Josué 6
1 Cependant, Jéricho était entourée de murs et fermée; et personne n'en sortait, et personne n'y entrait.
Now Iericho was shut vp, and closed, because of the children of Israel: none might go out nor enter in.
2 Et le Seigneur dit à Josué: Voilà que je livre à tes mains Jéricho, son roi et ses hommes puissants.
And the Lord saide vnto Ioshua, Behold, I haue giuen into thine hand Iericho and the King thereof, and the strong men of warre.
3 Fais-la donc investir par tes gens de guerre.
All ye therefore that be men of warre, shall compasse the citie, in going round about the citie once: thus shall you doe sixe dayes:
And seuen Priests shall beare seuen trumpets of rams hornes before the Arke: and the seuenth day ye shall compasse the citie seuen times, and the Priests shall blow with the trumpets.
5 Et voici ce qui sera: Lorsque vous sonnerez de la trompette, que tout le peuple ensemble jette un cri; à ce cri, les murs de la ville s'écrouleront d'eux-mêmes, et le peuple y entrera, chacun se précipitant droit dans la ville.
And when they make a long blast with the rams horne, and ye heare the sound of the trumpet, al the people shall shoute with a great shoute: then shall the wall of the citie fall downe flat, and the people shall ascend vp, euery man streight before him.
6 Josué, fils de Nau, alla auprès des prêtres, et il leur parla, disant:
Then, Ioshua the sonne of Nun called the Priests and said vnto them, Take vp the Arke of the couenant, and let seuen Priests beare seuen trumpets of rams hornes before the Arke of the Lord.
7 Annoncez au peuple qu'il ait à investir la ville. Que les hommes de guerre, bien armés, marchent devant le Seigneur.
But he said vnto the people, Goe and compasse the citie: and let him that is armed, go forth before the Arke of the Lord.
8 Que sept prêtres, tenant les sept trompettes sacrées, marchent pareillement devant le Seigneur, et qu'ils sonnent fortement, et que l'arche de l'alliance du Seigneur les suive.
And when Ioshua had spoken vnto the people, the seuen Priestes bare the seuen trumpets of rams hornes, and went foorth before the Arke of the Lord, and blew with the trumpets, and the Arke of the couenant of ye Lord followed them.
9 Que les hommes de guerre passent devant, et que derrière eux les prêtres, qui suivront l'arche de l'alliance du Seigneur, sonnent de la trompette.
And the men of armes went before the Priestes, that blewe the trumpets: then the gathering hoste came after the Arke, as they went and blewe the trumpets.
10 Et Josué donna ces ordres au peuple, disant: Ne criez point, que personne n'entende votre voix jusqu'à ce que le Seigneur vous fasse connaître le jour ou il faudra crier: alors, vous jetterez un grand cri.
(Nowe Ioshua had commanded the people, saying, Ye shall nor shout, neither make any noyse with your voyce, neither shall a worde proceede out of your mouth, vntill the day that I say vnto you, Shout, then shall ye shoute)
11 Et l'arche de l'alliance de Dieu, ayant fait le tour de la ville, rentra aussitôt dans le camp, où elle passa la nuit.
So the Arke of the Lord compassed the citie, and went about it once: then they returned into the hoaste, and lodged in the campe.
12 Le second jour, Josué se leva de grand matin, et les prêtres transportèrent l'arche de l'alliance du Seigneur.
And Ioshua rose early in the morning, and the Priestes bare the Arke of the Lord:
13 Et les sept prêtres, ceux qui tenaient les sept trompettes, marchèrent devant elle, devant le Seigneur; après eux sortirent les hommes de guerre, puis tout le reste du peuple, derrière l'arche de l'alliance du Seigneur. Et les prêtres sonnèrent de la trompette. Et le reste du peuple fit le tour de la ville, en la serrant de près;
Also seuen Priests bare seuen trumpets of rams hornes, and went before the Arke of the Lord, and going blewe with the trumpets: and the men of armes went before them, but the gathering hoste came after the Arke of the Lord, as they went and blewe the trumpets.
14 Puis, on rentra de nouveau dans le camp, et l'on fit la même chose pendant six jours.
And the second day they compassed the citie once, and returned into the host: thus they did sixe dayes.
15 Et le septième jour, de grand matin, le peuple se leva, et ce jour-là il fit sept fois le tour de la ville.
And when the seuenth day came, they rose early, euen with the dawning of the day, and compassed the citie after ye same maner seuen times: only that day they compassed the citie seuen times.
16 Enfin, au septième tour, les prêtres sonnèrent de la trompette, et Josué dit aux fils d'Israël: Criez, car le Seigneur vous a livré la ville.
