 Cela fait, tu élèveras un autel au Seigneur ton Dieu sur la cime de ce mont Maozi, en signe de résistance; tu prendras la seconde tête de bétail, et tu l'offriras comme holocauste, en la brûlant avec les arbres du bois sacré que tu auras détruit.
and thou schalt bilde an auter to thi Lord God in the hiynesse of this stoon, on which thou puttidist sacrifice bifore; and thou schalt take the secounde bole, and thou schalt offre brent sacrifice on the heep of trees, whiche thou kittidist doun of the wode.
27 Gédéon prit dix de ses serviteurs, et il fit ce que le Seigneur lui avait dit. Or, comme il craignait, à cause de la maison de son père et des hommes de la ville, de le faire en plein jour, il le fit la nuit.
Therfore Gedeon took ten men of hise seruauntis, and dide as the Lord comaundide to hym. Sotheli Gedeon dredde the hows of his fadir, and the men of that citee, and nolde do bi dai, but fillide alle thingis bi nyyt.
28 Les hommes de la ville se levèrent de grand matin, et voilà que l'autel de Baal était renversé, et le bois sacré situé tout auprès détruit; et ils virent la seconde tête de bétail que Gédéon avait offerte, sur l'autel qu'il avait élevé.
And whanne men of that citee hadde rise eerly, thei sien the auter of Baal distried, and the wode kit doun, and the tothir bole put on the auter, that was bildid thanne.
29 Chacun dit à son voisin: Qui a fait cela? ils s'informèrent, et ils apprirent que c'était Gédéon, fils de Joas.
And thei seiden togidere, Who hath do this? And whanne thei enqueriden the doer of the deed, it was seid, Gedeon, the sone of Joas, dide alle these thingis.
30 Les hommes de la ville dirent alors à Joas: Amène-nous ton fils; qu'il soit mis à mort, parce qu'il a renversé l'autel de Baal et qu'il a détruit le bois sacré situé auprès.
And thei seiden to Joas, Brynge forth thi sone hidur, that he die, for he distriede the auter of Baal, and kittide doun the wode.
31 Et Gédéon, fils de Joas, dit à tous les hommes de la ville, qui s'étaient soulevés contre lui: Allez-vous plaider pour Baal? est-ce vous qui le sauverez? Que celui qui plaidera pour Baal soit mis à mort avant le lever du jour. Si Baal est Dieu, qu'il se venge, puisqu'on a renversé son autel.
To whiche he answeride, Whether ye ben the venieris of Baal, that ye fiyte for hym? he that is aduersarie of hym, die, bifor that the `liyt of the morew dai come; if he is God, venge he hym silf of hym that castide doun his auter.
32 Et il se donna à lui-même ce jour-là le nom de Jérobaal, en disant: Que Baal se venge, puisque son autel a été renversé.
Fro that dai Gedeon was clepid Gerobaal, for Joas hadde seid, Baal take veniaunce of hym that castide doun his auter.
33 En ce temps-là, Madian, Amalec, et les fils de l'Orient, étaient rassembles tous à la fois; ils campaient dans la vallée de Jezraël;
Therfor al Madian, and Amalech, and the puplis of the eest weren gadirid to gidere, and passiden Jordan, and settiden tentis in the valey of Jezrael.
34 Et l'esprit du Seigneur vint en Gédéon; il fit sonner du cor, et sur ses pas Abiézer accourut à son secours.
Forsothe the spirit of the Lord clothide Gedeon; `and he sownede with a clarioun, and clepide to gidere the hows of Abiezer, that it schulde sue hym.
35 Alors, il dépêcha des messagers à tout Manassé, a Azer, à Zabulon et à Nephthali, et il marcha au-devant des hommes de ces tribus.
And he sente messangeris in to al Manasses, and he suede Gedeon; and he sente othere messangeris in to Aser, and Zabulon, and Neptalym, whiche camen to hym.
36 Et Gédéon dit à Dieu: Si votre volonté est de sauver par ma main Israël, comme vous avez dit,
And Gedeon seide to the Lord, If thou makist saaf Israel bi myn hond, as thou hast spoke,
37 Voyez: je dépose dans l'aire cette toison de laine; que la rosée se montre sur la toison seule et qu'il y ait sécheresse sur toute la terre, et je reconnaîtrai votre volonté de sauver par ma main Israël, comme vous avez dit.
Y schal putte this flees of wolle in the corn floor; if dew is in the flees aloone, and drynesse is in al the erthe, Y schal wite, that thou schalt delyuere Israel bi myn hond, as thou hast spoke.
38 Il en fut ainsi. Gédéon se leva de grand matin; il pressa la toison, la rosée coula de la laine, et remplit d'eau un bassin.
And it was don so. And he roos bi nyyt, and whanne the flees was wrongun out, he fillide a pot with deew;
39 Ensuite, Gédéon dit à Dieu: Que votre courroux ne s'enflamme point contre moi, et je parlerai une seule fois encore, je ferai une seule fois encore l'épreuve de la toison: que la sécheresse se montre sur la toison seule, et la rosée sur toute la terre.
and he seide eft to the Lord, Thi strong veniaunce be not wrooth ayens me, if Y asaie, `that is, axe a signe, yit onys, and seke a signe in the flees; Y preye, that the flees aloone be drie, and al the erthe be moist with deew.
40 Dieu fit ainsi en cette nuit même: la sécheresse se montra sur la toison seule, et il y eut de la rosée sur toute la terre.
And the Lord dide in that nyyt, as Gedeon axide; and drynesse was in the flees aloone, and deew was in al the erthe.
