1 Et Samson alla a Gaza, où il vit une femme prostituée, chez laquelle il entra.
Also Sampson yede in to Gazam, and he siy there a womman hoore, and he entride to hir.
2 Des gens l'apprirent aux hommes de Gaza, disant: Samson est venu ici. Et ils l'entourèrent, et ils l'épièrent à la porte de la ville, et ils ne bougèrent de toute la nuit, disant: Quand l'aurore brillera, nous le tuerons.
And whanne Filisteis hadden seyn this, and it was pupplischid at hem, that Sampson entride in to the citee, thei cumpassiden hym, whanne keperis weren set in the yate of the citee; and thei abididen there al nyyt `with silence, that in the morewtid thei schulen kille Sampson goynge out.
3 Samson resta couché jusqu'à minuit, et, s'étant levé au milieu de la nuit, il prit les portes de la ville avec les deux jambages; puis, les soulevant à l'aide du verrou, il les mit sur ses épaules. Alors, il monta au sommet de la montagne qui fait face à Hébron, où il les déposa.

4 Après cela, il aima une femme d'Alsorech, dont le nom était Dalila.

5 Et les chefs des Philistins allèrent trouver cette femme, et ils lui dirent: Trompe-le; découvre en quoi réside sa grande force, et comment nous prévaudrons sur lui; puis, nous l'enchaînerons afin de l'humilier. Et nous te donnerons chacun onze cents sicles d'argent.
And the princes of Filisteis camen to hir, and seiden, Disseyue thou hym, and lerne thou of hym, in what thing he hath so greet strengthe, and how we mowen ouercome hym, and turmente hym boundun; that if thou doist, we schulen yyue to thee ech man a thousynde and an hundrid platis of siluer.
6 Dalila dit donc à Samson: Fais-moi connaître en quoi réside ta grande force, et comment tu pourrais être enchaîné et vaincu.
Therfor Dalida spak to Sampson, Y biseche, seie thou to me, wher ynne is thi gretteste strengthe, and what is that thing, with which thou boundun maist not breke?
7 Samson lui dit: Si l'on m'attachait avec sept cordes humides, nullement altérées, je serais énervé, et je ressemblerais à un autre homme.
To whom Sampson answeride, If Y be boundun with seuene coordis of senewis not yit drye `and yit moiste, Y schal be feble as othere men.
8 Les chefs des Philistins lui apportèrent sept cordes humides, nullement altérées; et, avec ces cordes, elle l'attacha.
And the princis of Filisteis brouyten `to hir seuene coordis, as he hadde seide; with whiche sche boond him,
9 Et ils se tenaient cachés dans sa chambre, et elle lui dit: Voici les Philistins, Samson. Et il rompit les cordes comme on brise une tresse d'étoupes, des qu'on lui fait sentir le feu; et la cause de sa force resta inconnue.
while buyschementis weren hid at hir, and abididen in a closet the ende of the thing. And sche criede to hym, Sampson, Filisteis ben on thee! Which brak the boondis, as if a man brekith a threed of herdis, writhun with spotle, whanne it hath take the odour of fier; and it was not knowun wher ynne his strengthe was.
10 Et Dalila dit à Samson: Voilà que tu m'as trompée en me disant des mensonges. Apprends-moi, maintenant, avec quels liens il faudrait t'enchaîner?
And Dalida seide to hym, Lo! thou hast scorned me, and thou hast spok fals; nameli now schewe thou to me, with what thing thou schuldist be boundun.
11 Et il lui dit: Si l'on me liait de cordes neuves, avec lesquelles on n'ait encore fait aucune œuvre, je serais énervé et je ressemblerais à un autre homme.
To whom he answeride, If Y be boundun with newe coordis, that weren not yit in werk, I schal be feble, and lijk othere men.
12 Et Dalila prit des cordes neuves, et, avec ces cordes, elle l'attacha. Cependant, les chefs sortirent de leur cachette, et elle dit: Voici les Philistins, Samson. Il rompit les cordes autour de ses bras comme de l'étoupe.