And when the Priests had blowen ye trumpets the seuenth time, Ioshua said vnto ye people, Shoute: for the Lord hath giuen you the citie.
17 Elle sera anathème pour le Seigneur des armées, elle et tout ce qu'elle contient, hormis Rahab la prostituée; épargnez cette femme et tout ce que vous trouverez dans sa maison.
And the citie shalbe an execrable thing, both it, and all that are therein, vnto the Lord: onely Rahab the harlot shall liue, shee, and all that are with her in the house: for shee hid the messengers that we sent.
18 Cependant, gardez-vous soigneusement de toucher à rien de ce qui est anathème; ne vous laissez pas entraîner à rien prendre de ce qui est anathème, de peur que vous n'attiriez l'anathème sur le camp des fils d'Israël, et que vous ne nous fassiez briser.
Notwithstanding, be ye ware of the execrable thing, lest ye make your selues execrable, and in taking of the execrable thing, make also the hoste of Israel execrable, and trouble it.
19 Tout l'argent, tout l'or, l'airain et le fer, seront consacrés au Seigneur; on les portera dans le trésor du Seigneur.
But all siluer, and gold, and vessels of brasse, and yron shalbe consecrate vnto the Lord, and shall come into the Lordes treasury.
20 Alors, les prêtres sonnèrent de la trompette, et des qu'il ouït les trompettes, le peuple tout entier jeta un cri grand et fort, et le mur de l'enceinte s'écroula de toutes parts, et tout le peuple monta dans la ville.
So the people shouted, whe they had blowen trumpets: for when the people had heard the sound of the trumpet, they shouted with a great shoute: and the wall fel downe flat: so the people went vp into the citie, euery man streight before him: and they tooke the citie.
21 Et Josué la frappa d'anathème, elle et tout ce qu'elle renfermait, depuis l'homme jusqu'à la femme, depuis l'enfant jusqu'au vieillard, avec le bétail et les bêtes de somme; tout fut passé au fil de l'épée.
And they vtterly destroyed all that was in the citie, both man and woman, yong, and olde, and oxe, and sheepe, and asse, with the edge of the sword.
22 Cependant, Josué dit aux deux jeunes hommes qu'il avait envoyés à la découverte: Allez à la maison de la femme, faites-l'en sortir, elle et tout ce qui lui appartient.
But Ioshua had said vnto the two men that had spied out the countrey, Go into the harlots house, and bring out thence the woman, and all that she hath, as ye sware to her.
23 Et les deux jeunes hommes, qui avaient été envoyés à la découverte, entrèrent dans la maison de la femme, et ils emmenèrent Rahab, et son père, et sa mère, et ses frères, et toute sa parenté, et tout ce qui lui appartenait, et ils la firent demeurer hors du camp d'Israël.
So the yong men that were spies, went in, and brought out Rahab, and her father, and her mother, and her brethren, and all that shee had: also they brought out all her familie, and put them without the host of Israel.
24 La ville fut consumée par le feu avec tout ce qu'elle renfermait, hormis l'argent, l'or, l'airain et le fer, que l'on transporta dans le trésor du Seigneur.
After they burnt the citie with fire, and all that was therein: onely the siluer and the gold, and the vessels of brasse and yron, they put vnto the treasure of the house of the Lord.
25 Et Josué épargna Rahab la prostituée, avec toute la famille de son père; il les fit demeurer au milieu d'Israël jusqu'à ce jour, parce qu'elle avait caché les jeunes hommes que Josué avait envoyés à la découverte dans Jéricho.
So Ioshua saued Rahab the harlot, and her fathers houshold, and all that shee had; and shee dwelt in Israel euen vnto this day, because shee had hid the messengers, which Ioshua sent to spie out Iericho.
26 Josué ce jour-là, devant le Seigneur, adjura le peuple, disant: Maudit soit l'homme qui rebâtira cette ville; c'est dans la mort de son premier-né qu'il en jettera les fondations, et dans celle du dernier de ses fils qu'il en posera les portes. Ainsi arriva-t-il à Hozan de Béthel: c'est en perdant Abiron, son premier-né, qu'il jeta les fondations de cette ville, et dans la mort du seul fils qui lui restait, qu'il en posa les portes.
And Ioshua sware at that time, saying, Cursed be the man before ye Lord, that riseth vp, and buildeth this citie Iericho: hee shall lay the foundation thereof in his eldest sonne, and in his yongest sonne shall hee set vp the gates of it.
27 Or, le Seigneur était avec Josué, et le nom de Josué remplissait toute la terre.
So the Lord was with Ioshua, and he was famous through all the world.