With whiche Dalida boond him eft, and criede, Sampson, Filistees ben on thee! the while buyschementis weren maad redi in closet. Which brak `so the boondis as thredis of webbis.
13 Et Dalila dit à Samson: Voilà que tu m'as trompée en me disant des mensonges; apprends-moi avec quels liens il faudrait t'enchaîner. Et il lui répondit: Si tu faisais un tissu des sept tresses de ma tête et d'une chaîne de fil, si tu l'enfonçais dans le mur, en le maintenant par un clou, je serais aussi faible qu'un autre homme.
And Dalida seide eft to hym, Hou long schalt thou disseyue me, and schalt speke fals? Schew thou to me, with what thing thou schalt be boundun. To whom Sampson answeryde, he seide, If thou plattist seuene heeris of myn heed with a strong boond, and fastnest to the erthe a naile boundun a boute with these, Y schal be feble.
14 Dès qu'il fut endormi, Dalila prit les sept tresses de sa tête; elle en fit un tissu avec une chaîne de fil, elle fixa ce tissu dans le mur à l'aide d'un clou, et elle dit: Voici les Philistins, Samson. Soudain, il sortit de son sommeil, et il arracha du mur le clou du tissu, et l'origine de sa force ne fut pas connue
And whanne Dalida hadde do this, sche seide to hym, Sampson, Filisteis ben on thee! And he roos fro sleep, and drow out the nail, with the heeris and strong boond.
15 Et Dalila dit à Samson: Comment dis-tu: Je t'aime, quand ton cœur n'est point avec moi? Tu m'as trois fois trompée, et tu ne m'as point appris en quoi réside ta grande force.
And Dalida seide to hym, Hou seist thou, that thou louest me, sithen thi soule is not with me? Bi thre tymes thou liedist to me, and noldist seie to me, wher ynne is thi moost strengthe.
16 Elle en vint donc à le poursuivre de ses paroles pendant des jours entiers, à le tourmenter, à affaisser son courage, jusqu'à le réduire à l'extrémité.
And whanne sche was diseseful to hym, and cleuyde to hym contynueli bi many daies, and yaf not space to reste, his lijf failide, and was maad wery `til to deeth.
17 Et il lui ouvrit sans réserve son cœur, et il lui dit: Jamais le fer n'a passé sur ma tête, parce que, depuis les entrailles de ma mère, je suis consacré au Seigneur; lors donc qu'on me rasera, ma force s'évanouira; je serai énervé, et je ressemblerai à un autre homme.

18 Dalila vit bien qu'il lui avait ouvert son cœur sans réserve, et elle envoya chercher les chefs des Philistins, disant: Venez, cette fois encore, car il m'a ouvert son cœur sans réserve. Et les chefs des étrangers allèrent auprès d'elle, et ils apportèrent l'argent dans leurs mains.
And sche siy that he knowlechide to hir al his wille, `ether herte; and sche sente to the princes of Filisteis, and comaundide, Stie ye yit onys, for now he openyde his herte to me. Whiche stieden, with the money takun which thei bihiyten.
19 Et Dalila endormit Samson sur ses genoux; puis, elle appela un homme qui rasa les sept tresses de sa tête; et elle fut la première à l'humilier, car sa force s'était évanouie.
And sche made hym slepe on hir knees, and `bowe the heed in hir bosum; and sche clepide a barbour, and schauede seuene heeris of hym; and sche bigan to caste hym awei, and to put fro hir; for anoon the strengthe yede awei fro him.
20 Dalila dit: Voici les Philistins, Samson. Et il s'éveilla, se disant: J'en sortirai comme les autres fois, et je saurai me délivrer; car il ignorait que le Seigneur s'était retiré de lui.
And sche seide, Sampson, Filisteis ben on thee! And he roos fro sleep, and seide to his soule, Y schal go out, as and Y dide bifore, and Y schal schake me fro boondis; and he wiste not, that the Lord hadde goon awei fro hym.
21 Mais les Philistins le saisirent, lui arrachèrent les yeux, et le transportèrent à Gaza, ou ils le mirent en prison avec des entraves d'airain aux pieds; enfin, ils lui firent tourner la meule, dans la maison du geôlier.
And whanne Filisteis hadden take hym, anoon thei diden out hise iyen, and ledden hym boundun with chaynes to Gaza, and `maden hym closid in prisoun to grynde.
22 Et sa chevelure commença à repousser après qu'il eut été rasé.
And now hise heeris bigunnen to growe ayen;
23 Et les chefs des Philistins étaient réunis pour offrir un grand sacrifice à Dagon leur dieu, et pour se réjouir, Dieu a livré, disaient-ils, à nos mains Samson notre ennemi.
and the princes of Filisteis camen togidere to offre grete sacrifices to Dagon, her god, and `to ete, seiynge, Oure god hath bitake oure enemy Sampson in to oure hondis.
24 Et le peuple l'a vu, et il a chanté en l'honneur de son dieu, parce qu'il avait livré à ses mains l'ennemi, celui qui faisait de la patrie un désert, et qui multipliait les morts parmi nous.
And the puple seynge also this thing preiside her god, and seide the same thingis, Our god hath bitake oure aduersarie in to oure hondis, which dide awey oure lond, and killide ful many men.
25 Lorsque leur cœur se fut ainsi réjoui, ils dirent: Faites venir Samson de la geôle, pour qu'il nous serve de jouet. L'on fit donc venir Samson de la maison du geôlier, et il leur servit de jouet; ils le souffletèrent, et ils le placèrent entre les colonnes.
And thei weren glad bi feestis, for thei hadden ete thanne; and thei comaundiden, that Sampson schulde be clepid, and schulde pleie bifor hem; which was led out of prisoun, and pleiede bifor hem; and thei maden hym stonde bitwixe twei pileris.
26 Et Samson dit au jeune homme qui le menait par la main: Fais-moi toucher les colonnes sur lesquelles repose le temple, et je m'y appuierai.
And he seide to the `child gouernynge hise steppis, Suffre thou me, that Y touche the pilers on whiche al the hows stondith, that Y be bowid on tho, and reste a litil.
27 Or, le temple était rempli d'hommes et de femmes; il y avait là tous les chefs des Philistins, et, sur la plate-forme, environ trois mille hommes et femmes, qui regardaient Samson et le jeu qu'on faisait de lui.
Sotheli the hows was ful of men and of wymmen, and the princes of the Filisteis weren there, and aboute thre thousynde of `euer either kynde, biholdynge fro the roof and the soler Sampson pleynge.
28 Et Samson pleura devant le Seigneur, et il dit: Seigneur Adonaï, souvenez-vous de moi, et me rendez encore une fois mes forces, ô mon Dieul qu'une fois au moins je tire vengeance des Philistins, pour mes deux yeux.
And whanne the Lord `was inwardli clepid, he seide, My Lord God, haue mynde on me, and, my God, yelde thou now to me the formere strengthe, that Y venge me of myn enemyes, and that Y resseyue o veniaunce for the los of tweyne iyen.
29 Et Samson saisit les deux colonnes du temple sur lesquelles reposait l'édifice et où il s'était appuyé; il en prit une de la main droite, l'autre de la main gauche;
And he took bothe pilers, on whiche the hows stood, and he helde the oon of tho in the riythond, and the tother in the left hond; and seide,
30 Et Samson dit: Mort à moi et aux Philistins! Puis, il ébranla les colonnes avec force; le temple s'écroula sur les chefs et sur le peuple qu'il contenait. Et Samson en mourant fit périr plus d'hommes qu'il n'en avait tué pendant sa vie.
My lijf die with Filesteis! And whanne the pileris weren schakun togidere strongli, the hows felde on alle the princes, and on the tother multitude, that was there; and he diynge killide many moo, than he quyk hadde slayn bifore.
31 Ses frères et la famille de son père vinrent le prendre. Et ils s'en retournèrent, et ils l'ensevelirent entre Saraa et Esthaol, dans le sépulcre de Manué son père. Or, il avait jugé Israël vingt ans.
